Crosby seems like a lock to me. I doubt he's even close. Selke on the other hand, there ought to be no question.

Kinda tough to imagine Calgary only getting that eighth spot... could be bad news...

Anyone have the presence of mind to grab that puck for him?

You think so? First one, seemed like a broken play, puck deflected off a stick right to Keith, who just kinda threw it at the net and Vrbata was there to knock it in on the far side. And then the next one took a crazy bounce off Schneids and in. -

Yeah, what a way to get your 100th. He had everybody thinking he was going far side, forehand, and bang! Five-hole. I feel as though I've seen Pavel undress Khabibulin on a breakaway, like, three or four times. Offense played well, generated a lot of chances (it was goalpost city out there for a while), defense got caught a little flat footed but Dom was spectacular. Number one in the conference? Ho hum. -

Hilarious. Hank says, "I got a great pass from Pavs on the first one, and an even better pass on the second." -

Hasek is playing lights out tonight. This is great stuff. I really liked the save on Lapointe, because he didn't give up on the play. Marty had him dead to rights, but if Hasek doesn't make that last ditch lunge that he's got net anyways. Havlat is a beast out there; he's got speed to spare and has even left Nick in the dust once or twice. So far, though, it's a tight one... -
I'm having a hard time buying this Conspiracy To Discredit Hasek (Or Whatever) based on all this non-evidence... I mean, let's get real here people, the article mentions ONE PLAYER, who is clearly our best at this juncture, and that is Hank. Lidstrom, Cleary, Dom, Homer, Pavel, etc. have all been great but it mentions ONE GUY and that it happens to not be Hasek is no slight against him or any of the others. Everyone knows he's the Dominator and he gets all the credit he deserves for being a bazillion time everything-winner and Stanley Cup winning legendary goaltender. Speaking of which... Let's get real here, too. He's won these awards a gazillion times; it really ought to put to rest any "political" whatsits. If he doesn't win it this year (he won't) it'll be because Martin Brodeur or maybe Roberto Luongo was the better goalie.

In any event, it's all just a load of posturing before the trade season gets into full swing. Prices ought to come down as the deadline approaches; nobody wants their FAs to get away for nothing, and none of their suitors want to be swindled. Things even out...

Red Wings Make Trade DETROIT (AP) - The Red Wings finally got the ball rolling on the 2007 trade deadline this Wednesday when they dealt a first round draft choice, prospect Jakub Kindl and defenseman Andreas Lilja to Detroit for Robert Lang. "It's a big move for us," said GM Ken Holland. "We like Robert's size a lot and I think he'll help our team win some games this year." Lang was surprised he was traded at all, but understands the motivations of his former club. "I thought I was on a good team before, played with some good guys, but I feel really good coming to the Red Wings and having a chance at the Cup." Holland says the price was high, but he thinks the payoff will make it worthwhile. "Sometimes teams are just missing that one little piece that makes them a championship team. We liked Kindl alot, but we couldn't pass up a deal to get Lang from Detroit," Holland said. Also part of the deal, defenseman Andreas Lilja spoke with confusion. "What the hell is going on here? They said I was traded, I got on the bus and it just took me for a lap around the Joe. I'm right back where I started. What's happening?!" "Oh that Andreas," said Holland, "always kidding around. Peace, bro!" The deal was in the works for some time and Lang has already arrived; he will suit up with the team against the Blackhawks for tonight's game. -
<--- We are as we once were.

We are all equally qualified to run the Detroit Red Wings, gentlemen.
-
A rather dreadful slump is what's going on... I had no recourse but to keep him on the bench last night when I had a logjam at LW. A first, mind you!
-
No, he has been. But given that this is basically his first full season in the league, he hasn't looked that bad (and during one stretch actually looked pretty good). I appreciate everything Schneider brings to the team, but at the end of the day he's getting up there, isn't too great defensively, and is taking time away from the next generation.
-
That's true. We can save ourselves some money (and cut back on defensive zone gaffes) by letting Schneider walk this summer and giving that extra time to Kronwall.
-
This is painful to read. You realize that the team he's traded to essentially gets nothing for the very reason you mentioned? What utility does Florida have for a forward who's gone the next season? That's the reason that post of yours was so very stupid.
-
Whether or not he leaves we'll need all the money we can get, methinks. Either we'll be handing Pavel an enormous wad of cash for his playoff brilliance (or, s***, adequacy), or we'll be in the hunt for whomever Buffalo can't afford to keep, etc. Holland might not know s***, but he's smart enough to know how to get money off the books all at once. Which, by the way, puts the kibosh on any Lapointe murmurs. So there!

Piiiiickeeeey!

I sorta half said it, but here's the reason: He was getting a divorce and had fired his agent when the Wings made their offer. He turned it down and tried to get himself sorted out, meanwhile the Wings' refused to put that same offer down when Fedorov was ready to deal, giving him lesser ones from there on out. Presumably, that's why he left for Anaheim.
-
Well, acutally, I take it back. They were 'involved' for a long time but I don't remember reading about marriage until after the fact, but that other part is bunk. He was getting a divorce and had fired his agent when the Wings made their offer.
-
Ha, no, I don't think there was anything secret about his marriage to Kournikova. "I was ******* her before she turned 18" would've been the lamest secret in the tabloids if it was ever in doubt. He was in the process of a divorce with her when the Wings made their offer and he turned it down.

TSN confirms Holland was talking to Pleau, obviously about Guerin and/or Tkachuk. Too pricey for now...
