So let's weigh in here. The match up favors Smith because he's hot as a fire cracker. It favors Oz because he pwns the Stars. But Ozzie is gonna be rusty; still, you know who you're good at and you play like it. We'll call it even for now. I don't really think goaltending will be the focus tonight, anyways. Just good ol' fashioned intuition, you know.
-
I know what you mean, I was sort of being facetious. Smyth's numbers would likely take a bit of a drop if he were on Detroit's roster. As far as the comparison with the Uber Team goes, well, it's tough to say that guys like Fedorov and Shanahan were just "above average." Yes, it's always been a team thing, but the players on that were all so good at goal scoring that only Shanny was in the top 20. This year isn't the case at all; it's not overloaded with scorers, it's looking for some outside of one mega line. Add Smyth to the 2007 Wings and I guarantee you get a much bigger impact than if you were to put him on the 2002 Wings.

Doan Re-Signs: 5 years, $23 million
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Zeta Power 40's topic in General
That's not appreciably more than league minimum. Maltby will (should) be gone, his salary can be used to cover Laraque's with room to spare. I guess the only thing that might scare the Wings off (other than winning the Forsberg sweepstakes) is Davidson's asking price. Blues got some pretty sick value out of trading Doug Weight last season. -
What we don't have is a guy whose goals per game average is top five in the league.

Doan Re-Signs: 5 years, $23 million

So, Bill Guerin, anyone? -
Legend has it there was a man on that fateful day, March 6th, 1836, who died a revolutionary to stall Santa Anna and his men as they finished their siege of the Alamo. This man, already a highly decorated veteran from his time in the Napoleonic Wars, ended his military career early after France's defeat and crossed the ocean to settle in the frontiers of America. He blazed trails in the American west, found himself a pretty lady and settled down on a ranch in modern day San Antonio. Trouble was afoot. As Santa Anna crossed the Rio Grande, intent on dissolving the Texan government, there was a call to arms; what brave men would answer this call in the face of total destruction? Alongside heroes such as Davy Crockett, Tomas Lang left his wife and children to fight for his independence. It didn't take long for Tomas to garner the respect he deserved; recognized as a military man, he quickly found himself in charge of the troops, albeit off the record. After thirteen brutal days of combat, as the Alamo Mission crumbled around him, and all hope was lost, Tomas rallied his troops. They were ready to follow him to their deaths, and so they charged into the enemy lines to give the rest some chance of escape. Torn asunder by Mexican bullet and bayonet, Tomas died knowing he had done the right thing; that he would be remembered. Time, however, spares few, and in all likelihood you have not heard of him. But there is still hope. When our Wings take the ice tonight against those Stars, in the place that he would call home, it is a chance to remember brave Tomas and his last stand, it is a chance to... REMEMBER THE LANGAMO

Boo to capitalism. Wings ought to strap some guns onto the Red Bird One, buzz on over there and take Doan by force. This is how things were done in the old days. And it is how we shall one day return.
-
Doan, Nolan, Laraque... bring 'em on, says me.

This is always my favorite part. "Lose to Philly during the season = playoff exit." wat Uh oh, Some Guy From The Internet returns to tell us how inexcusable and unacceptable this loss is.
-
Wings can do their part by beating them at the Joe on the 23rd. But seriously, they'll probably sign him to a six year deal or something.
-
We'll have to disagree on that one, I guess. After Umberger got that goal, it really looked like it deflated the team. The Flyers were suddenly flying out there and the rout was on. Hasek makes his money making the big stops when it counts; not that it need be said, but Joey is nooo Hasek. And since he is coming back soon, we can rely on him, and carry on as we normally do and win games.
-
It was a soft goal, and at a critical juncture. That one opened the floodgates; it was a huge momentum boost and killed any chance of a comeback. Lidstrom, a rare off game, was caught a bit flat-footed but in the end didn't give him a good shot on goal. That would've been a routine stop for Hasek or Ozzie.

Even Lidstrom, twice! What a loser that guy is. -

Do the Wings want first in the conference?
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Elshupacabra's topic in General
The Wings, like all teams, want to win 98 games every year... They won't, and may not win the division, which is OK, but they're gunning for it just like everyone else. -
Says who? Some Guy On The Internet? Please. They'll be disappointed after this one, and they should be, but this happens every year to every team. You don't win every game you should on paper. Whoopdeedoo.
-
When you're fifty feet out of your net it's the risk you take. Joey gambled, didn't really win because the puck came through anyways, but he rushed the shot so at least it did something. But yeah, when you skate in front of a guy flying down the ice like that, being bowled over comes with the territory. As for the game, it was close until a godawful penalty by Kronwall and a softie by Joey Mac opened the floodgates. Schneider was also pretty lazy on the first shortie when he stopped skating at the blue line, when his help was needed in the crease. But maybe they were just due for an ass kicking. Hasek should be back Wednesday, and everything will be all right.

Which Wings are ‘Untouchable’?

26th! And watch out, Mr. Zetterberg is in Philly tonight. Lord knows how many points he would have if he had the opportunity to play them eight times like Crosby. -
Hasek should be ready to go in Dallas. I know he's all about playing at 100%, but if it were the playoffs they'd probably just give him cortisone and let him be on his way. It may be a chronic thing, but it's still just a minor injury. I'm not sure Oz will ever be back, but he's just having some hard luck right now as opposed to any lingering aches. And frankly, if Hasek goes down in the playoffs, and we have to bring in Oz who's barely played off the bench, I think we've got an equal shot with him as we do with any rental like Cujo: none.

MLive: Forsberg talk heats up, deal "in days"?
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Howe's Bony Elbow's topic in General
If Holland has Forsberg lined up for a reasonable price, he should be prepared to move Lang for a bag of pucks if he has to. Teams are in need of his services, even if they won't be willing to pay much for him. -
I believe "Cram it, Versus!" is the stock answer, actually.

Oh, I see what you did there. Subtle. Here, let's talk about the pros and cons of threadjacking: PROS: Hilarious Internet tough guy shtick. CONS: The death of an otherwise worthwhile topic. To tell you how wrong you are? I guess negative attention is still attention. -
Which Wings are ‘Untouchable’?
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
Watch out Blak, he might go right down to where you live and... hijack another thread. Here's the point where the wheels come off: "This entire thread is retarded. Can anyone honestly say that they would not give up Zetterberg AND Lidstrom for someone like Ovechkin or Crosby?" Up until then, discussion on players and assets the Wings could or should move were being discussed, and none of that involves Hank or Nick in any world we live in. Bringing up Crosby is just stupid semantics whoring bulls*** and wouldn't you know it, the threads in the toilet even prior to my arrival. Textbook threadjack, dude! Please don't kick my ass! -
