    Shanahan seeking a 2-yr deal at $5M/season

After the year he had I'd say he most certainly is. One of the top scoring forwards in the game that will probably be a Selke contender in the future? I'd throw $4M at that. Franchise written aaalllll over him. He'll be due for a big payday ($4M+++) once his badass super-underpaid contract is up in a few years.

    Shanahan seeking a 2-yr deal at $5M/season

I doubt Kenny would have the guts to pull of a sign and trade of Shanny. We're still not sure he has he guts to stay true to his word (not offer him an outrageous contract he didn't earn), nevermind something like a trade...

    Shanahan seeking a 2-yr deal at $5M/season

s***, let him go to St. Louis. I have no problems with that business. For $4M a year they can have: Shanahan-Weight-Guerin Tkachuk-Cajanek-Stempniak as their top 6.

    Thorne/Clement or Emrick/JD

Please don't say nice things about Kenny Alberts. He almost as obnoxious as Mike Emrick. They're both morons in their own special ways, but Thorne has got a great voice and he knows how to use it. Clement is... Clement.

I think you may have called it on this one.

    Shanahan seeking a 2-yr deal at $5M/season

I really hope someone else picks him up. He has done nothing to deserve $4M. You can be the biggest Ken Holland apologist in the world, but you've gotta be out of your mind to justify Shanny at four million a year. And the reason you don't give Ken Holland credit for assembling three Cup winners is because he didn't. Scotty Bowman did it, he assembled our roster before Ken ever became GM.

    Eklund on XM Radio

Bulls***, ahoy! What steaming pile has fallen off the garbage scow SS Eklund today? Montoya to Detroit? Har har, what a load. Lidstrom to Toronto? So false it must be true!

Detroit Pistons (& NBA) Playoff Thread

Well, that first call in the final minute (you know, the only part of a basketball game that really matters) was BS and pretty much sunk the Mavs. Typical stuff, though laughable shooting led by Howard contributed to their demise, of course. In the end, you've got to look at Wade and say, "He was truly better player." He was better than Nowitzki by a country mile, and the rest of the Mavs too. Congrats to the Heat.

Detroit Pistons (& NBA) Playoff Thread

Despite seemingly dominating in the first half, poor shooting towards the end leaves Dallas on the short end of a 49-48 halftime score. Buffing that MVP award in case Wade gets it tonight, I'm sure...

No doubts, Wade was a monster. Double-teaming him would've been pointless, one on one he doesn't even need to drive the basket--he'll knock down a jumper over your head from 20 feet away and there's not a goddamn thing you can do about it. It's sick. On the fouls... my favorite was where Wade went to the line after stumbling because he tried to squeeze between three people and got caught on somebody. I think the calls in the NHL are bad; they've got nothing on this. Same thing for diving. Why do I even watch basketball again?

Detroit Pistons (& NBA) Playoff Thread

We can go ahead and give the Mavs the dubious honor of being the least clutch team in Finals history. Nowitzki misses the free throw to send the game to OT in Game 3. Howard, with a chance to get a 3 point lead with a minute in overtime, and probably the win, misses BOTH free throws. Wade, on the other hand, knocks down the shot to send the game to OT and wins it by hitting 2 freebies. And as far as the battle of the superstars goes... Nowitzki isn't even in the running.

He certainly showed those Mavs a thing or two last night. His five points will forever be remembered as one of the great efforts in Finals history.

    met Danny Cleary today

The Honorable MICHAEL IANNAZZO wishes to put forth the following resolution before the committee: Resolution 1(a) states thus: At no time shall a player of the National Hockey League have their name modified in any such way with the suffix of -ie (-ey) for no good reason. Players like Dan Cleary will be--in all times past, present, or future--known soley as "Dan" Cleary, as opposed to "Danny" Cleary, (further examples: "Dougie" Weight, "Roddie" Brind'Amour, "Scottie" Niedermayer, etc.). Players whose names don't sound embarassing with the suffix may retain it ("Stevie" Yzerman); players whose names actually include the suffix may retain it ("Jamie" Langenbrunner). Commentators, posters, and all others found guilty of this crime shall henceforth and forthwith have their names ammended to include the -ie suffix, and further have their names ammended if it isn't quite embarassing enough (think "Chris"). All in the favor of this resolution, say "aye."

Liv likely to jump the pond, but not Grigorenko

Can I say it? I'm going to say it. I hate Russians.

    Andy Delmore

It's just like you said: depth. They didn't have to pay him anything except your standard AHL money, and if somebody got hurt there he was. Didn't really turn out that they needed him, but I'll be the last guy to argue about aquiring some quality depth players.

    Very uncool, Owen Sound.

The Wings, having a franchise goaltender? I can hardly wait!

Are you really a wings fan?

I think I've missed justs three games this year to prior and neccesary obligations, and that's about as bad as it gets every year so... pretty big.

We cannot teach him. The boy has no patience. Much anger in him...

Wings acquire D Cory Cross from Penguins

Most likely, yeah. But I bet he gets some playing time at some point in the remainder of this season. Whether it's resting guys like Lidstrom or just sitting Woolley to see what Cross can do, he'll get in a few games to get his feet wet while wearing the Winged Wheel.

Wings acquire D Cory Cross from Penguins

Listen, I'm not too happy with dealing a 4th rounder for a nobody, but let me place you in this scenario: Kronwall and Chelios get hurt (GOD FORBID). Who are you going to bring in to get the third line minutes? Rivers? Who's been perfectly horrible this year? Or Cross, who's proven he can be a warm body and leave the ice just as it was when he crawled over the boards.

Wings acquire D Cory Cross from Penguins

And that's only because Mario was hurt during the regular season. They were a completely different team in the playoffs, so even that doesn't count. Still, Calgary is good for an upset if nothing else. I'd rather someone else do the dirty work for us if possible...

    Darcy Tucker

Tucker has decent numbers because Toronto is pathetic, has no depth on wing, so he gets first line PP duty. The number of gimmes I've watched him score on 5-on-3s is astounding.
