Blues' PK was deadlier than the Wings' PP that go round.
-
Good grief these turnovers. And now Halak Halaking.
-
I am, as ever, pleased that Cleary continues his inhuman rampage; but should he be leading a team in goals that features names like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Franzen? Time for the guys that make the most scratch to step up.
-
I don't know what's going on here.
-
Dano is unstoppable. Nice keep by Rafalski.
-
Well, at least the fourth line is doing work tonight.
-
Brilliant save. Many groins would have been torn asunder attempting that maneuver. But between the Hudler and Hank stops and Lidstrom miss, the Wings left a lot of goals off the board there. It'll do them no good to let the Blues hang around. Beat Halak! Because I have a feeling he's done beating himself.
-
Ah Nick! Pulled it hard.
-
Datsyuk fans on a shot? Just as planned.
-
Another weak power play. I wonder what it is about the man advantage that gives these guys trouble.
-
Looks like both Lidstrom and Datsyuk got their sticks on the puck but couldn't get it out of trouble. Oh well.
-
Hahaha, oh my god.
-
Durr Kronwall, what was that?
-
Nicklas Lidstrom is a cyborg sent back in time to express machine dominance over mankind through the medium of hockey. We are all fortunate that he chooses to continue his oppression of humanity while wearing the Winged Wheel.
-
Hudler and Modano have been on the up and up lately, while Mattias Ritola faithfully remains Mattias Ritola. And while the two former players' early season struggles are worthy of criticism, when we step back and look at the big picture a few months from now I think it will be hugely obvious which set of players is more productive.

Interesting bit of scheduling, maybe, but I don't know that you can glean much about the strength of competition faced when the Wings are racking up wins against "quality" Western teams like the Oil or Flames, as opposed to the lowly Caps or Flyers. But as long as we're talking about stats, here is far and away my favorite one at the moment.

I was surprised no one saw the Smyth goal, though. It was well in the net, and stayed in there for a good long while. If the ref wasn't in position to see it the goal judge ought to have signaled. Oh my, that is quite the scenario.
-
Plenty of times. Tough break, but obviously the right thing to do.
-
Fortunately the players picked by the fans seem to have no effect on who actually gets to the game. However, you're confusing the mid-season All-Star Game exhibition with the post-season All-Star First and Second teams picked by the "Professional Hockey Writer's Association" (whoever they are) thanks Google. The latter, which you can see here, is considered the career achievement.

As much as I've ever known anything, I knew that the Lions would get the late TD but miss the two-point conversion. -
11/13 GDT: Avalanche 1 at Red Wings 3

Rolling into the third period up 3-0 will get you 82 Ws in 9 out of 10 seasons. They were toying with them at times through 40. They didn't expend any energy sitting back in the last 20. It wasn't pretty but you can appreciate their economy of motion. -

The Wings have actually managed a higher goals per game than them so far, though only by a 0.03 margin. They've struggled with the Avs the last few seasons, probably not for any real reason, but ought to take advantage of their current predicament and get a couple points. -
Good call. He was the one that made a nice pass to Flip that started the scramble that eventually led to the goal.

11/11 GDT: Oilers 2 at Red Wings 6

Modano's on a five game point streak so I'd say he's doing pretty well. Sure, he missed the penalty shot, because this is Detroit and that's just how we do things here. Great game. Two or three really nifty plays, and he was winning races to pucks and playing with a lot of effort and jump tonight.
