I never said now, i said come playoff time. And i think filppula, and hudler have earned playoff time. Sammy hasnt really done anything special to me. Doesnt play the body, and stays on the perimiter from what ive seen of him latly. Im just saying to me come playoff time, i want players who are going to play playoff style hockey, or elevate there game to be better and to lift the team. If Babs thinks sammy will do this thats fine. hes the coach.

I understand he has 12 goals and stuff compared to langfeilds 0, but im looking at what we need to succed in the playoffs. Do we need a player like Sammy who seems to shoot a simply wrister from where ever he is? Or would ya want some one who will grind the puck and players and put some energy into the team when hes out there. Even kopecky would be better if hes healthy enough to go. Ellis, yes hes in the minors, but he fit in well for being a 4th liner here. brings more to me then Sammy. I just dont think Sammy will put up in the playoffs, where as Ellis, Langfeild or Kopecky woul i think have a better time with that style of hockey. I really dont care how someone plays during the regular season because as we all know the playoffs are a different beast. Yes Sammy has been injured most of the year, but when he was healthy hasnt impressed me. Hudler has had more production with less time. Give Sammys spot to a younger hungry player for the playoffs, who will get there nose dirty. Thats how I see it. I understand he was cut, but goddamn, he ran into the damn guy and his stick, it was a collison/ check, give me a break. If Backes got up and just went to the bench to get fixed real quick, since it wasnt a major cut, everything would have been fine. The penalty was called after it actually happened which i think was stupid. But if it was say ert accidentlly high sticking, or something like that i wouldn tbe bitching, but it was a half accidental collison/check so why call a damn penalty.

Im not saying the refs cost it but im saying were doing pretty good playing with what seems like 4 guys a good majority of the time even though we barely touch or barely commit the offence, where ass the opposing team seems to do whatever. Ya i can be a homer but i mean when ya see a guy being interfered with in clear as day site, me as a fan gets pissed, when say bert gets a penalty for a guy running into him. With the shootout, my question is where did the puck come form when it ended up in the net with hasek. Also how come you saw it after the ref blew it off saying save or no goal. Where as on the cleary shot, that was a lil more obvious it was over or atleast on the line with his movements. To me it should have been a goal.. the way he acted with his movements as the refs were looking at him seem to tell me he knew it was in. Im just saying if ya aloow one which was borderline, you shoudl allow a similar goal.

i have a retro candy striped with howe and a red dats. i really want a hank, hasek, filppula, and maybe a bertuzzi. but theres a ton of other ones i want too.. i wont go into it.. but definatly a probert since hes pne of my fav all time players. and maybe a ovechkin.

teh reason i dismise gretz after the oilers run is because what did he do besides taking the kings to there only finals appearance in 93? nothing much, it seemed his best years were behind him stat wise and if thats what your basing your argument on then he was the best player in the 80s. not of all time to me. there were more dominate players in the 90s, but all he did during the 90s was add up assists. he never showed me somehting special. imnot really a gretz hater i just hate when people look just at stats not his whole career in general.. he did s*** as a oiler.. and maybe a pinch with the kings.. other then that was a shade of himself proving he wasnt great unless he had a prety good team around him. and if your the "great one" im expecting ya to make any team better no matter there skill level. and the only reason he was on top of points is because of the inflated goal scoring of the 80s. howe did it consistantly over 20 some years. in the 90s what did gretz do point wise?? ya i might not have seen him but the highlits i have seen prove to me nothing speical. just a normal bad defenceman form the 80s in front of a bad goalie, and gretz always on a breakaway cause he was "too good" to be in teh defensive zone and get his nose dirty to get the puck.

im not saying tehy lacked talent im saying they carried there teams there as building blocks. and you keep avoidin ghow gretz scored all these points on staked teams that had a body guard and other wingers and center who could finish and set him up. then you look at when mario and stevie were scoring there goals they were doin git on one line teams pretty much. im not looking down on him for it im just saying to me for him to be great, something that shoul dhis commitment to play through injust and still produce and carry a team would help me call him great thats all ill admit i didnt see gretz platy during his "glory" years, but even as he was at the end of the road he was just a normal player to me, only one with a past to him that help bring fans in . but overall he was nothign special. he would have lik ei said before if he was constistant with his scoring numbers, and maybe doing this with lesser talent, much like mario and stevie early in there careers. but we can argue all day bout this.i just feel howe and orr were far superior talents then gretz. ya the stats may or may not support that but from what they did to the game is what im looking at. when one revolutionized a postion (orr) and the other is referred to the hockey community as "mr. hockey", you cant argue there greatness along with sawchuk, and others.
-
ok so your tired hearing about mario and stevie carryign there teams on tehre back... well i mean the tiems they have.. theyve had serious injury. mario had a bad back where he couldnt even lace up his own skates and stevie had the knee problem we all know about that became a major problem in 02. when has gretz doen something similar besides oen round of the playoffs which has a controversy around a missed penalty commited by gretz? im not saying forget about his early stats but im rather saying those numbers are rather inflated compared to late 80s and 90s numbers due to the skil level of the goalies. i understand u think what gretz di was great with the goals etc ,, yet it is but also he had a great cast to set him up and with the ability to finish on there chances. id be more inpressed with grets if he did it on a team with lesser tallent and over a longer tiem period, rather then what 81-88?? howe was consistant for what 20 some years. but its al a matter of opinion. and i dont liek how 99 was retired league wide when a strong case can be made for 4 (orr), 9 (howe, hull, richard), 1 (sawchuck), but thats another argument. all im saying is gretz was nothing without a highly talented team around him. players such and stevie, and mario carried there teams to the glory land from there rookie year.
-
ya Orr only won 2 cups but look at who else was winning cups in teh 70s.. oh that was the great 70's montreal canadiens with bowman as coach. hmm mayb ethats why orr only one 2 cups. grets had a team full of great players atleast on the frst 2 maybe 3 lines, kurri, messier, esa tikkean (sp), anderson, etc. his production dropped off after he left oiler town. and never say those numbers again yet went the other way and pretty much became a passer instead of goal scorer. but i stil lthink orr and howe were better.. bring me better stats then inflated 80s number that padded the rest of gretz career. and im not talking MVPs, harts etc. cause during the 80s they just handed it to him. for instance many thought yzerman shoudl have won one toward the end before he won eventually won it. so bring me proof other then stats why gretz was so "great" he never revolutionized his postion(orr) or dominated it for as long as howe. so those two (howe and orr) are better then gretz yes they both did this toward the end of the 80s when goals were starting to dry up so to say.. gretz did al lhis in teh begining when goalies blew nuts except for a few here and there that were steady and could stop a shot. im not discounting them but they also did it with less talent aroudn them. and both stevie and mario could literally but a team on there back and carry them.. give me a instance where gretz has done that....
-
ok .. he did one thing away from the oilers.. but if he was so "great" i think he could have had a steady carrer with points, yet he had a ton at first an dliek burned out or somethign at the end. he was a pure 80s goal scorer. hull was the 90s goal scorer along wiht jagr. but to me gretz is a media hype that workeed in favor of the NHL. ya his numbers are impressive but i mean probert scored 30 goals and was a all star during the 80s so what does that tell ya about that period. i mean ya he was good but not good (probert).. to me the 80s wwas when forwards prgressed and goalies were stuck in the 20s lol very inflated. i forget where i say it but hulls 86 goals would be the equivalent to over a hundred had he done it the year gretz scored 90..
-
to me id pick Orr. to me gretzky couldnt do much after he left the "stacked" oilers. and from clips ive seen from his oilers days, gretz always seems to be on a break away. Orr atleast seem to change the game more, with revolutionizing the offensive defencemen role. what did gretz revolutionize? personally id pick howe as the best for his endurance, strentgh, stamina, and skills, but orr wins this argument. he carried the bruins alogn with espo and bucyk, but gretz had another scoring line to help take pressure off, along with "body guards". i never say anythign special about gretz. marion and stevie were way better players, but Orr gets my vote

ya .. it seems funny.. the ref in nashville was terrible. but its funny how we havent heard of refs being "penalized" for messign things up liek they were suppose.. atleast what i thought was suppose to happen
-
what happened to refs being reveiwed and fined for ******* up s*** ?? wasnt that something that was suppose to happen in the "new" NHL.. wich for the past week hasnt happened for the wings it seems
-
so pretty much a bs type s*** that weve had to deal with more then usual latly??

Coming into the season with the loses we had during the offseason (Yzerman, Shanny, Mowers lol), i thought we would have a off year. I was a lil skepitcal of my favorite goaltender of all time in Dominik Hasek comign back, with his recent injury problems. But overall i though it was goin to end up a 1st or 2nd place finish in the central. But i thought id make a list and explain who i thought to me was a surprise SURPRISE Jiri Hudler- with his recent surge offensivly has really impressed me. I was one of those who was on the wagon to ship him out at the deadline, but now glad to see him stay and turn things around playing with Lang and Calder. Valtteri Filppula- another decent surprise to me. I figured hed produce and be a decent player this year but not as good as hes latly. For some reason ive been a fan of him since playing NHL 2k7 on my buddies Xbox 360. But i think hell be a great player for us in a year or two and wouldnt mind him putting a lil muscle on but overall a good surpise. Johan Franzen - I think hes was playing great before his injury and been a great find by the scouting staff. has a great shot it seems and grinds when he needs to. Could see him being a good producer this year in the playoffs. Tomas Holmstrom- The great Demolition Man. I figured hed have a good season but never like the one hes been having. As we al know hes kind of in a slump compared to what he was doing with the Hank/Dats/Homer line, but i think that has to do wiht his injury, and Hanks. hopefulyl hell be healthy for the playoffs and be up to hiis old self there. Kyle Calder- Now when i heard of this trade i was just happy to be getting rid of Williams. But damn, what a great move. Kyles fit in better here then any deadline aquistions have in recent past. Plus hes on a role with the Lang/Huds/Calder line and hope it carries over to the post season. Hes added that lil bit of grit and hustle that helps push a team a bit harder, either the opposition or his own. Hope Kenny can lock him up for a few more years at a good price. Dan Cleary- He has been a surprise since the begining when he was on a tear scoring goals to hold the team together while everyone else seemed to be "cold" in the goal scoring area. He was in a slump just before his injury, and was looking like his old self for a game or two. Signed to be more of a character, gritty style player, he showed this year why he was selected in teh first round by Chicago. Hopefulyl he can bounce back for the playoffs and continue to impress the rest of us.

we should be called the detroit red wings (late-bloomers) or somehting liek that for fun.. ya i knwo it was stuipid after i wrote it.. but hudler looks good with lang and calder. i was a fan boy of shipping huds out but glad he wasnt. hope they keep this line going till it goes bone dry in the scoring dept. now with injuries healing should be fun to see who makes the playoff roster and what lines will look like with all these call ups and fill ins playing so great!!!
-
Zetterberg this year has established as a marquee name. hopefulyl next year he can keep healthy and maybe ein a few awards. i say in a year or two people will be forgetting peter forsberg, and instead thinking henrik zetterberg.. all hail the great hank!!!

ya i forgot about cleary i dont know why .. but i thought abou lebda, buti think hes was more of a surprise making the team last year. ya we knew he was a decent d-man, but i think this season is him understanding the pro game more. but thanx for the reminder of cleary

i think expanding right now is not good for the league. they should contract some teams or move them to a better market. teams like phoneix, and nashville need more fans and support and ill be happy to see them leave there old homes for a more hockey crazy towns of quebec, winnipeg, or even just fold. but during the lock out me and my dad got in a argument about expansion and even then i thought what would help the league is to shrink down so the talent pool is better, which in turn creates a better product to watch the sport, you could role 4 lines of great goal scoring and be more of a threat, like in the 80s.. just my two cents
