LOL looks like he's wearing a 6 year old's street hockey gear.

What makes players eligble to be placed on waivers? Is it their age, contract length, years played? I have no idea. Am I correct that most of the baby wings have 2-way contracts and therefore aren't eligble to be placed on waivers? Or am I completely and utterly confused
-
To my recollection I read that, the Wings can't send Ericsson down to the AHL anymore. He's won't clear waivers and some team will claim him like they did Matt Ellis. If that's true, then Ericcson is going to have to make the team. Someone can clarify if they know anything about it.

High sticks, running into sticks, blades, butt-ends whatever--it happens all the time in the game. Its not like he went out to spear Ribeiro with the butt-end of the stick. Being that it was inconclusive whether or not it was deliberate, the league takes into account the players response to the play. Osgood came right out and said he didn't mean it. Osgood does not have a history of hurting players. If anything it was reckless use of the stick on Osgood's part. Reguardless, if Osgoods act was deliberate or not--Ribeiros act was. PLAYERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE A 2 HANDER to the chest. That should go without saying. Deliberate acts are suspendable.

He never said he "hit" Ribeiro. "Even if I did butt-end him, it was an accident," Osgood said. "I was trying to protect our best player, Nick Lidstrom, so he didn't get run." If anything he was sticking his arm out like most goalies do when players are flying around the net.

...and we lived happily ever after. The End. I think that maybe a good way to end this discussion. Bravo. Wings will do just that too...because they play with class. **SIDE BAR** I have to say though, flipping Flip like that was pretty funny in a slap-stick humourous kind of way *no puns intended*. I mean I'm glad he wasn't hurt or anything.

got that right.

And not to mention...thats IF the buttend of Osgood's stick did in fact hit Ribiero in the face--given his history to fake injury. That old clip of him vs. Bruins makes my stomach quiver
-
lol @ all of the above It takes a redneck to know a redneck

Zero-tolerance to deliberate 2 handers to the face upper body...with and without stick breakage. SUSPENDABLE. Osgood's a low key guy, doesn't have a history of starting fights (to my recollection), his back was to the play, he said he didn't mean it--if there was even a butt end to the face (Ribero has a history of faking injury)

What's up with everyone who says that the slash didn't/couldn't/shouldn't have hurt? If Osgood says it hurt...then it hurt. Who is anybody else to say? That shouldn't even be the issue! On the flipside, if a stick that was dilberately swung and broken over top his arm/side whatever (which by the way is not the as a 100mph puck zinging at you) I could see why Osgood reacted the way he did just out of shock alone. Thats not to say players don't overreact. Fact: Osgood's buttend of stick caught Ribero in the face - Not intended. And that's based on Osgood's response, body language and past history, there was not an intent to injure. Maybe reckless use of stick-- but not intended. His back was turned to the play anyways. Fact: Ribero took a 2 hander to Osgood's upper body - INTENDED. My guess is the league will give a 1-game to 2-game suspension with fine. Zero-tolerance on that stuff. Plus, that will help cool any brawl action next game. League is trying to cut down on all the bad press its been getting regarding the sticks to the face.

hmm, what say you about slightly heated pucks??? sizzlin' --- but not hot enough to burn through goalie gloves

Burke made the statement more than once that it was the honorable to put the player back on the ice...rather than "packing him up" and sending him out [...to the hospial]. First of all, I'm very shocked that Holmer wasn't concussed after that hit and would think it would have probably have been in the best interest of Holmer's noggin to maybe at least sit out the rest of the game and maybe get checked out by a doctor. I just don't see the "honor" in returning to the game. I see it as maybe on the irresponsible side, especially when dealing with a possible head injury. Most of the time when dealing with head injuries, we closely monitor patients. I understand hockey players have a history of re-attaching a limb ala Yzerman's knee or wanting to get back out there and not miss a shift but gosh, its the head! Now maybe Holmers the exception, he stands in front of the net for a living with less protection than a goalie. And we may not always know what he is saying and attribute it to his accent...I don't know... Can someone please shed some light on the topic?

can't detroiters without the VS channel just head to a local bar to watch or something?
-
Probably due to the shock factor, line changes and the fact 2 refs and a linesman jumped in immediately and escorted Jamie out.

I'm looking forward to this opportunity too. Go Wings! -
Let's put it this way, Don Cherry dresses like a blind retarded pimp for heaven's sake and he still thinks he is the best dressed canadian, I wouldn't invest much thought into what he has to say.

Funny you mention that, I'm not much of a lip reader trust me, but after the call (we had a slew of calls against us at that point) he was chirping all the way to the box and on his way through the penalty box door, he turned to the ref and said "you're a f*%! up" plain as day. Then, not a split second after that, the ref motioned for a misconduct penatly . I don't know if thats enough to get yourself a misconduct in today's NHL but the ref sure didn't seem to want to put up with the abuse. I personally thought it was kinda funny.

hahaha! And everyone thought they'd trade Jagr

I think alot of it depends on which goalie takes the reins this season and out performs the other. That will determine next year's goalie situation. On the other hand, Luongo doesn't look to happy with Florida, I wonder if the wings will take a hard look at him next season..if he is a free agent. At any rate, our future goalie situation is lookin pretty damn good
