    The most prestigious individual award?

I typically view the COnn Smytghe as a greater acheviement than the Hart, but it really depends especially if a goalie is involved. Considering the goalie is practically the default for any good team effort in the playoffs I feel it cheapens the potency of the award, though contrarily what Giguere did was concurrently impressive to any skater winning the award if not more. SO in effect being on a winning or losing team counts into the equation as well. Basically on a graduated scale my list goes as... 1. Non-goalie Conn Smythe from the losing team in the playoffs. 2. Non-goalie Conn Smythe from the winning team in the playoffs. 3. Goalie Conn Smythe from the losing team in the playoffs. 4. Hart. 5. Conn Smythe won by goalie (sorry Vernon.)

Zetterberg named TSN's Player of the Year

Nice honor to Z, and by all accounts any top notch 2-way player during the regular season who wins the Conn Smythe should automatically be player of the year. Good to see Lidstrom finish third as well.

2008 NHL Awards Ceremony Thread (GDT)

Regardless of whether it takes effecr ot not it gives his agent one less bargaining tool for more salary, I do agree he'd likely get the same either way however.

Anyone else kind of glad to see Datsyuk win the Selke over Z (even though I agree that if playoff perfomrnace was tallied he'd have won.) I'm sure Hank will deserve every dollar his contract will be worth and I can see him making a bit more than Pasha, but me thinks this may limit that some when the two salaries are compared.

McLellan to be named Sharks' head coach

I was actually pretty pissed when I first heard the news, but I like San Jose and McLellan really earned this so congrads for the much deserved step up to Todd.!

Lids & Oz on The Tonight Show...?

I thought it was pretty cheesy, but all in good fun and good for a chuckle. Athletes are typically rancid in acting roles so it was refreshing to see them act silly and have some fun with their place on the show.

    Trevor Linden Retires

It's a shame he had to go out missing the playoffs like he did, always liked Trevor Linden and it saddens me to see him go. He's also my fiancee's favorite player so I'm sure she'll be somewhat upset, though you had to figure this was coming soon.

    Most difficult playoff opponent

My order goes as: 1. Nashville, hard to judge however due to the goalie shift but they were the only team to tie the series with us and handedly beat us in a game. 2. Dallas, really close to Pitt in terms of difficulty, while this series could have easily been a sweep counting Homer's stolen goal to give us the lead in game 4, Dallas showed a lot of heart and made things somewhat interesting for us before folding. 3. Pittsburgh, would have been higher but the first two games weren't even close and though we didn't get raped by the refs to possibly clinch a sweep, the extremely biased officiated was far less concealed than I had seen it in any other playoff series and was the only thing that made this series truly competitive. 4. Colorado, maybe if they had been completely healthy they could have won a game.
