Dispelling some myths: the Pittsburgh Penguins
vladdy16 replied to betterREDthandead's topic in General
Freakin' newbs and their emoticons! I'm finding that a steady diet of alcohol is pretty good at taking the edge off. It's easier to get than Valium. I'd recommend jello shots for while you're at work. People just think you're having a snack. -
Actually, our mayor was forced to turn down that bet - "Hockeytown" is a trademark owned by the Ilitch's. Link.

A nice message was left for chrissy thanking her for submitting those pictures on behalf of the posters at letsgowings.com.

Pittsburgh fish market: No octopi for Wings fans
vladdy16 replied to captainsteviey's topic in General
I say good for him. He could make a pretty good chunk of change selling octopi, but he chooses to support his team. -
A basketball fan who couldn't possibly care less about hockey isn't going to watch the NHL regardless of what night it's on or at what time. Those that might tune in if the date and/or time were different are few and far between - not a big loss. And I'm well aware that hockey is a niche sport. Changing the television time isn't really going to change that. People have to be drawn in - not many are going to trip over the game and leave the station on. That being said, it sure wouldn't kill them to give hockey every chance to attract some fans, would it?
-
Detroit's not being screwed. I don't know a single person who's torn over what to watch. They're either a basketball fan or a hockey fan - no conflict whatsoever.

harold, you said it yourself - revisionist history. Not one article I located was from 1997 - they were all 2006 and after. People tend to be kinder a few years down the road. My memory of him retiring didn't mention health issues other than the health of the league. It's easy to say now, knowing what we know, that it was health, but there's nothing to back it up that I can find from the original retirement. And I went to Pittsburgh papers. Just trying to be fair. And I'm not picking on Mario, just being objective. Maybe I only remember that part because I thought it was kind of punky to quit the league because he didn't like it, but I can't find anything to prove it either way. And Mario's not fit to lace Yzerman's skates!

I have to back up DaKineMaui on this one, if not the manner in which it was expressed. The main reason cited in the media when Mario retired the first time was he didn't like the way the game was played. A Google search of his initial retirement mentions this regularly, but a Pittsburgh paper archive search for this topic doesn't return any results whatsoever. Interesting. While I don't agree that it made me lose all respect for him, DKM has every right to feel the way he does, just as Lemiuex has every right to retire for whatever reason he sees fit, be it injuries, illness, petulance, whatever, but it just doesn't look good for an icon of the game to make the remarks he did under those circumstances. Let's not cannonize Mario before his time, shall we?

GAME 2 TAILGATE, I WILL SUPPLY FOOD AND DRINKS!
vladdy16 replied to Gnredwing's topic in Group Events
Going to game 2, but it's tradition that we "tailgate" in Greektown before the game. Don't want to mess with the playoff juju. However, you're welcome to join us at Pegasus if you'd like. Nothing like breathing mass amounts of garlic on opposing team's fans on the People Mover on the way to the game! -
Mission accepted.

Enter here to win a suite for game 2. I haven't seen this much marketing since Mr. I was giving away cars at home games! WT GO WINGS!!

It is illegal for Michigan event tickets to be sold for more than face value. That's why prices are so much higher in other areas versus Michigan. If they're scalping them on Ebay, you could report them just for spite, especially if they're in Pennsylvania!! (jk) Also, I wonder if they give each area so many tickets to sell. That would explain Pens being able to purchase tickets while Wings are left out in the cold.

I'd enter, but I already have tickets to game 2. Now if they do this for game 5.........

vladdy16 replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
Got my game 2 tickets with 08SCUPSTH. Game 5 wasn't available at that time for some reason. -

Game 2, hockey gods willing. Hope there's plenty of Pens fans there. I like it when Toronto fans show up - which is the only time there's more than a handful of opposing team's fans in attendance. And he was dripping sarcasm in his post about the suits, I do believe.

I don't give a rat's ass about high-scoring games. Some of the best games ever have been 1-0, 2-1, etc. The instigator rule is an abomination and needs to be shot at dawn posthaste. Making all goals/non-goals reviewable just automates the game. You might as well play NHL 08 and be done with it.

Welcome to our world.

It's an email. I don't do snail mail!

Sounds like you're finally starting to get it, CalWingsFan.

The solution for not liking what they're saying is simple - don't read it. Certainly don't bring it back here.

The presale code was released to Pens fans so a few of them have been buying up tickets. They think it's funny, I think it's cool. We never have very many opposing team's fans in the Joe unless it's Toronto. Maybe then they'll realize the Joe isn't the morgue the media makes it out to be. I've been to one game out of each series thus far. Hoping to scrape together enough cash to get to the finals if we make it.

Dino's comment - I can't believe I shook his freakin' hand.

Trust me. The instant there's a single shred of news, it will be posted.
