  1. Paul Van Eijl of Minnesota has invented a machine that will resurface the ice in approximately a minute, which will mean no more Zambonis and no more Al. I understand progress, but where do we draw the line of putting people out of jobs? And when do we progress versus protecting the history of the game? BTW, this won't shorten intermissions; the CBA states it has to be 18 minutes. This leaves that much more time for Musical Chairs at center ice. Oh, yay.

The Habs are looking to join Vancouver and San Jose in shenanigans. I'm easing off the bandwagon.

And Boston fans are now pissed because they're saying whoever comes out of the East will coast to the Cup.

Holy crap! The only thing that marred this 2nd round so far is Chicago moving forward. I didn't dare to dream this would happen, but well done, Habs!

Canada can support 3 more teams in 20yrs

Not that I necessarily disagree with what you're saying, but (and this is going to sound mean but that's not what I'm trying to convey, so bear that in mind) you're coming across as pretty militant about your opinion. I get that being a Preds fan hasn't been easy, but the economic reality is that a Canadian team would be optimal, especially in the short term. While you may think (along with many others) that a team in a different market would eventually grow the game, you can't deny the reality that it still is Canada's game no matter how much the US bastardizes it, and the smart money hockey-wise is in Canada. A Canadian team would also benefit the Preds - chances are they wouldn't qualify for revenue sharing, which would increase - or at least not decrease - Nashville's shot at that money.

Wow, I needed a cigarette after that series-ending, Penguin-punting game it was so good. Not the game itself, just the result. Mad props to NY for pulling themselves out of a down 3-1 cellar.

They're not generating the revenue; that doesn't mean the owner doesn't have money to invest like all the owners since the beginning of the league have. Remember when the Preds owner told the press they were never going to spend above the cap floor to get as much revenue sharing as possible? If they're not willing to invest in the team, why should anyone else? If I were an investor looking to sink my money into a new NHL team, I'd invest in a Canadian team or not at all. The odds are in favor that a new Canadian team would do better than a new US team IMO.

I have to disagree with you a little. Small market teams CAN spend the money, they won't. Any owner has the same money any other owner has. They choose not to invest in their product. I think that's their own problem. Plus now they have revenue sharing, which helps considerably.

Bruins getting very chippy at the end of the game, and what'shisface is talking about Boston "sending a message" for game 7. (Of course Iginla was in there) What, that they're punkass *******? That they're frustrated? Didn't the Habs already know this?

i don't think it's snobbish at all. I think it's as polite as you can get in describing a place where you wouldn't normally expect hockey or where the game doesn't already have a solid foothold.
  13. Now for the second favorite part of the season - Money on the Board. For those who know how it works, pledge up! For those that don't know how it works, each participant decides what they would like to pledge for the Wings run in the playoffs. It could be 50 cents per goal, it could be 5 bucks per game won, it could be a penny for each hit; our members get very creative! I just pledge a dollar amount per series win. I'm boring. You are responsible for keeping track of how much your donation is. A lot of people keep track in their signatures. It's a lot of fun. Once there is no possible way to add money to the pot, everyone PayPals their donation to me and I send it on to Children's Hospital. I then receive a very nice thank-you note, which I post here. You can do a board search for previous Money on the Board threads to see how it all works and maybe get some pledging ideas. Here's hoping we have TONS o' cash to send off to the kiddies this year. GO WINGS!!

Boooooooo. I haven't been watching because I'm the kiss of death for the teams I like this year, but maybe I'll start watching since they're losing anyway. It's the attitude I took with the Wings. GO RAGS!

4th Annual Playoff Money On The Board!

We have one last participant who is setting up a PayPal account and then we'll be all set. I'm really thinking Mr. and Mrs. Hockey. It's nice to recognize people while they're able to know about it. Well, Mr. Hockey, but he'll get a warm fuzzy for Mrs. Hockey. We can do Tatar's father next season, or split it if we have someone else in mind. Besides, I'd have to offer contact information for Tatar, and I don't know about anybody else, but I'm not privy to where he lives.

Because the Wings only have 1 buyout left.
