I get what you're saying, harold; but it would be for show only. I think the players having any real say in this is much like being an employee at *insert huge corporation name here* and having the temerity to tell the COO that they can't open a plant in New Mexico and transfer the employees there. While that would suck, and I agree workers need to be protected, but they're workers, not owners. They have no real right to tell them how to run the business.

Honestly, I'm loving the Central these days. The last month of the season was always boring because the Wings had the Central locked and did nothing but coast into the playoffs. Personally, and I know I'm in the minority, I can't stand Hitchcock, but you can't argue with what he's done for the Blues. I don't think I've ever seen a coach make such an immediate and positive impact on a team. Bravo! Are the Blues in the driver's seat? It's possible, but probably not so much at this point. I'd just like to see that this upswing lasts more than this season. The defense will not play like a wall forever, and how many goaltenders have we seen get hot going into the playoffs and then fizzle pretty much for good?

I totally agree. Dumbass had his head down, more than likely knowing Kronwall was there. I don't like it or agree with it, but those are the new rules. I wish part of the new rules was the ability to decline a PP. 9 shorthanded goals given up this season? Second in the league. Pitiful.

Headshot. He wasn't aiming for the head, but it was principle point of contact - 2 games.

Hey, if the Blues idea of success is winning the division, I say bravo! While the initial home advantage would certainly be nice, I'm looking far beyond the Central. The nice part of me will keep the evil part of me from mentioning 25 years of making the playoffs, only to remain irrelevant. Oops.

Now if they get rid of Burke, I'll believe they think they deserve better as well.

The last player I hated for simply being good was Patrick Roy. Since then, I just appreciate their talent if they're not complete assholes.

2012 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 27th, 3:00 PM ET

Who's going to take Stuart? He's UFA next season - talk about a rental. -
Big Rig out a month with a broken wrist.

I can handle losing, but I really don't like getting shut out.

I love how your every comment seeks to denigrate those who's opinions don't concur with yours. Classic case of an inferiority complex. Wings are in the west - Wings fans quite often stay up past 10 or 11 to watch games. Of course it just has to be the media that conjures and reinforces these specious stereotypes out of thin air. Lord knows we don't have good vision or any real hockey sense to be able to make these determinations on our own. I find it odd that a Nucks fan who doesn't care about the opinion of Wings fans would make it a point to come over to a Wings board after a Vancouver win and state that specifically. Methinks thou doth protest too much..... Some of these attitudes strike me as eerily similar to those of Preds fans who insist there's some big rivalry between these teams when thus far there clearly isn't, at least in the minds of thousands of "delusional" Detroit fans. Maybe someday we'll have the epiphany you obviously so desperately want us to have. That being said, in spite of some issues, Vancouver deserved the win IMO.

And I think the Wings are going to beat the Nucks, so there! Vancouver fans in general are not hated - there was a little teeny bit of trolling going on a couple of days ago, so people are being just a little sensitive. All respectful fans are welcome here. Trolls, including the Red Wing kind, are not. Welcome!

Oh, well. The streak had to end some time, right? No big thing, and Pavel is getting this done in plenty of time to be 100% in the playoffs. And I guess if we're pinning all of our hopes on one player, however awesome he may be, then we didn't stand a snowflake's chance in hell anyway.

Hey, the Pistons are defending their 3-game win streak tonight. That's SO much more important than this one against a divisional rival, right?
-
Seems just a little optimistic, but scoping isn't a big deal - I've had it done 4 times. You can walk on it the day of surgery. A little Aleve, some ice and a couple days later you're doing physical therapy. Well, 2 weeks later for me, but I've never been in that kind of physical condition.

We didn't offer these opinions unsolicited - they were asked for by a Nucks fan who insists this is a touchstone game. Sorry, but as a hockey fan who saw 30 longer ago than I care to admit, no one outside of Canada and under God only knows what age considers Vancouver an NHL "flagship." And no one has "dumped on" Vancouver in this thread any more than (and quite a bit less than) I've seen Nucks fans do in seasons past; we just don't consider this a game any more important than most. And we've lost regular season series to many whom we have subsequently dismissed from the playoffs. Outside of a divisional rival, regular season series in a good season don't mean a whole lot. Detroit hasn't had an actual riot since 1968 and I defy you to find any real evidence outside of accusations from non-local media to prove otherwise, yet it's a perpetual joke in North America. Anyone who does have an actual riot is going to hear about it repeatedly from Detroiters. Might as well learn to live with it - it's not going away any time soon. And it's not luck the Wings have been dominant - it's by the grace of Mike Ilitch and the genius of Jim Devellano. We Michiganders must be right with Jesus to be so blessed. So I'm sorry if we don't hold the Nucks in the same esteem you do, but I am hard pressed to think of any reason thus far why we should.

While I see the reason why this thread has taken this turn, it's still not quite the place for this discussion. Please debate the legalities in PD. Thanks.

While I understand their point to a certain extent, I'll bet my next paycheck that if it were the Flyers with the streak, they'd be thrilled*, as well as any other team's fans if it were their team. *And I mean about the streak, not just winning in general!

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Vlasic is okay!

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, Vancouver games mean no more than Phoenix games. It's just another game on the schedule that I'd like to win.

Sharks May overcome your streak. Otherwise it would be a great game.

I was originally going to pull it, but I thought the general populace might like to feed on him a little. Too evil? -

You can end the streak - we'll settle for our playoff success. And by the way, it's impossible to come to a Wings board and be a "fellow" Sharks fan. -
I think that speaks to transplants across the country moreso than the Wings' appeal to those not born and raised in Michigan. Having lived in 3 states other than Michigan, I never once ran into another Wings fan outside of the Wings/Sharks game at the Cow Palace.

Is Nicklas Lidstrom The Greatest Detroit Red Wing Of All Time?
vladdy16 replied to up2here's topic in General
Nick is certainly up there, but I would have a hard time giving him the Number One spot. Gordie always has been and always will be The Man to me. However, Stevie was more important to the Wings than either Gordie or Nick. It depends on what you're going to base it on. -
I was reading this article about the WC. Here's my favorite part when talking about Gary Bettman discussing the history between the Wings and Leafs: He made no mention of the 1998 expansion that sent Toronto to the East and replaced Detroit's treasured rival with something called the Nashville Predators.
