If the cap had gone down, that would have been a statement he could make, but a player of his calibre taking a pay cut when the cap goes up makes no sense whatsoever. I'm thrilled he decided to play another season, and the Wings could pay him 10mil and I wouldn't bat an eye. This is a man who has taken pretty major home town discounts in the past and has deferred his own salary so we could sign other players. IMO, Nick has given the Wings more than his fair share. I was on the west coast at the time as well and yes, according to the national media Detroit was burning to the ground. I called home only to find nothing was really going on. Detroit has been razed at least 5 times according to national media. Funny, a lot of the buildings that were there when I was a kid are still there, and with no fire damage. Hmmmmmmm. You can't make claims of what has happened because of a lack of sources. I can find a ton of information on the '68 riots and there was no internet then either. If these alleged riots happened in '89 & '90, I suspect we could find something on them in spite of no internet. All I ask is that you not make these claims without some support. If you weren't there and can't cite sources, it's a rumor.

I am not too young to remember the 1984 "riot." Please find me any evidence whatsoever that it even came close to the shenannighans of Vancouver. And NO ONE died in 1989. I have searched high and low for articles or photos, but nothing I find supports your claims, so it's not just memory loss on my part. Please be careful what you spread around without support.

Because it's not Detroit. The coverage of the Pistons championship in California had me believing Detroit was burned to the ground; come to find out it was just one car that they're not even sure was part of the celebration and no real damage was done compared to this Vancouver deal. I think it's BS.

ONE car got torched, no stabbings, no reporters beaten up - no perspective necessary. While Detroit fans were indeed being idiotic, that in no way compares to the Vancouver debacle.

Wow. I did not expect this for game 7. I feel bad for Nucks fans - no way should they be treated to this display in a SCF game at home. Highest rated SCF in forever and Luongo is s***ting the bed on an international scale.

I'm not all excited about this prospect either, but in all fairness, if anyone can rejuvenate his career, it's the Wings. They've done it for Draper, Clearly, Lang, etc. If they want to try it, I won't argue, but I won't be happy about it either.

Let me just say that if Tim Thomas was a Wing, I'd offer to bear his children. Glad the B's got first blood, but the Nucks have played very strong in this first and are on the forecheck and backcheck like a mo fo. I have yet to see a dive. I am very pleased.

At the beginning of the series my mom asked me who I thought would win; my response was "I want the Bruins to win, but if I had to put money on it, I'd bet on Vancouver." Now I really, really want the Bruins to win it. Supposedly the Western Conference is tougher than the Eastern, but all the WCF and this SCF has shown me is how much more diving the West does. I'm embarrassed to be in the same conference with the Sharks and Nucks this year. Hopefully the hockey gods will teach the West that you can't dive your way to the Cup tonight. GO BRUINS!!!!

What a game! Sedin gets called for diving and it actually gets better from there! Luongo gets pulled and Boston proves who's their ***** in the Garden once again. The only thing that could have possibly made that game better for me was to have Boston win the Cup. Thank you, hockey gods, I had a great time.

We had so much fun with this during the Columbus games, I thought we'd do a playoff version. This time we're going to do it a little differently; you pledge whatever amount you like (per game, per series, whatever) - if the Wings win, you pony up. If the Wings lose, so does Children's Hospital. We will do this for every playoff series this post-season the Wings are involved in. I decided to pledge $20 for the series win, plus another $1 for every multi-goal game Franzen has. This will be my standard pledge for each series. Anyone else in?

Sorry, Mr. Yzerman, but I just couldn't take Stanley getting another tan. Besides, if you win a Cup in your first season, there's nowhere to go but down after that. This could be a very interesting series or one of the most boring SCF in history. I'm hoping for the former, and that the B's pull it off. Original Six and they have the best commercials. History tells us the refs will pretty much swallow their whistles in this series; I'm hoping the Nucks respect the Finals and don't feel the need to continue with their previous antics. And if they do, I hope Chara Kronwalls them.

Sign him as a face-off man at the very least. We need someone who can take those damn things. I say he still has some value to the team at this point. One more year isn't going to make or break the season for us and I don't think he's taking a spot away from anyone else who's really ready right now.

I just hope the Nucks didn't blow their wad on this game and saved a little something for the rest of the series. I do believe historically that after a blow-out in the playoffs, the blower loses to the blowee the next game. I'm hoping for an "S" word in this series.
