It's not an overpayment - he just sold his chance to ever win a Cup.

I can't get Center Ice. WOW won't host the NHL Network, so they can't offer CI. Booooooooo.
-
No love for Mats Sundin? Seeing as how I can never limit myself to 5 of anything, my list would be 7-10 long and Sundin would be in there.

I don't think anyone is more "excite" about this than Lidstrom. I'm thinking shaving a few minutes off his ice time will be a welcome relief. I know it will make me happier - we're coming into the home stretch. I wouldn't like to see him overplayed and tired when the playoffs start.

I think that if Mario had just said this isn't the way this game should be played and we need to do something about it, everyone would be fine with that, Matt Cooke or no. Where he really crosses over into petulance is when he goes on to say "I'm not sure I want to be a part of this league." If that's how he feels, fine; say it in the board room, not to the media. What he said and the way he went about it smacks of a double standard on his part. And the favoritism is horrifically blatant in not reprimanding him at the very least. No one else has ever gotten away with calling out the NHL in public.

Okay - so every owner has a free pass now?

This is going to be Mario's epitaph, I swear. Someone should just put this on the back of his jersey and be done with it. I'm so freakin' tired of hearing him ***** and moan about the league and threatening to take his toys and go home if it's not run just the way he likes it. Good luck and Godspeed to you then, Mario.

So who would they trade for whom that would shake this team up? I agree acquiring a free agent could potentially be great, but we don't have the cap space to acquire anyone worth having, and an FA signing is not a trade.
-
No, you're not the only one. I think this team has everything it needs to go all the way except for consistency and showing up ready to play. I don't think a change in personnel will do a damn thing except for screw up the chemistry we have seen this team play with. Sometimes I swear I have never seen anything more beautiful than the Wings' play - their passing in particular. The elements are there, they just need to get their heads out of their asses.

LMAO - quote from post-game: "The Red Wings needed another injury like the world needs another Big Mama's House movie."

I feel for Malkin. I chortle at the Pens. Guess what we're wishing? If you respond to this, it hasn't come true yet.

We are shamelessly stealing this from the Columbus fans! Let's all chip in a little (or a lot!) for a Wings win tonight and tomorrow. The Ilitch family has their own foundation, so we could donate to that OR we can donate specifically to the DRW Foundation (proceeds going to Konstantinov and Mnatsakanov and their families) for a win, or to Children's Hospital in the event of a not-so-fun outcome. I vote for the latter. I'm kicking it off with 5 bucks. Anyone else who's in, PayPal address is wingsdiva@gmail.com. *edit* For those who don't know me, no need to be concerned - the money will get to where it belongs. Matt knows where I live!

I guess it's possible, but the only way I've ever missed any game time is when I try to use the bathroom, smoke AND wait in line for a drink. I have found it impossible to do all three. Too bad I don't drink Miller - they sell them outside, no wait. Cheli's Chili is pretty good. My personal opinion is that they are overpriced. My family has a tradition of parking at the Greektown Casino, going to Pegasus for dinner before the game and then riding the People Mover over to the Joe. We seldom waiver from that plan, and then only in the most dire of circumstances.
-
No, what you do is go out in the smoking area at the Gordie Howe entrance. There are port-a-potties out there. I've never had to wait longer than 3 minutes. In this weather, probably a lot less. Ssshhhhhh, don't tell anyone or the lines will get longer.

I sent my Wish Application in for the game on the 13th against Boston - it says "LetsgoWings.com supports Children's Hospital." If you're at the game, look for it on the Jumbotron between the 1st and 2nd.
-
Sorry I missed it- I had to work. I got home just in time to see the game. Glad Rob made it - he had told me he wasn't going to be able to go. Looks like a good time was had by all!

The Wings were not always so well-run. It took Ilitch & Co. decades to get where they are now, and I'm fairly certain not all of their moves were on the up-and-up. (See Fedorov) Snow's job is to do the best he can to improve and maintain the team. He's done nothing more than that in this case. Of course Nabby wouldn't have signed a contract with NY outright. No one is arguing that. Whether it's right or wrong, the rule as it stands is that Nabby had to clear waivers. Everyone involved knew that better than we did, and were very much aware of the chances of this actually panning out in our favor. Am I pleased with this situaion? Hardly. It is what it is and I still fail to see how Snow did anything wrong or underhanded or something we should be angry about. It was a smart move on his part, and from what I understand, those are few and far between.
-
No one is forgetting he signed with Detroit - the problem is you seem to keep forgetting that the Wings were on the bottom of the list when it came to actually getting him. Detroit gambled and lost. Was everyone aware that Nabby preferred Detroit? Of course. Does that mean every other team can't make a move that is rightfully theirs to make and will improve their team just because Holland has tapped someone? If we claimed a goalie off waivers that someone else had signed, we all be jumping up and down with glee and once again marveling at the genius that is Ken Holland. Relax, folks, it's not like we lost out on Patrick Roy circa 1996 or anything.
-
God help me, but I too am in Eva's camp. Islanders have more need for goaltending than we do and they risk the same as we did - nothing. I don't understand why everyone is so angry with Snow. He got first dibs and ran with it. Now, do I blame Nabby for not reporting? Nope. However, the odds are in NY's favor at this point that they'll get something out of this fiasco.
-
That is just pitiful. I like to get my He Who Shall Not Be Named hate on just as much if not more than anyone else, but wishing injuries on anyone is just ridiculous. Thanks for making us all guilty by association. (BTW - karma is a *****)

Snow is screwed no matter what he does at this point. Waive him and look like a doormat or force someone to play who doesn't want to...... I don't envy him. From the outside looking in, I can't fathom what would be best for the Islanders in the long run.
-
This is a tough call for me - on one hand, we all know Snow was well within his rights to claim Nabby. On the other hand, it was obvious Nabby wanted to play with a contender, not a bottom-feeder. If you let players dictate where they want to play, that leaves out a TON of teams at this point. Phoenix would have folded long ago. (Not that that is necessarily a bad thing) And to me it wasn't that long ago the Wings were in the very same position - you would be hard pressed to find someone who said they actually wanted to play in Detroit. Our beloved Red Wings may very well have folded in the 70s or early 80s for lack of players. If NY decides to honor Nabby's wishes and waive him, that sets a dangerous precedent for the future. I don't see a solution where everyone comes out of this feeling good, but it wouldn't break my heart if Evgeni ended up in Detroit.
