man do i miss stuff like this,....

Agreed. Those players are few and far between these days. The ones who are out there aren't going to be had for anything less than top dollar. Who or what would we be willing to give up to get such a player? Would it be worth it? As for toughness and the playoffs, I am sure someone said it before, but there is a distinction between someone who can get dirty in the corners, take crosschecks and cheap shots, and come back for more and someone who throws right hands like Kocur used to. Do I wish we had a fighter? Sure, but he better be able to do more than fight. After Homer took that hit from Pronger and Neidemayer, got stitched up, came back in the 3rd period and made the impact that he did in the game, I would take a team full of guys like Homer and Cleary rather than guys like Laraque and Boogaard. Homer IS a tough SOB.

    Best foot forward

Not that you can truly draw any conclusions from this, but seeing these pictures reminded me of this thread: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years...portsmugs1.html

    Brian Rafalski = Larry Murphy?

He sure as hell has GOT to be a faster skater than Murph!

That's why I have my kids playing hockey. If they insist on looking up to an athlete, I would rather they have a hockey player as an example than any other major pro athlete. Better that they are missing a few teeth than try to impress their friends with a mouthful of gold ones.

    New preds Jersey

They aren't great but they aren't that bad either. They are far and away better than the old 3rd sweater or anything that the Thrashers have.

    whats next?

That's what the Preds thought about Forsberg too, and look what it got them. The difference is that they paid dearly for him.

    Training Camp Questions

Definitely will. I thought it was kind of odd though that they were accepting fax orders beginning on a Sunday.

    The sky isn't falling guys...

It would get REALLY hard to breathe... Last off season I resigned myself to watching the team lose repeatedly and hopefully sneaking into the playoffs. I was wiping the tears from my eyes listening to Stevie announce his retirement, even though I knew it was coming (now I know why I refuse watch Old Yeller ). I told my wife at various times that "it's going to be a long season"; however, we were a gnats ass away from the SCF!!! Point is, it could be much worse. I would have felt better had we kept Bert and Markov, but such is life. If we are looking good come Spring and we avoid the injury bug, SOMEONE on a crappy team will be willing to be the rent-a-player or players that could give us the missing pieces. Of course, I could be wrong...

    Training Camp Questions

I didn't get my order faxed in until first thing Monday either. I called Centre Ice in TS today and left a voicemail, and I also sent an email inquiring about ticket responses. The person that I left a message for was going to be out all week on vacation, so that may explain the lack of response. I tried several times at the rink and no one answered at any of the numbers that I tried (during regular business hours). My 6 yr. old plays on the local Mites team and he eats, sleeps, and breathes the Wings. He really has his heart set on going to camp this year (well, I am pretty excited too).

    Sharks ready for Holmstrom?

Amen. Everyone today is so candy-assed and sensitive...wait, let's ask Ron Wilson if #25 has a "candy ass". Geez, get over it. Let's all hold hands, sing "Kumbaya" and hope the Wings grab one at the Tank tonight (well I don't mean literally "GRAB ONE"...oh never mind). Damn it, GO WINGS!!!!

Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?

That sounds like something a fan of a certain team in our division would do. I have been a Browns fan for years, so I am used to pulling for a team that hasn't done anything in 20 years. You don't jump ship on your team no matter how bad they get. I despise band wagon fans. I asked myself for about 2 nanoseconds what I would do if the Wings tanked badly for a few years, and I realized that my answer would be that hopefully ticket prices would go down and I could actually afford to drive up to Detroit and see a few games.

Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?

While I was in the Navy ('91 - '95), I was stationed in Japan. Some of my best buddies on the ship, coincidentally, were from Michigan. I had always liked hockey, but being from Ohio I didn't really have a favorite team. My buddies were HUGE Wings fans, and my only other choices for teams at that time that would have qualified as anything close to being a "home" team were the Penguins, Sabres, or 'Hawks. I hate to get interested in a team just because they are winning, and the Wings, of course, hadn't won the Cup in decades but were getting better. The more I learned about the team, their heritage, and the fact that they were kind of an "under dog" at the time the more I loved 'em.
