I altered General Eisenhower's letter to the troops on D-Day You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of hockey-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the Anaheim war machine, the elimination of Duck tyranny over the oppressed peoples of the NHL, and security for ourselves in a free world. Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely. But this is the year 2009! Much has happened since the Duck triumphs of 2007. The San Jose Sharks have inflicted upon the Anaheim Ducks great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our puck offensive has seriously reduced their strength in their zone and their capacity to wage war on defense. Our Black Aces have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The Red Wings are marching together to Victory! I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory! Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

The Wings see our AHL players in this light: they let them play in the minors until the players MAKE the Wings call them up. They have to play their way onto the roster, and are not given spots. That is why you will not see an 18 year old Red Wing anytime soon. Our farm system is a prime spot for players to grow and if they produce enough to make the front office of the Wings take notice and say, "Hey, we should give this kid a shot here." When they have nothing else to prove in the AHL, the Wings give them one more year down there just to be sure, and then that player will be NHL ready.

nice series by the SP for sure! sweeps are always welcome!

WOW... just WOW! JV with another Gem and Curt makes the play of the year so far in MLB!

We have pieces, but we are far from doing anything this season. In 3 years I think we can flirt with .500 again.

So we got Foote. A winner should be good juju for the lions finally. http://freep.com/article/20090506/SPORTS01...+to+1-year+deal

Will everyone stop with the Bettman/NHL/Ref/Conspiracy thing? Root for the Wings... cheer when they win, critique their effort when they lose. The NHL/Bettman/Refs are not against the Wings, nor are they rigging games so that Pittsburgh gets to the finals. The teams play the same game, same amount of players, on the same dimensions of ice, and thats it. I am sick and tired of all the crap that is being said about the NHL playing a part in who wins the games. LET IT GO!

Anyone see "The Longest Yard" when the refs were going against Adam Sandler's team? I think the Wings should try Sandler's answer to that...
-
what a game! big rick was awesome, Clete was awesome in his first game, Cabby with another bomb, Curt with a homer... just an all around great game!

trust me, there were no highlights from tonight's game. the atmosphere was really down, there were only 2500 people in the stands, entire sections were empty, the players didnt have any jump in them, it was just a bad, bad game
-
no, just a 2 and a 10. he had an interference penalty, then on the way to the box he speared a guy in the nuts (not sure if the refs saw that one... I did though) and then he threw his gloves to try and fight someone I guess, and he was really jawing at the ref on the way to the box.

chalk game 1 up to the good guys!

wtf is up with the camera guy, it looks like he has never taped a hockey game before

I think the wings are going to be a little more hesitant to bring up the farm because the Griffins are also in the playoffs, and have advanced to the second round. Players will be brought up if needed, but they will not bring up players if they are just going to be practicing and not playing.

I am really encouraged by our starters thus far. A blip today by the pen, but otherwise they have been very good as well. This was just another "one bad inning" game. The offense was shut down by another good pitcher, but I really like how our starters are going this far in the season.

JV with a GEM! damn he is good when he is on.

Where are all the Inge haters now? He is on a freeking roll! Leads the team in HR and RBI! Good, close win today, leave the road 5-4, and coming home to welcome the Yanks to CoPa.
-
Maggs and Laird finally get their first dingers tonight! Good win by the good guys, miner was a little shaky but was able to pitch around some jams. I will take 9-1 wins any day.

LOL WHO? WTF is up with the Lions?
-
If Maualuga slips to the Lions at #33 and they pass, that will be an epic fail for the lions organization.

Well, we needed a TE too, but I thought O-line and LB would be more of a priority. Pettigrew should be good for the offense and I have heard he is a good blocker too.
