pardon my yelling here, but KEEP RABURN THE HECK OFF THE BASEBALL FIELD. oh my gosh, every time he is on the field he craps something out. I cannot believe that jim put him in especially to pinch hit. and you didn't need to put Valverde in either. the whole bullpen was fresh with verlander pitching yesterday. ugh, so many bad decisions today. reel the division back in close, jim. end rant. sorry, just frustrating watching him manage sometimes.

Let's see if Penny is up to the task of beating a team he should beat. ChiSox beat Cleveland last night, so we have a 3 game lead over the Indians and a 3.5 lead over the sox. Best case scenario for us is they split the next 2 games.

Santiago at 2b = win Raburn at 2b = loss I wonder who to play?

I say you play Santiago at 2nd the remainder of the season, trade Raburn for a pack of sunflower seeds, and make Magglio bat-boy. That way we have this: CF Jackson RF Boesch LF Young 1B Cabrera DH Martinez SS Peralta C Avila 2B Santiago 3B Betimit I will take that into the playoffs at this point.

The non-waiver deadline is July 31, when you can trade a player for a player and whatever without going any further than that. Kinda like the NHL deadline. The trade-waiver rules mean that you must place a player on waivers before a trade. Then from bottom to top, teams in the same league i.e. AL or NL have a shot to claim him, followed by the other league, again bottom to top. If he is claimed, the waiving team can pull him off, let him go for nothing, or negotiate a trade with the claimer team. If he then clears waivers from all teams, he can be traded to anyone. In this case, he needed to only drop to the tigers, who then could negotiate a trade with the twins. After August 31, players who are traded are not eligible to participate in the post-season, like the Stairs trade in '06. hope that helps.

you beat me to it. I love this move. he is only 25 and hopefully his struggles this year were just from playing on the crappy twinkies team this year. Maybe a jump to the front will kick him in gear.

why, why, why, why is Raburn playing 3B? We have Betimit and Kelley who can play there. Raburn boots every friggin ball. Why did we pick up Betimit if we only play him every 3 games? Ugh Leyland is pissing me off.

Good comeback win. Wish we could open up a few run lead once in a while. Still having daily heart attacks.

I like winning and all, but it would be good for every Tiger's fan heart if we would open up a sizable lead in a game once in a while. I dunno how many more 1 run heart attacks I can take.

Alrighty, games start tonight, so give me an over/under for wins this season. The Lions win 9 games this year.

HUGE win. We really needed that one. JV gets win 17 on the season and 100 for his career and Papa Grande sets a Tigers record with 33 straight saves to open a season. Lead is back to 3 games going on to play the Orioles.

Guillen kicked that game twice with the bat and once in the field. I would be neutral on him if he brought his bat and was a piss poor defender, but right now he has no bat and is a piss poor defender, which means he is a liability everywhere. You aren't going to get a decent 2B anymore this season, so why not put Santiago there in the interim so at least a few outs and singles will come from the 2b roster spot. Guillen has been a joke of injuries and inconsistency the last 2 or 3 years and it is time to cut ties with him. Magglio and Guillen are going to be updating resumes this offseason.

solid signings, with LeShoure out and Morris with a broken hand, these two guys can spell Best for a few plays.

Solid outing by JV, Raburn effed up JV's numbers, but another solid effort. On the day that CC tanked, JV tied him in wins and is leading CC in IP, Ks, ERA, and WHIP. Texas choked today and robbed us of a 5 game lead. Need to get a W tomorrow before the day off and then go to Cleveland to scalp some Indians. booyah

I wish we had Norm Cash instead of Brad Penny... bad joke, I know, but Penny is spiraling downward with no end in sight. I think Turner earned another look with his start last week.

Fister looked solid. Nice to see Avila start to perk up a little bit. And with another Cleveland loss, the Tigers stretch their division lead to 4 games. Funny how winning games keeps that lead up, we should try to keep doing that.

A little hairy there at the end, but Boesch pulls us out with a late homer for the win. With a Cleveland walk-off loss today against the Red Sox, the Tigers have a 3 game lead in the Central. I think that is the biggest lead we have had this season. Looking forward to seeing what Fister can do with an offense behind him now.

Game lived up to the hype, and Weaver threw a hissy fit when Maggs and Guillen smoked him. Right after the Guillen homer, the home plate ump warned both benches because of the chatter between Weaver and the Det bench. Next pitch for Weaver was right at Avila's head, and he was subsequently tossed from the game, once again throwing a hissy fit.

It is Furbush, Wells, and Francisco Martines (3b prospect) and possibly a player to be named later. In return we get LHP Fister and RHP Pauley. Fister's record is deceiving, he is 3-12 but has gotten nothing for run support this year from the M's. His ERA is 3.33 and is 3-12? Should be a solid #3 or #4 for us. Move Penny down to #5.

per Freep.com: Because he's out of options, struggling left-handed reliever David Purcey can't be sent to the minors without clearing waivers. So if the Tigers wanted to send him to Toledo to work on his control, they would have to give every other team in the majors a chance to claim him on waivers. Considering that Purcey is left-handed and doesn't make a lot of money, it's a reasonable guess that someone would take a chance on him. And then the Tigers would have nothing to show for trading infielder Scott Sizemore, who has fit in well in the Oakland lineup.

I almost think it would be worth trading Turner if we could get Jimenez. We have a young staff minus Penny, and we can always get surprised by Oliver or get another pitcher next season in Penny's place. Verlander is 28, he has a good 10-12 years left, Scherzer is 27, Porcello is 22, Jimenez is 27. I would trade Turner for Jimenez at this point.

not at all. Top priority is CB and LB. They will get a linemen if they see a good deal, but they are not actively looking to add one. We are scraping the bottom of the barrel for CB and LB. We have one starting LB right now and a couple throw-aways at CB, so that is what the Lions are going to aggressively try to upgrade.
