What happened to Alfie??
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but the $2.3 number comes with accepting Alfies whole $5.5 right? Only $3.5 should be counted up front so technically shouldn't our number be closer to $4.3 right now? I'm totally with you on Samuelsson!!

signed Wings sign Stephen Weiss, 5-years, $24.5m
MileHighWingsGuy replied to Matt's topic in General
Can definitely live with that. Good signing. -
Even if he signs on the high side of $6Mill we should have roughly $3.5Mill left right?
-
Without a trade, probably now true if Weiss did indeed sign, sounds like he did.
-
I'll take whatever optimism we can find at this point. TSN talking a lot about Wings/Weiss not so much about Brunner.

signed Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

Disagree, we have more than 7.5 after Alfie, and you are boosting the value of our RFA pool cost. We can still fit Brunner and Weiss under the cap with who we have. A trade would free up funds to solidify the defense IMO. -
signed Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

I love the thought of Alfredsson for Cleary hate it if its Alfredsson for Brunner. I can live with Alfredsson, Weiss and Brunner as our signings if that's what plays out. -

TSN reported 3.5 will count against this year and the remaining 2 would fall on next year. Still trying to figure the CBA rules. -
Wish we could give Brunner Sammy's money and just be done with him. So much dead money on a few unproductive players.

I don't mind Alfredsson but we need Brunner and another big name signed...feel free to lose the dead wood at anytime. -
I've been wondering that for about a month now. Truth is, if Holland hasn't signed him by now someone else will. He's the one signing I'm really pissed about. Young talented kid on the rise, loves the Wings wants a long term deal and somehow he manages to hit the free agency mark. That's just really, really bad management. He'd be signed right after Datsyuk if I was Kenny and the kid would know we love him and want him to be around for a long time.
-
I've been waiting all day for the Brunner news, man I hope they sign this kid!!!
-
Maybe we can just bank our extra cap room this year since we seem determined everyone in the NHL wants too much money...Flip, Brunner, Lacavalier, Horton, Weiss, Clarkson, Bozak...at some point we'll readjust to the value the market has on talent or we'll watch Datsyuk in amazement as he skates with the Samuelssons, Cleary's and Tootoo's of the world.
-
I'm so done with this...I'm sure this weekend I'll read Brunner has signed for $3.5Mill somewhere else, Holland will whine about the cap and spending money while Samuelsson, Cleary, Tootoo, Bertuzzi remain on the roster. Whatever, just field the same team and act shocked when we miss the playoffs Ken.
-
Well we did get some playoff value out of Quincey this last year all the others rode the bench collecting a salary KH signed them to while we lost to Chicago. Some of us would like to change what didn't work last year and perhaps get some production...Understand??
-
You aint alone, should have been taken care of LOOOONNNGGG ago, somehow Miller and others took priority.
-
THIS!!! I was typing this same sentiment on another thread about the time you were typing this.
-
That's exactly what I mean. We have accumulated too many decent players at fair salary's (some not so fair). I'd gladly give up 3 of these guys to get a playmaker up front on our club. The names aren't important to me, the talent is. Everyone whines about $6Mill per year yet we pay that to three guys, most of whom will ride the pine all year. We will play lowball games with Brunner and lose him while securing Cleary for the next three years. I just don't get what we are doing.
-
If he doesn't sign by Friday he's gone. Other teams aren't overpaying they are placing a value on talent that we don't. When Brunner signs for $3.5Mill somewhere else its going to break my heart.
-
I think we need to consolidate some of the 16 forwards on the roster to obtain higher quality talent to help push us over the edge. I mean really 16 guys under contract (if Cleary and Brunner sign)?? Yes spend a little money on one or two guys that are difference makers and you can pare down on some of the 16 reasonably priced guys.
-
Paying too much isn't the issue, paying too much to players who KH overvalues is. We could have had two dynamic players inserted in our offense if we wanted to...easily. Samuelsson ($3M) + Cleary ($3M) = Clarkson Tootoo ($1.9M) + Bertuzzi (2.07M) +Eaves ($1.2M) = Lecavalier

Imagine if our GM had leveraged some of the talent at the junior level to actually secure a player that would have pushed us over the edge in the Chicago series. If winning a Calder Cup is the goal Kenny succeeded. I could care less about it personally or about the successes we have at lower levels if it doesn't translate on the level that matters. We have too much talent and too many players that will never see the ice. I'd rather leverage some of that talent to secure something that would help us now.
-
I don't think there is an overreaction on the forum for the lack of leadership our GM has shown during the past 4-5 years. People are frustrated and rightly so, we are close to having a great team yet now seem content to sign washed up veterans that fail to contribute and fail to sign guys that might push us over the edge. I completely agree with RB its great we have guys coming up that will compete, it does us no good the next few years and when that talent is here Dats and our studs will be non-factors. Some people get so caught up in the cap and payroll they fail to see where we are failing in the free agent market. Paying Cleary $3mill just shows we aren't serious about skating the best team possible. Holland has been a no show for many years in my opinion.

Wings buy out Colaiacovo, will keep Bertuzzi

Vinny at 4.5 was too steep but Cleary at $3 is OK.... got it Kenny
