    Holland's deadline moves..

Not to mention that Franzen only has 1 year left on his deal. He'll be due for a big jump in pay if this keeps up. I wouldn't expect a ton during the offseason since they're going to want to make sure they have room to keep Sasha and The Mule.

    Holland's deadline moves..

I was one of the people on the "We Have To Get A Forward!!!" bandwagon. I still think at the time, it was sound reasoning. Franzen had 12 goals and at the time hadn't scored in two weeks. March rolls around and he pots 14 goals and hasn't slowed down since. There's just no way anyone could have suspected that he had a run like this in him. The biggest reason that not getting a forward has worked out to this point (aside from getting to play Jose Theodore) is because Johan Franzen is playing like a superstar. If Holland saw it coming, then we should win the Cup every year because that's some crystal ball he's got. I think it's absolutely shocking what The Mule has done in the last two months. If he didn't make The Leap, I do think we would have been in trouble offensively. It'll be interesting to see if this scoring boom for the team continues when we face Turco--who has been playing outstanding hockey--or if it was mainly due to the fact that Theodore is horrid. Depending on what they were asking for, he was probably right to not go big on Hossa (though if we lose to the Pens in the Finals and Hossa is a big reason why, I might change my mind) but I still think grabbing Prospal or Fedorov would've been a great move. Fedorov was pretty good in Washington and Prospal has been absolutely great for Philly. Neither one cost anything really. We haven't needed a forward since Franzen went nuts. If he kept playing the way he had all season to that point, I wouldn't be feeling nearly as good about our chances....

WCSF Game 4 GDT: Red Wings 8, Avalanche 2

So 8 more goals for Mule to tie the NHL record for a postseason. Somewhere between 4-14 games left. This team really can't be beaten if they keep playing like this. I'm sad this series is over so I can't bet against Jose Theodore (and hit the "over") anymore....
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/recap?gameId=280429017 First off, you completely contradicted yourself. Did you "barely touch him" or did you make him bleed? Do you think he knocked his own tooth out to "make it look good"? Secondly, where the hell do you get off criticizing ANYONE for "selling a call"? If someone knocked out your tooth, not only would you miss 3 weeks, but you'd be wearing a Dan Cleary facemask when you came back. Go tear your groin again you pathetic piece of crap. What a ****** bag.

Where the hell does Forsberg get off.....

You want to see a dive..... The replay around the 41 second mark is kind of amazing. Sammy also hasn't punched a goalie in the balls, but that's another story...

Yup! Babs rules. I was so, so happy when they dumped Lewis for him. This team is amazing when they "play the right way".

    2008 NFL Draft Thread

Wouldn't shock me if you did. Late in the regular season I was watching something on ESPN and it said the Wings were up 1-0 on the bottom line. I ran out for a few minutes and when I got home I put the Wings game on and it was 0-0. And I don't think we had had a goal waived off. I was confused. My favorite bottom line moment was when I was watching a race on ESPN2 that they were showing on tape delay and the results of the race came across on the ticker with about 10 laps to go.

    Brett Favre Retires

Even with Brohm on the roster, Rodgers is still better off than he was last year at this time right? Instead of being the talented backup and having the iron man, Favre, in front of him, he's now the starting QB with a talented backup behind him. I doubt he thinks it's personal. The Packers clearly needed a backup QB and actually, having a 2nd round draft pick rookie behind him is probably less threatening than if they were to go grab a former starter to back him up. Rodgers has 3 years in the system, learning from the master. This is his team as long as he performs. And if he doesn't, he'd get replaced sooner or later anyway. At least this way, we've got a very talented Plan B who could be trade bait in a couple years if he proves to be a good player as well. Honestly, there's a part of me that wants to see Brohm end up as the starter. I LOVE this kid and it's fun to have a Louisville QB that I've been watching for a few years. But I do think Rodgers is going to be a very solid QB in the NFL.

    Brett Favre Retires

Every team needs to have a backup quarterback. GB has had an incredible run of luck with Favre starting every game for like 16 years. I'd bet dollars to donuts that Rodgers doesn't start every game next season, due to injury. When you've got a chance to land a talent like Brohm at pick 56 it's stupid not to. Best Player Available is the way to draft and QB was a need for the Packers anyway. It's not that they don't think Rodgers is good. It's that Brohm is a darn fine football player and you need more than ONE quarterback on their roster. BTW, JT O'Sullivan? Been there, done that. Rodgers shouldn't be pissed. It's a business move. You can't go into a season with one quarterback, especially when said QB has been injury prone in his career thusfar. Should GB have taken a less-talented quarterback just so Rodgers wouldn't feel threatened? That doesn't make much sense. Competition is a good thing. These guys will push each other. I still can't believe Brohm fell past Chicago.

If you're the Bears, how on earth do you pass on Brohm and Henne? I know they still needed a RB, but ummm....are you really going to start Rex Grossman again this year? They had 2 great QBs fall into their lap and they passed on both of them. Smaaaart.

Joel Q hints at Game 3 goalie

What's great is that when you write it off to Franzen's "stick being hot" it doesn't give any indication that you think you can stop it. I honestly can't believe the way Franzen has transformed right before our eyes. He had like 12 goals! Then he goes off for 22 in 24 games? What. The. Hell. Not that I'm complaining by any stretch of the imagination! This team is so fun to watch when they "play the right way" (to use a Larry Brown term)

WCSF Game 2 GDT: Red Wings 5, Avalanche 1

Was it in 6? I didn't hear it, but I read somewhere he said Avs in 5 because Theodore is the best goalie in the playoffs. I suppose it could still happen (in six) but it was absurd to praise Theodore as much as he apparently did. Congrats, he shut down the WILD. Yippee do dah. Now watch him come out and get a shutout in game 3 to shut us all up. :-P Hopefully the Wings come out with a little better effort on the road than they did last series. If they keep playing like they have been, this one is done in four (or five at absolute most). They looked SO good today. Offense put up 5 goals with the "secondary scoring" accounting for four of them. Defense barely let the Avs near our net and Ozzie made the saves he needed to make even though he probably could've left the net to go get some of that deeeelicious Joe Louis Little Caesar's Pizza in between shots a couple of times there. No one in the league touches this team if they keep playing like that.
  16. I'm just looking at this as a win/win. I'm aggravated to no end that they have to win 3 of 4 now to win this series, but if they lose, Saunders is gone and that's pretty great. But it's not just him. Maybe losing in the first round would be the kick in the ass that this team needs to realize that they aren't God's gift to basketball and that winning one title doesn't mean that they crap rainbows and puppies. They're so frustrating. There's no way this should even be a series. I don't know if Laimbeer will be a great coach in the NBA, though I do think he'll get a shot eventually. What I do know is that this team wouldn't pull nearly as much of their s*** if he was coaching because he'd just kick their asses. The other option would be Tom Izzo. He might not do great in the NBA, but it'd piss off the State fans, so that'd be pretty funny

Kevin Newsome U of M QB recruit

I haven't checked it out, but someone was saying that Tate Forcier was commenting on Newsome's Myspace that it would be sweet if they went to U of M together and did the Leak/Tebow thing. So it looks like another 4 star QB could be headed Michigan's way. I love that he's a pass-first guy even though he runs a 4.5....sounds like a perfect fit for the system. Too bad he has another year of high school.

    2007 Green Bay Packers Thread

This is why I love having a top-notch GM. Deshawn Jackson, Devin Thomas (when we were picking 30th), Sweed, Doucet...all these "name" WRs can be on the board, he can nab a white guy from KState and I still have no doubt that he picked the right guy. It amazes me that people at the Packers Draft Party can get upset about TT picks after what he's done for this team. I want to know how many of those people who were booing also booed the Jennings pick a couple years ago, since we traded out of the pick that was used on Chad Jackson. I love TT. I'm a huge fan of the draft so far. I don't know much about Nelson, but he was very productive in college this year (122 catches, 1,600+ yards, 11 Tds), he's got great size, he's got speed, he looks like a good route runner, and he absolutely TORCHED Talib from Kansas when they played this year. Always a good sign when he fares well against top competition. Also seems like he could help on special teams. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Brohm pick. Like Rodgers, this was another kid that was at one time thought of as the likely #1 pick in his draft. He had a down year this year due to a s***ty offensive line, some injury problems, and a jackass coach, but he was fantastic his first three years. I was born in Louisville and my mom went there, so I follow their team pretty closely. The only concern is that Louisville has had a few good QBs (Redman, Ragone) and none of them have really panned out. Brohm seems like a perfect fit for our offense. I wouldn't have been overly thrilled if we had taken him at 30 (before we traded the pick) or 36, but at 56 he was an absolute steal. I'm shocked that Chicago passed on both he and Henne to reach for a RB. Brohm is a great insurance plan in case Rodgers struggles or gets injured (the latter of which wouldn't be remotely shocking). With the way the Lions, Vikings, and Bears have struggled to find QBs, I love that we took another top prospect just in case. Then they filled a need with a corner that I don't know much about. Good size, good speed and he sounds like he's more than willing to get his nose dirty and get in WR faces. We really needed to draft a corner since Harris and Woodson are getting up there and we could definitely stand to replace Bush. Hopefully they got themselves a good one. In TT I trust! Did I mention I love that we got Brian Brohm?

Probably more likely because he's small and he's slow....

    Brett Favre Retires

That was 100% the right move for the Packers. I don't think I would've liked it had they drafted Brohm at 30 or 36, but at 56 they had to take him. I don't see it as an indictment on Rodgers that they took Brohm. At the start of today, Rodgers was the only QB that GB had under contract. They need a backup and, let's face it, Rodgers hasn't been the model of perfect health. They get a QB that seems to be a perfect fit for the WC Offense and had he come out last year would've very possibly been the second QB taken. It might be coach/GM speak, but McCarthy and Thompson were pretty clear that even though they took Brohm, they're convinced Rodgers is their guy. But it's nice to have a safety net just in case. When I look at how bad the Bears, Lions and Vikings have struggled to find QBs, I have no problem with GB picking up a very talented player that fell into their lap. Honestly, I was shocked that Chicago passed on Henne and Brohm. I think it's hilarious that they did, but I'm shocked.

Joel Q hints at Game 3 goalie

I said almost the same exact thing on another board, except I think I went with a Roy-Sawchuk-Hasek hybrid It doesn't really matter who they put in net if they can't find some offense. What'd they have today? Ten shots through two periods? Apart from when he got undressed by Zetterberg, I'm not sure I heard Sakic's name the entire game. I know I didn't hear Hejdrunk's. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Theodore has now lost thirteen straight 2nd round games. Quinnville, please DON'T make a goalie change

WCSF Game 2 GDT: Red Wings 5, Avalanche 1

Nobody in the league beats this team if they keep playing like that. If I would've known Franzen was going to score 22 goals in 24 games, I woudn't have been so dead-set on us needing a forward at the deadline. What the hell happened to that guy? He's absolutely amazing. He batted that puck out of the air TWICE on his third goal. That's some hand-eye coordination. How on earth is Quinnville not going to put Budaj in for game 3? Theodore has been awful. Not that I'm complaining.... Has anyone on the telecast called out Barry Melrose for his "Theodore is the best goalie in the playoffs" prediction yet? By the way, we're now 5-0 in the playoffs in games I haven't watched live. Not only am I helping the team, watching on the DVR allows me to easily tune out Mike Milbury and Pierre MacGuire, so that's fun too.

    Brett Favre Retires

It's still so hard to accept that he retired. I'm still firmly on the "I hope he comes back" bandwagon, but I do think Rodgers will be a fine quarterback in this league. I think you can read into a lot of what he said, but to me the one moment where I was like "Ohhhhh he might come back" was his reaction to Dave reminding him that he's only 38.... That said, I still think he's done for good...and it's a bummer. Draft is tomorrow!!
