    2/29 GDT: Sharks 2, Red Wings 2

Michigan lost a point against Miami for the same thing. Maybe they should put some slack in the netting so that the puck doesn't just bounce off it back onto the ice. Make it more loose so that it obviously dies when it hits the net. Or move the net back a few feet so that it rolls right down to the bottom, rather than back onto the ice. That's funny....

Good stuff, we're getting some guys back, Stuart is in the lineup...I actually like our chances tonight. It seems like half the people that were traded had impacts in their first game, so I'm putting my bet on a 1-2--3 line for Stuart tonight and the Wings win 4-1. Hopefully between a Wings win and a CCHA Championship for Michigan it'll be a good night in the hockey world!

He'll also throw in a lie or two and dodge the question when someone asks him where's the top six forward he's been saying we need. What a joke. I can't believe he's spooked on deadline deals because one guy we gave up turned into a great OHL player. He could've gotten Prospal without any trouble. I mean, I hope like hell that Flip snaps out of it, Cleary comes back healthy, and Hudler proves to be capable in the playoffs...but it's hard to see us coming through the West with the 2-4th lines the way they are right now. Stuart helps a little, but he doesn't fix the hole on this team.

A lot of teams have made that mistake unfortunately. He does improve our defense corps. He's better than Lilja and Meech for sure. But I don't like going into the playoffs with Samuelsson, and injured Cleary, a guy who has been invisible for the better part of a month and a half, and a guy we were scared to play in road playoff games (Hudler) as part of the 7 best forwards on the team. It's unreal we didn't get a forward. I don't even know how that's possible.

"Well uh...we had a price we were willing to pay and we couldn't...uhh...find anyone else that made sense for us. We didn't want anyone with term. We didn't want to give away any of our top prospects. I like our team. And uhh...term. Term. Term. Term."

He wouldn't have had to give up the farm to get Prospal. Hossa, I agree. He would've been really nice, but Pitt gave up quite a bit to get him, not sure we could've matched that. But we could've easily matched/bettered that offer for Prospal and he would've helped us. It's unreal that we couldn't even get a Fedorov or Fedotenko at the deadline. When your team is this close to winning a Cup you have to take a chance. You can't be scared off deadline deals because Shawn Matthias MIGHT turn into a decent player. We're half-assing it. Maybe we'll end up winning. Maybe not. But we didn't maximize our chance to have a successful run. At least we kept Justin Abdelkader

Goin' out on a limb there. No one saw Stuart to the Wings coming. Add it to your sig when you bring it back. There better be a forward coming as well....

Yeah, who wants a Cup anyway? We might half-ass it this year, but at least we can still have Justin Abdelkader to be Maltby's replacement! Woooooooooooo! Gotta go for it when the window is open. And since he's the best GM in the league and all, he could just replace these prospects anyway with another brilliant draft.

The fact that the Wings haven't "settled" for someone like Fedotenko still makes me believe we're a player for Hossa. Get it done Kenny. Seriously.

If they were serious about Emery not being on the ice (I realize they made a joke about him being late), that could be interesting since someone from hockeybuzz (not eklund) is saying the Sens are interested in Khabibulin. Take it for what it's worth, but Eklund is saying he might go to Boston for Kessel (e3). That'd be kind of dirty if the Hawks had Kessel, Toews, and Kane.

Can you let me in on why you'd be so excited about him? I'm preparing myself for him being the guy and I'd like to enjoy the experience. I guess there's something to be said for "Better than Lilja" but....

Put it this way. If we want a defensive defenseman, why are we going after Brad Stuart? That's not a guy that has defense written all over him. If you want another offensive defenseman (which is what Stuart is, don't kid yourself--he can't play D) for when Kronwall gets hurt again, Preissing is a helluva lot better. Actually, I like the idea of Preissing less since he's signed for 3 more years and would probably cost more because of it. For some reason I thought he was on a one year deal. It's not that I really want Preissing. I just don't really see any point to Brad Stuart unless they're giving him away. And there's no player I could've mentioned that should elicit a reaction like that when you're comparing him to Brad ******* Stuart. Calm down.

I'd love to see Fedorov back here but not as our only move. I do think he'd help us, but he won't fix the problems this team has. Plus it'd be fun to see how many times FSN spells his name Federov on the ticker. That's always high comedy. I'm biased, but I'd love to see Cammi here. That would probably warrant a jersey purchase. Gotta say, I'd rather have Preissing than Stuart if LA is moving a defenseman. Just don't be SCARED to make a move. These prices aren't that bad. You can't be afraid that the prospect you're giving up MIGHT turn into a player. Especially when the teams around us are improving. It doesn't make any sense to half-ass this season so you can keep a couple guys who aren't really can't-miss anyway.
  20. Packer487

    Holland: "There WILL be moves."

If Holland is telling the truth, and he doesn't make a move for a legit second line player, it's clear he's completely scared based on the Bertuzzi deal last year. As it is, this team more than likely doesn't win the Stanley Cup. Anaheim is right there with us, Dallas has improved. We'll have a chance, but we clearly won't be the favorite anymore. I understand that you don't want to go Pierre Lacroix and completely sell off every player in your organization, but you have to take a chance when the window is open. There are very, very few players in our organization that are can't-miss guys. We're not talking about Ovechkins. Howard looks like a player. I didn't see a ton of the last couple games but people seem to think Ericsson looks like a stud, so include him if you want. Apart from that? These aren't guys who we should be above moving in the right deal. It doesn't make any sense to me to sit by with your thumb up your butt when you're this close to having a phenomenal shot to win the Cup. "We're going to take a half-assed shot at this, but at least we'll have Justin Abdelkader." Come on. You can't puss out on future deadline deals because Shawn Matthias MIGHT turn into a decent hockey player. Especially since Holland is the OMG BEST GM EVAR. He should be able to replace these prospects in our organization no sweat since ever pick he makes turns to gold. If he surprises us with a big move, obviously you can ignore the above. I'm going on the assumption that he's telling the truth in that interview, but we all know that GMs lie sometimes.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

It blows my mind the way Wings fans get so defensive when someone says they don't think Holland is the best GM ever. I'm completely with you on this one. He's not bad, but people call him the best in the game, and I'm really not sure why. Hopefully he pulls out something great tomorrow. We need it.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Rough transcript of the interview--nothing really new: Flip rumors: "As of right now, it's baloney. Lots of false rumors out there. Nothing's happened yet. I'd be very surprised if that trade goes down. Not going to trade Flip for a rental [god dammit he wouldn't be a rental]. Not a good chance of signing hossa long-term due to needing to sign Z. [except the cap keeps going up]" Sundin: "Don't think that'll happen but I think there's a better chance of that than getting Hossa. Sundin wants to stay in Toronto it looks like. But getting closer to the deadline, maybe he'll reconsider. If he does, he has a NTC, and Detroit would be at the top of his list." Sundin: "Wouldn't be willing to give a lot because he's a rental. Won't trade a top prospect for a guy like that. Maybe a fringe prospect + pick. Similar to bertuzzi thing last year. Definitely won't give up a 1st rounder for a rental." Fedorov: "Out of all the players out there he might be the most realistic. Not the player he was but he's still effective. Could put him on the 3rd or 4th line and play a role. If they don't get Feds at the deadline, I think there's a very good chance he signs as a FA. It depends if CLB decides to be a seller or not. It's important for them to make the playoffs, so they won't jump the gun. Can't imagine the wings would give more than a mid round pick for him. Just depends if someone outbids them." Kaberle: "I doubt it. Cost too much. They're banged up but the defense is fine. Need another scoring winger. They're concerned about secondary scoring because it's really fallen off with Flip, Huds, and Sammy slumping. On defense they might add a veteran #6/7 guy for depth. I don't see them making a big run at a top 4 guy" Steve Staios/older player who can be a 4th/5th guy: "Depth guy would be what they're looking for. Would like some size and abrasiveness but every team wants that. Staios is signed through 2012 so he's not going anywhere. They really need Danny Markov. He's gone for good though. It was a mistake by him not to take the Wings contract offer. He thought he could do better on the market, but couldn't and now he's in russia for less money than he'd be making here." Brad Stuart: "Possible. Modry cost a 3rd rounder. Stuart is better. 2nd rounder or more. Lots of competition for a guy like that who might not even be that good. Looks better compared to the guys out there. There's a chance but I don't think that's their focus." Fedotenko/Prospal: "Don't know about Fedotenko. Prospal is someone that's a possibility. He and his coach don't get along so there's a good chance he will be moved. He's probably on the radar." Most likely to be a Wing: Fedorov Mac will sign by the end of the week. Will stay in GR for 2 weeks on a conditioning stint. He'll be with the big club for the last month. Doesn't mean he'll play.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

I don't think Hossa's been that bad in the playoffs. He started off slow--four points in the first 14 playoff games of his career, but since then he's had like 31 points in 41 games. That's pretty solid. You gotta think of a deal for him as like when we picked up Shanny. I didn't really like Primeau, but that's beside the point. We gave up quite a bit to get him and it was worth every bit of it. We all have our favorites and it sucks when they get traded. But there's NO comparing Flip and Hossa as players. Hossa is a bonafide 90-100 point guy, he's been solid in the playoffs, and he's kind of the type of player we need. Flip is pretty good, I like the kid a lot and I think he has some potential, but you never know how much more he'll improve. Hossa already IS great. The guy was traded straight up for Heatley and since then all he's done is put up 92 and 100 points. He's down a little this year but he's still on pace for like what? 75? And now he's not worth Filppula? C'mon.
