WCF Game 6 (5/22) GDT: Red Wings @ Ducks - 9 PM ET

These people that don't want Dom back next year because he *might* get hurt...exactly who the f*** do you want in our net instead? There's no one that we could acquire that will do better. He's been almost perfectly healthy this year so far, so it obviously means that it can be done. Franchise goalies don't grow on trees. We lost our chance at having one long-term when we decided not to make an offer for Luongo. I mean hell...."I don't want him back because I don't like his style"...With 95% of the goalies in the league, this team would be golfing right now. It's worth the heart attack when he tries to play the puck.

That's a good sign since he likes to score goals to save our season. It'd be nice if one of the EuroTwins would do something. Buuuut it's a road game. -Tim

    WCF Post-GAME 5 (5/20): Ducks 2, Red Wings 1 (OT)

We're still fine. This team just needs to realize they've outplayed Anaheim 3 straight games now, and unfortunately we're 1-2 in that span. It's not like we're getting it handed to us by a better team. They're good, but we're outplaying them badly. Stop shooting at Giguere's chest. Go high glove. When you throw it cross-crease, one time it (Samuelsson!). Detroit's been the better team. Just keep doing what we're doing and it'll be fine. We just need to win one game on the road and we're coming home for game 7. It's not that complicated. I still can't believe how predictable that call on Datsyuk was. -Tim

By the way, studio guys, let me just say that if that was a good call on Datsyuk, then Anaheim should be called for interference on EVERY ******* DUMP-IN WHEN THEY RUN OUR PLAYER INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE ICE. This s*** is so predictable. -Tim

I wish we could've declined that power play. You knew there was no way we were scoring, and you knew that they were going to give Anaheim one, with a chance to play 6 on 4. Giguere's OT record scares me.... -Tim

I have never been a Hasek fan

I think there's a lot of goalies who wouldn't have allowed us to get past the Flames, and even more who wouldn't have allowed us to get past the Sharks. Dom gives this team that swagger they've been missing. He's the guy that makes teams think, "Oh s***" when they have to face him. He's the type of goalie that we as fans are always pissed that the Wings seem to draw. I feel that he brings out the best in this team. They play better in front of him because they know that he's got their back if they make a mistake. It's a lot easier to play loose when you aren't scared to make a mistake. I think we'd be golfing right now if Osgood was in net for us. Just the same as I think we'd be golfing if we still had Legace, or Cujo, or had picked up Gerber, Cloutier, or Belfour, or all but about 5 or 6 goalies in the league. And it's not a knock on any of them. It's the amount of respect that I have for the San Jose Sharks (and the amount of respect that I have for Kipper as a goalie). And it's the amount of respect that I have for the play of Dominik Hasek. All 3 of the teams that we've played are extremely tough outs. Calgary was an 8-seed with one of the best goalies in hockey, San Jose may have been the best team in hockey, and if they aren't then Anaheim probably is (Red Wings excluded in this mix). It's a lot different than playing the Islanders, Rangers, and Senators...I'll tell ya that much. We're extremely fortunate that Hasek is around. I've been saying it since last summer...he's the only goalie on the market (Luongo excluded, who we never made an offer for) that could give us a chance to win the Cup this year. Hopefully he makes me feel smart. -Tim

Hey, I will when he deserves it. But the guy hasn't played a game in what? A month and a half--and he was pretty decent down the stretch (especially against Nashville). No sense in taking cheap shots for no reason, especially since he's a pretty likable guy when he's not throwing up his arms at his defensemen after a goal. Like I said...he ain't as good as Hasek, but you could say that about pretty much everyone in the league. The guy is the best goalie of his era, and he's put up sparkling numbers so far in the playoffs. We could have Brick McWall in front of our goal and some people would rag on him for giving up too many rebounds. -Tim

I have never been a Hasek fan

I don't even mean this as a rip on Osgood (because you could say this about 90% of the goalies in the league and it would still ring true), but if you'd prefer him in net over Hasek, you need to get your head examined. Like I said in the other thread, based on a very quick look at the stats this year, Osgood allowed 4+ goals six times. Hasek did it 7 (in many more starts). Ozzie's most definitely not the model of consistency you make him out to be. Dom's had a few average games in these playoffs and one or two bad ones. It's impossible to go through a 16 game stretch (which hopefully will end up being around 24 games or so) and be at your absolute best every single night when you're playing good teams all the time. Those guys on the Flames, Sharks, and Ducks are paid to play hockey too and some of them are pretty damn good at it. We've had the hardest route (by far) to the Final Four of any team in the league, and in getting here we beat (IMO) the best team in hockey (apart from us, of course) and now we're facing (again, IMO) the second best team in the league. You're not going to win every series 4-0 and every game isn't going to be a shutout. These are good hockey teams. They're going to score some goals. As it is, he's giving up well under two goals per game, and that will win you a Stanley Cup. We've been tied 2-2 in two other series, and after that point, Hasek is 4-0 and has given up 3 goals TOTAL. We're fine. Edited for clarification on a couple of points. -Tim

Fire Millen! sign at end of the game 4

Another person like myself who moved to Wisconsin from Troy, MI huh? That's cool. Twas indeed. Doesn't merit a response really. I started a Packers topic in the "Other Sports" area. -Tim

Fire Millen! sign at end of the game 4

That's fair, if he told actually told Favre that. The way I look at it is this: The defense is going to be VERY good this year. In adding Harrell, they may have gotten the pocket collapsing DT that will be perfect playing next to Picket. The defensive line with Kampman and Jenkins on the outside, and KGB coming in on passing downs should be excellent. Harrell will help keep the linemen off our very fast linebackers, and we've got two of the best corners in the game, who will only be helped by an upgraded pass rush. Favre will love playing with a shorter field more often. And it's not like he didn't add a running back in the 2nd round and a WR in the 3rd. Plus we get Koren Robinson back for almost an entire season. Jennings is healthy and Martin & Holiday looked outstanding in the last couple games last year. As long as the offensive line improved (which SHOULD be the case), we should be juuuuust fine on offense. That'll allow the TE to get back into patterns again and I can't imagine Bubba will have another year as bad as last year was. And when Rodgers steps in finally, he's going to have a dominating defense to play with. TT has done a great job building that up. It may not be as sexy as scoring 35 points per game, but defense still wins championships. Especially since we won't be lucky enough to face Rex Grossman for the Super Bowl -Tim

Fire Millen! sign at end of the game 4

By "what he's done" you mean "build what has the potential to be a dominating defense", right? He screwed up by not getting Moss. But he's done a nice job revamping the defense. Favre might be hacked that he didn't "add any playmakers", but I have to believe the offensive line will be better next year (all those young guys got in the weight room, plus everyone's had a year in the zone blocking system now) and that alone should allow Bubba Franks to get back into the offense. The RB we took out of Nebraska, Jackson, is supposed to be an ideal fit for the scheme we run. People flip out too much about that 4-12 season. It had to happen at some point, and it was because Mike Sherman tanked about 3 drafts in a row so there's no core of players just entering the prime of their careers (who should be the key part of our team). TT has done a great job cleaning up Sherman's mess. Give the man time. -Tim

    Babcock's Fault

You mean the shot through multiple screens? Yeah, should've nabbed that one. I can't believe that you're using Osgood as an example of the model of consistency. And since you just dropped the "you should never have to score 5 goals to win" argument in conjunction with your "I wish they went with Osgood" argument, I'd like to point out that there were 6 times this year Ozzie gave up 4+ in a game. It happened to Dom 7 times. And Dom obviously played a lot more. (Note: I did this really quickly because it doesn't warrant me spending a half hour on it...I just went with the goalie of record and counted all the goals against him. If someone got yanked, or there was an empty netter or something that skewed it, my bad. I counted OT Losses, but not situations where the shootout was the 4th goal. Even if the data would get changed slightly by a deeper analysis, I feel that the point still stands.) -Tim

I have never been a Hasek fan

In honor of the original poster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7e6yEacAguk Seriously, this is the worst thread ever. Hasek is the problem? Until last night his GAA was like 1.5! His save percentage was like 93%. Quite frankly, he's the biggest reason that we're even in the conference final. I won't address the Osgood stuff because I don't really want to start a war but I don't even think the most loyal Osgood fans would try to say that we'd be better off with him in net. That's just completely and utterly asinine. He had an average game instead of a great one. And I'll tell you think much, if we win game 5, this thing is over in 6, because Dom is MONEY in elimination games (7-0 as a Wing, with a sub 1.00 goals against). Take a ******* pill, good God. -Tim
