Players like Helm and Abby are what teams need for their 3rd and 4th line these days. Guys who can skate, play good D annd chip in a goal every so often. With a few more years under their belts they are gonna be the gritty vets we need. Hopefuly though they start to get more of an edge to their game.

They have to get rid of a few players come next season because of their cap issue might as well make it worth it. Im sure they can give up a few players and hold onto their picks, hell maybe even get a pick off ATL. Greedy not stupid IMO. He knows he can take less but doesn't want to according to all the rumors. Someone will pay him big bucks I think the question now becomes, will it be an NHL team or a KHL team?

I don't want Leino because of the way he talks to the media about not having to go hard or battle in the corners. People that don't want to battle should not be on this team.

I just hope they dont start clicking. Its not the D that needed the help its their offense and if those new guys start to gel then yeah, its gonna be fun the next 2 months.

Since I think Holland is a wait and see kind of guy I would think he makes him the 7th D switching places with Ericsson or Lebda every other game or so.

Missing almost a whole year after just starting to find his game/potential is gonna take more then 5 games to get back into speed.

This year yes he is turn over central, but last year SCF he was a force playing with Lidstrom. IMO he was playing damn near his full potential.

Flip reminds me of Kozlov in a way. Has good two-way ability and seems to kick it up a level come playoff time. The only issue now is actually getting to the playoffs this year. I truly think if didn't get injured he would of had a better season as its taking him some time to get into mid season form. As someone else said in this thread we are missing a sniper. Its funny how Zetty went from being a 35+ goal scorer to more of a play maker. If we can get Hudler back or a player like him, a line with Hudler-Flip-Bert would be a great second line.

I thought Williams had a good record in the SO? Anyway, I am pretty sure Flip was next but I hate it that they have to go in order and coaches cannot switch up their order on the fly. As far as using Williams second yeah, I would of used someone else.

Spot on, Calgary is taking care of their scoring issue with adding some depth. Losing while Calgary was in the mid of their 8 game losing streak and LA having a few bad games was the biggest ball drop of all season long. We could of had at least a 2 or 4 points cushion on Calgary right now and fighting with LA for the next spot in the standings.

They don't have a month they have a week at best. People think we have time to turn things around but time is up. If we don't put some regulation wins together the playoffs will be hard to see. Now with Calgary re-tooling its gonna be that much harder.

Not his fault they didnt start to play till the 3rd. He didn't blow anything the Wings just didn't care.

Cant really rebuild when most of the core is still signed up long term. Also the only thing we could do to make this team better is to find better role players. Those players are the Helm's and Abby's of 2-3 years from now (more experienced) along with a few up and coming 2nd liners that are in their first few years of contracts. The only thing that Detroit will have issue with is how they us to let players develop just nice and ripe. We might have to move a few scorers a wee bit faster but thats it.

I would rather have Franzen with Datsyuk because I think he can finish better then Bert can given the same chances.

I am not a big fan of that line. I would switch Bert with Franzen

Well if every one came off the IR including Lilly then I believe we are over ~$1.5M-$1.8M. Mickey should of kept his mouth shut a little longer so Holland could get trades in place.

We had our golden opportunity already and we blew it. LA was on a losing streak as well as Calgary but we didn't do anything but manage to stay around 8th spot. If this team put together a string of wins at least 3 games then we would be up higher with some breathing room.

I would rather have the team of a few weeks back with all the AHLers, at least they actually showed hart, hustle, passion, and D capable play.
