I cannot blame Edm for the initial Pronger trade. After the initial trade go right ahead. The cap in 06-07 was only $44M and Pronger had a cap hit of $6.25M at that time. That is a lot of cap space for one person in which not many teams could accommodate without giving up signification depth. When a team is forced to move a player of Pronger's caliber after one year, very successful at that, the price tag goes down. Could they have gotten better if the trade wasn't forced? Yeah maybe. But they did get a 22 y/o 28G scorer and a 1st round pick as part of the package. After the trade on how they utilized the assets, that's on Edm.

You can't put too much blame on the Edm staff for the Pronger fiasco. That was just a bad situation Pronger and his family put them in. As others have said, they have drafted top end talent, rushed them into the NHL, didn't provide good leadership (Hemsky leadershipr lol), and nver did anything to address their defense or goalie situation.

You guys are calling out Howard? Looking at the recap video on NHL, it looked like Howard gave the Wings a chance to get back in there. Sure the 2nd goal he would like to have back, but how about those PP saves, a 2 on 1 save, lack of defensive coverage in his own zone? Then you have Bert miss a wide open net, Tatar as well near the end. The 4th goal was one hell of a shot, not many goalies are going to stop a snipe that close and with so much time to shoot.

My thoughts, we are the new Flames team. Meaning depending on the night we can play with the best teams. Other nights it looks like AHL teams could kick our butts. That's scary being a bubble team because a top draft pick would be huge

No, that was a clear indication of lack of leadership in the locker room. Pavs, Alfie, Bert, or even Cleary needed to setup and get some energy going but no one did. I would have loved to see someone stand up and rant a la Brett Hull The Season. That is exactly what the young kids need to hear, wake the f up and play the teams game, not your way but the teams way. Oh and that one scene where Cleary was saying something and you can see Babs in the background, barf!!!

Pretty good episode, but the intermission part during the NY Islanders game was shocking. Babs trying to get the guys going with a "let's go" at the end of his speech... and you could hear a pin drop as he was walking out. After one bad period and that was it, game over. Lack of leadership during that intermission

He really does need a better level of competition. Right now he doesn't need to give it his all in order to dominate, just play a little smarter and away he goes.

Speak of which, players are not on the suspension phone call? I thought it was weird he had to find out through his coach and not directly from the call itself.

21% now but within a few years, because of this deal, all the goalies are going to want the big dolla bills. So now elite goalies are going to cost teams elite forward pay, unlike in the past, which is fine in a way... but good luck to any team that gives their goalie this type of deal, franchise goalie or not.

With the coach they have, you do not want to commit to one goalie for so long. Hell he benched The King for their backup two games in a row.

The reason to buy our Mule is his up and down production. Sure, the last few games he has played good but how long will that last. Will he go through another very long stretch of being invisible? Do the Wings want to waste cap space, and risk penalty for him retiring early? Without the last 10 games or so Mule didn't even look worth $1M, let alone his cap space.

Edler, has so far been horrendous this season. The big question is who are we going to buy out, Weiss or Mule? Depending if Mule keeps up his current production then bye bye Weiss. But if Weiss picks it up and Mule becomes invisible again, bye bye Mule.

Well the excitment of him being signing with the Oilers is probably over now. He played two periods today and was not in net at the start of the 3rd.
