It's working fine for me.

Two quick goals by the Sharks.

Dallas gets the first goal.

Nice! No wonder there is a conflict here. It's a derby girl and a derby ref arguing a point. No good ever comes of that.

Apples and oranges. If I sat in a 150+ degree car for 4 hours I would sweat off the pounds too and I'm not an athlete. Drivers could choose to drink more during the race. They choose not to because extra fluid would add weight to the car and slow them down. (kidding) Hockey players can take a drink every time their line is on the bench (Goalies every stoppage). Edit: What was this thread originally about again?

Your argument doesn't hold water. Simply because an athlete has an advantage playing the game does not make that game a sport. A finely honed athlete would have a huge advantage at dodge ball but that does not make dodge ball anything more than a playground game.
-
I kind of surprised that with everyone bashing the Nascar driver as not an athlete no one has mentioned golf. Golf is a fun game and I know walking a round can be a workout but it is not and will never be a sport.

I can't remember the last time I watched anything on CBS anyway, or baseball for that matter.

He really should have been more gentle on the guy who had just elbowed him in the face. That was an ugly bit of hockey from both players. I will say Weber should have gotten a penalty for the elbow and for instigator from what I saw.

1. Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom 2. Franzen - Filppula - Hossa 3. Cleary - Hudler - Samuelsson 4. Leino - Draper - Fourth line would be filled out with Kopecky, Maltby, Downey, Helm, Abdelkader depending on matchups and who is stepping up come playoff time. Fil centers second simply because of his ability to feed the puck to the big goal scorers. 1. Lidstrom - Kronwall 2. Rafalski - Stuart 3. Lilja - Ericsson Lebda, Meech, Chelios as backups. 1. Conklin 2. Osgood Goaltending could change depending on how they perform through March but I think it should be Conklin's job to lose based on the season so far.

I also posed this question in the optimism thread. Does anyone feel that Ericsson will be able to step in and make a difference on D?
-
Many people are calling for new blood on D. I'm just curious if anyone thinks Ericsson will be able to step in and make a difference?

I really think every sport should have a rule that if the game is stopped for a players injury that player should sit out for a specified amount of time. It would stop the bs acting by players who get hit. I'm also surprised no one has mentioned what Mickey was yelling about when the hit happened. If the refs had called the clear interference before the hit, it never would have happened. So as usual most of the fault lies with NHL refs.

I'm not a fan of the author, but this was a good read. Thank SWF.

Jordin Tootoo injured in a fight against Bertuzzi
tweekvp replied to Donaldjr2448's topic in General
That was not a good hit by Tootoo. It was Bert's lazy ass being completely flat footed. Tootoo just skated into him and they both went down. If Tootoo had stepped around him rather than skating into him his team would have been in the Calgary zone. Just dumb play by a dumb player. Edited for grammer. -
NPR audio Most people will not agree with everything said but it is nice to hear for hockey fans. The commentator basically describes how hockey has come back from the lockout to be a top 4 sport again. I guess I did not realize this years winter classic had higher ratings than any of the bowl games that day.
-
That is my point! Banning the hockey fight from the NHL would lead to fewer fights but they still would happen as in all sports. I think the fights that do happen will be more chaotic and dangerous.
-
I have a little news to anyone who wants to ban fights in hockey. Fights happen in basketball, baseball, football, soccer, and other sports that already ban fighting. I don't think a freak incident should change things. The tradition of fighting in hockey does more good than not. You'll see far more injuries if players start a baseball style dogpile than you ever will from two guys squaring up. IMHO
-
I think it was a combination of good ratings for the game and some very lopsided bowl games that day. Either way I was happy to hear it.
-
I'm obviously not a upset as many over one game. This rule has been on the books since last summer and like any other rule there is punishment to break it. I do however think there should be a tweek to the rule. I think if you participated in the previous all-star game you should be exempt. This would excuse both Detroit players and would target the players who chronically skip the game. Hey isn't this the second year in a row Crosby is skipping the game?

NPR did a nice little story about this. It was pretty cool to hear. NPR Audio

I hate to go off topic but I do not want to add to the AO thread. Boarding is defined as violently throwing an opponent into the boards. Since Heward was already against the boards he can not be thrown into them so it can not be boarding. Similarly when a player intentionally turns his body there is no penalty for hitting a player in the back. There is nothing in the rules to say AO's hit was anything but clean. There would be nothing to discuss if Heward had not put his head down to look for the puck in the first place. He was careless and put himself in the position to be injured. It may be harsh but it is true. IMHO. Again I must say the comparison to Perry blatant head hunting was uncalled for.
-
Your obsession with AO's hit (which was a clean hit) is disturbing. Comparing it with this complete cheapshot is out of line and adds nothing to the thread. Perry was headhunting and deserves the suspension. It's unfortunate what Pronger is teaching the kids in Anaheim.
