I like the idea of Boston vs Montreal in Boston. However I think the defending champions should play in the classic every year.

Well lets see, the best team in the NHL has lost 7 games and the worst has lost 25. The median teams have lost about 17 each. You know 10 lost games out of 32 is not bad at all, in fact only two teams in the league can say they have lost fewer. I'll admit the wings are not going to set any records this year and that defense has to improve at some point if they are going to repeat. I will not say even begin to say they are a bad team. I think all the comeback / 1 goal wins can be good thing in the long run for this organization. Oh, and to answer the original posters question the average goals against for the league is 2.93 right now. I'm not sure how that compares to last year. Detroit is currently tied for 20th spot in the league with 3.03. The wings are leading the league with 3.72 goals per game.

The one on Helm was an accident. Your right Dupuis did not stick out his knee, it was just an unfortunate collision. That said the play were Maltby got a minor after a knee on knee was dirty and should have been a major. The Penguin Dman (don't remember who) lead with his knee directly into Maltby's knee.

Actually they still do need to win three in a row. If the Pens were to hypothetically win two more game it would be three in a row. Detroit only needs one more win. ****** Nozzle

I'm not trying to take anything away from last nights game, it was one of the best I have seen. I couldn't believe the atmosphere in the Joe during the third period. That said I live in Michigan and the majority of casual fans I've spoken with today turned the game off and went to sleep. That is sacrilage to a die hard fan. I think it would be better for the league if the refs continued to call the game like normal as long as the game goes on. Then the next step is to get the refs to normally call the game consistently the NHL will be all set.

I agree win or lose that was an amazing game for dire hard hockey fans to watch. As the game went on though I did start to wonder something. Late in the 3rd through the overtimes there were a ton of penalties committed by both teams that were not called. I really wonder how a casual fan would look at that situation. I truely beleive a casual fan does not want to have a game go into triple OT. I also believe that a casual fan laughs at how an NHL ref swallows their whistle in critical situations. Do NBA, or NFL officials stop doing their job just because the game might be on the line. I think the refs need to continue doing the job during critical situations, if a team does commit a penalty call it and make them account for the mistake. If the game ends in the first OT or god forbid regulation that would be better for the sport in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

On Pitt's third goal Robert's came through the crease when Hall was behind and forced Osgood farther from the crease. It this doesn't happen the bank-in never happens. Also the contact with the goalie should have been interference easy. How does Homer's stick get called and not what Roberts did?

Before the series started many penguin fans were fighting the image of having the league help Crosby to the finals. One thing they were saying is the Pens were a better team and the others fans were just bitching because they had to watch their teams get beat. The Penguins official fan forum even had a thread asking when Detroit would start complaining about the officiating since Pittsburg was just going to be unstoppable. Anyway to sum things up I guess MT is giving the wings a hell of a compliment with all his bitching right now. At least according to the Pittsburg fans. WINGS IN 5!

I guess I just mistook Osgood's lunge for the puck as contact. I'll have to check out the replay again later. I think the Wings will adjust to the conditions in Pittsburg and have a better effort next game. I hope game four is as exciting as game three with a better outcome of course. GO WINGS!

I thought the puck was in the area when Lilja got hit. Not much different from Sammy's forecheck on his second goal in game one. My only issue with the goal is Roberts forcing Os further out of position.

I did not mean for this to be a Ref bashing thread. I thought calls were pretty even in the game and the Pen's earned the W. I was just a little upset that this type of call can't be consistent. Especially for it to be the game winning goal. I also wondered if everyone else noticed it or if I was just seeing things through red and white glasses.

I'm a little pissed about that third goal for Pitt. If Roberts had not prevented Os from getting back in the net the bank in never happens. I'm certain if it was Homer interference would have been called.

I have no problem with a goalie embellishing any hostile actions toward them. The goalies are less mobile and at a disadvantage when if comes to defending themselves. If you have to embellish to get the refs and your teammates attention then do it. As far as Franzen goes I'll make you a deal. I'll were some hockey gloves come up behind you and sucker punch you in the side of the head. If you act like nothing happened I'll concede the point.

Most of it I'm fine with I do however have a little bit of a problem with the repeated shots at the head of a fellow player who just returned from concusion like symptoms. That is a classless way to try and get a top player out of the series.

I do think Holmstrom initiated the contact. However Fluery was already in his chosen position and beging to square up the the shooter when Holmstrom's stick made incedental contact, outside the crease, in no way effecting Fluerys position. Fluery then preceded to go down in the butterfly when the shot was taken (playing the percentages as most goalies would). As he goes down his pad sits on top of Holmstrom's stick giving the illusion of the stick being between the legs. Then he followed the shot as it went over his right shoulder (this is the alleged glance down). This was a goal not interference. I know eva loves to be the only smart / correct individual in a given thread but it is just not the case this time. GO WINGS!

To be fair there were some pretty cocky Pen fans here before game one. I think a few will go away after seeing the high powered Pen offense run into real TEAM defense. Pittsburg did have their chances though and eventually they will start making it to the back of the net. It will be interesting to see how Detroit responds if they get behind in a game. The big question is how does MAF respond to letting in 5 goals. I know the scoreboard said 4 but any hockey fan knows the Homers stick sitting under Fleurys pad did not lead to the puck going over his shoulder. If he doesn't get rattled then I think we will still have a hell of a series ahead of us. If his confidence is shaken the Pens are in trouble! Can't wait till Monday. GO WINGS!

DET/PIT: 4-1

The NHL needs to take away the refs ability to call off the goal. They already have the process in place for review. Use this process to make sure you get the call right every time. It's called progress and the NHL should look into it. For anyone who says this would cause to much down time I call BS on that. It would add suspense even when no action is going on the ice. It works for the NFL and it would work for the NHL.

First time I've seen a tie game awarded to one team in the playoffs. The first Wing goal should have counted and when Datsyuk was dumped into Turco that should have counted. Oh well. In the long run it will be good for the Wings. It will let them know they have to work for the win every night.

I was thinking Morrow would be a goat for last nights game. Him completely fanning on an open net one timer really changed the rest of the game. I think Dallas would have been hard to beat had they gotten that lead. Add to that some bad turnovers and the self injury I was thinking epic fail for him. That said I would mind him on the wings. He just wouldn't be captain.

Just a thought. When the Stars fans say Osgood was acting tell them yes. Say he was impersonating this video of Ribiero.
