Love the Big "D" logo on the top of the mask. Plus the Wing logos look huge.

Awesome! Great player and a nice guy. Nice to see him representing Michigan

Very good news!

Fan favorite in the late 80's as a Muskegon Lumberjack before he made the jump to the NHL. Good luck Jim!

Those days were over after the 2003-04 season, the last season before the salary crap was started. Those were some good times for sure.

Pretty interesting read, especially the story about Lindros. I just find it weird that Stevie Y would be in Paul Stewart's Top 5 "whiner" list. He was the Captain, so he obviously talks to the ref all game, but I never pegged him as a whiner. Link

Bad news to hear. Murray is a good guy and I'm really hoping he gets well soon!

Some of the quizzes were real brain-scratchers. I was good with players back to the early 80's, but before that it's foggy. It helps on those quizzes to remember how awesome Mike Bossy, Montreal Canadiens, Rocket Richard, etc... were as they are answers on most of the all-time lists. Use it as cliff-notes if you need

Which (retired) *non* DetroitRedWings player would like to meet?
thegerkin replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
I'll change my answer: Super Mario Lemieux. The dude played through so much s*** health-wise that it's just that much more impressive. He's been the heart of the Penguins since the day he was drafted. This guy was so elite. -
I forgot EmDog was even gone, that's how much of a fan I was of him Basically, my opinion was more along the lines that Alfie is a player I think our team will need this season. Even if his cap hit might be on the high side (for a player almost 42 yrs like you mentioned), Detroit will benefit with him in the lineup. As far as other options, I feel that some might be throwing the baby out with the bathwater (suck it, ol' timey sayings). Cleaning house helps, and obviously a few players will not be back, but you can't just get rid of everyone, and in my opinion you keep Alfie.

I'd take a 40-something Alfie over a few of the forwards on our team (Emmerton, Andersson). I just can't understand people sometimes. Detroit had a terrible year last year, not just Alfie, He never got to click with the team because the team was never fully healthy. It was just a lousy year for the team. And Alfie still put up 49 points in 68 games.

Either Theo Fleury or Trevor Linden. I've been a big fan of Linden for many years, enough to make sure my first hockey stick was his signature twig even though I had to saw 1-foot off the shaft due to 7" height difference). I still use that righty to this day. I was so happy he got the Pres. Hockey Ops spot after playing 16 seasons for the Canucks. Class act guy and would love to hang out with him. Theo Fleury would be awesome because he has to have some crazy stories from his career. The dude was a wild man. -
Yay, Alfie!!

Nashville submit bid to host NHL All-Star Game 2016-19
thegerkin replied to PredsFanTheBayouState's topic in General
It would be kind of cool for the Preds to host for the first time. Always a great boost for the whole organization. Looking at the old stats, it looks like the Wings haven't hosted an All-Star weekend since 1980. I imagine we are due since it's been 34 years since our last opportunity. -
Inventor looks to drastically shorten ice resurfacing time
thegerkin replied to vladdy16's topic in General
I guess I was thinking more along the lines of strictly hockey teams, but I agree about the other times it would be useful. It would be great in beer leagues for sure. -
Inventor looks to drastically shorten ice resurfacing time
thegerkin replied to vladdy16's topic in General
I just don't see many teams buying this technology in the near future. Zamboni's are expensive and are usually good for a long time. Once a team, especially in the lower leagues, has committed to purchasing a Zamboni, they won't need to purchase more ice resurfacing equipment for at least 10-15 years. It makes zero financial sense for many, many teams to purchase this new technology. This is especially true considering that, even though there is a drastic reduction in resurfacing time, the intermission is still 17-18 minutes regardless. -
New Michigan Sports TV Channel, Signed Deal w/Griffins
thegerkin replied to drumnj's topic in General
Same here about Charter. Hoping they add this. It's only a 20 minute drive to Van Andel for me to watch the Griffs, but I would love the opportunity sometimes to make that a 0-minute drive by watching on TV -
scenario: if McLellan gets fired, bring him back as PP coach ?
thegerkin replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
I agree. He'll be looking for a bench boss job. Would be nice, but I don't see it happening. -
That boy's huge smile was worth the price of admission, two beers and parking. Too awesome

Matt Cooke offered in-person hearing for knee hit
thegerkin replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
Beautiful right cross on the chin from Kane. Matt Cooke is a dirty player and I just can't understand how his continued actions haven't reached double-digit game suspensions yet. Weak. -

Beard shaved, let the playoffs begin! LET'S GO WINGS!!! -
Final regular season lap. Both teams are headed into the playoffs, so this was a very cool send off. I'm a big fan of The Finnish Flash and the game will miss him. He's one of the last of the old guard. Good luck to both! Bummer at the end of the article:
