  1. 13 - "Ãàøà"

before you ask, that is Pasha in Russian (according to a translator I found...)

91 - "Чекман" That is the best I could find for Fedorov in Russian (it may only be part of the name though.)

on a side note, did you know that Pavel is the Russian name for English Paul? Sergei is the Russian for English Cyril or Charles, Vladimir is Walter.... Interesting....

I have a Russian Fedorov jersey and his name looks more like "PEOBOB" or somethng, if I remember.

  2. Does anyone know of the type of relationship that Prospal and Babcock had while they were in Anaheim? My only concern with Vinny is from his little outburst against Torts last year. That strikes me as a potential problem, but if he and Babs already have a good history I don't think Prospal will have as much a problem buying into the system.

How much of that was Torts? I haven't gotten the impression that he's the easiest guy to get along with.

  3. it was for merchandising only... much like that hideous powder blue one they made!!!

Now are you sure the one you sold for sale wasn't a practice jersey? that could have been used by Lapointe

The Wings "had" a powder blue jersey that was sold for marketing purposes? I haven't seen that. Yuck.

  4. There's a lot more to it than penalties.

I'm not usually one to go around chanting about referee bias, but the league continues to assign Dan O'Halloran to reffing our team - even after obvious instances that his calls were less than fair. Danny O was shot in Detroit. Yes, literally shot. We all know that. But Danny O is also the one who started all of this Homer-goals-disallowed-because-butt-is-in-crease bullcrap. Now we all have a little bit of homerism in us.. but you cannot honestly tell me that Holmstrom deserves every single one of those goaltender interference penalties that Danny O loves to hand out to him. He's even been assigned to ref here during the regular season and done the exact same s*** he did in the playoffs.

Like I said, I'm not normally one to go damning the refs and I rarely blame the outcome of a game on the refs - but that even led me to send an e-mail to the officiating association. Any other situation and him reffing here would be seen as a "conflict of interest". But not the Wings.

As for the All-Star suspensions.. it wasn't so much the fact that Lidstrom and Datsyuk got suspended. It was the fact that the league didn't even bother informing the Red Wings organization OR the players themselves that they had made this rule of you can sit out the actual game but you must be here for weekend festivities. Our players found out the same time all of us did - through the media.

And what about the $10,000 fine for swinging the octopus? You mean to tell me that you actually think the rule is valid? That gunk could fly off and "seriously harm" a player or fan? That's probably the most anti-Red Wing rule to date.. and I really wish Illitch would've told the league to shove it where the sun don't shine.

Or maybe it's that Bettman has specifically called the Pittsburgh Penguins the model franchise of the league - even though it's Detroit who gets the players to sign for less. It's Detroit that every player touts as the "dream team to play for". It's Detroit that the Ducks coach got fired over for saying it'd be a dream to coach this team. It's Detroit that draws in viewers. It's Detroit that has the longest current consecutive playoff streak of any team in any major sport. ...But Pittsburgh is the model franchise?

How many TV commercials have you seen - not on local Detroit tv, but about the NHL in general - where Detroit is beating Pittsburgh in the SCF last year? Now compare that to the TV commercials where Pittsburgh is beating US.. and you have your answer.

The league doesn't like that Detroit has been so dominant for so long.. and that's really all there is to it. Why? Because it makes it that much harder for other teams in terms of competing. They just don't think it's good for the sport. And you can bet your bottom dollar whomever the next dynasty may be will run into the exact same things.

So yes, there is DEFINITE bias against the Red Wings.

Poetry and truth, all at once. :beerbuddy:

  5. Yzerfan....I'll be there as well! Sec. 122. Taking some friends to their first NHL game!!!

I'm excited to see Conklin for the first time, too.....not so much the 'Canes third jeresys.....

Anyone else gonna be in attendance??

Cool man! I'm not sure where we're at. I know we're at club level, but we're picking the tix up at will call. If you see a guy in a wheelchair with a ponytail and an Osgood jersey w/ SC patch, I'm gonna bet it's me. :D

  6. Since i will be going to it (and have a very slim chance of meeting some of the Red Wings... if my connection in the RBC Center pulls through), I thought I'd start off the GDT. Sorry if I formatted it incorrectly.

I'm hoping for a fun and exciting game. Conklin's starting (I think), so that will be cool for me to see him starting his first regular season game as a Wing. The Hurricanes will be wearing their third jersey for the first time. And I just hope that when I come out to my car (with the new vanity plate: WINGSWIN on it) that it will still be intact, no matter what the outcome.

    I predict a 4-1 Wings victory.

  7. I'm sort of bummed. The last teaser email I got regarding this jersey indicated that it had that grey carbon thing going on with the original logo.... kind of like the Rogers Edwards stuff for RBK Hockey. Oh well, I'll be there the night they debut (vs the Wings, no less). Wife got us club level seats... always fun to be a Wings fan among the hoi polloi. :D

  8. i cant say he should or shouldnt have a retired number because my hockey knowledge begins from 1993 until today. all i know is that illitch should have the right to unretire a number and if you retire aurie, who else do you have to retire? i think it opens a pandoras box.

I agree somewhat... but (and I know he wouldn't do such a thing to Gordie, Ted, etc.) I would worry that owners then could UNretire ANY number as they see fit. And I like you're other argument about "who else do you have to retire?" But I sometimes wonder about the validity of some of the names or numbers that are retired.... like ones in which players play for one or two seasons and then ihat number is done forever.
