    Is Detroit just playing around?

Sounds like a silly strategy... if you suggested that to Babcock, I think he might kick you in the nut-sack.

    Team toughness

Just a quick note... neither one of the guys got a 2 minute penalty for roughing. I don't think we need a thug/enforcer/tough guy either, but the league needs to call this sh!t after whistles. When that dude was punching Z in the face numerous times after the whistle, someone needed to pound his ass. Z ain't gonna' do it, so who? Lils sort of made a move like he was gonna' help, but let's be honest that is not gonna' do it. Calgary is classic with this approach against us... they are goons. All that said, we still were victorious because even when we don't play up to our potential we are far superior to Calgary and most of the league... poor Iginla, he should hold out and come play for us when Hossa leaves.

    a holmstrom encounter wuss out

Oddly enough when I lived in Detroit I saw Homer at Max & Erma's @ 12 Oaks... I also wussed out, but he looked like he was really enjoying himself. Then I saw Kenny @ the Starbucks on Haggerty between 7 & 8 mile in Livonia... said nothing at all. Uwe Krupp was also spotted there a few times with a pretty hot chick while he was trying to collect a paycheck from the Wings. Then I saw Babs at Red Robin on Six Mile in Livonia with his family... that time I almost took a pic with my phone but couldn't do it. His wife said thanks for not doing it. I also met Bob Probert in a Hooters in St. Louis (Chicago days), with a couple of Blues players. Had a waitress have him sign a menu for me. He was really nice about it. The best encounter I had was when I met Gordie and Ted Lindsay at a Jet's Pizza in Dearborn. They were there signing stuff (no charge by the way)... I was like 16 or 17 years old and I walked up and handed Gordie and Ted a poster I got from Olympia when I was 5 years old. They signed it and I never said a word... Gordie said, "Hey kid, aren't you gonna' say hello?" He and Ted laughed and shook my hand while I had this goofy giant smile on my face and I said, "Hey." By the way, I think you did the right thing... these guys don't want to be hounded in public.

    We need a goalie!

Truth is, whether Ozzie is breaking in new equipment or not, he has not been sharp. He has admitted it, Babs has stated it and there is no denying that he has not been all that he can be. I don't think we have to worry... yet. Our team is rolling along and still winning games, but in tight, playoff style games, Ozzie will have to perform better. If not, Holland will try to make some changes.
  5. Rick Nash, Ovechkin... any young talent that would like to win a Cup. I even think Crosby would've considered us if he had the option.

    We need a goalie!

This whole "our D needs to step up" that everyone is saying, may be true, but there is also some credence to the fact that Osgood has been a bit soft at times. When last season did you see Ozzie let in a shot outside the blue line (almost from center ice)? He has been shaky in quite a few games... I am not panicking, just stating a fact.

    We need a goalie!

Thank you. You can't argue with that... Now, if GAA continues to be an issue, I can absolutely guarantee that Holland is going to try to make a play somehow. I know cap space is tight, but what about someone from the East like Tomas Vokoun in FLA (big contract though), Manny Fernandez (FA - 2009) or Kari Lehtonen (FA - 2009).

    MO Cheese

My experiences in my youth going to games with my dad at the Joe, I would assume that some threats might be leveled against these idiots. I can remember a lot of "sit down idiot!" being shouted by some big, mean looking characters when I was younger. Good times. By the way, there used to be quite a few Donny Brooks in the Upper Bowl back in those days too...

    MO Cheese

There are way too many of those douchebags... I will never understand that one. "Hey! I was just on TV for less than a second!!" People at Tiger games behind the plate make more sense... you at least have a chance at some quality face time.

    Your Favourite Hockey Analyst?

Mickey Redmond will always be my favorite... I also love to hear what Cherry has to say, even if it pisses me off. I also enjoy Bob McKenzie. On the other side of the coin, I hate the guys on the Hot Stove. That little munchkin man, Al Strachan is so annoying. He is always pissed off... Mike Milbury is a little worse than Larry Murphy. Pierre Lebrun is not that bad and Ron MacLean does a good job digging through all the BS... Oh yeah, I hate Olcyzk. Makes me sad that Emrick has to work with that ******...

    MO Cheese

John Keating is not very good... I don't want to say he sucks, because if that were the case he would not be working for FSD. He obviously has some talent to make it to the level he is at... I personally do not enjoy him at all. The pausing, the corniness and just his overall personality motivate me to forward through him on the DVR, head to the kitchen for a beverage or hit the bathroom to get rid of my last beverage. I am out of town now, so I do not see all the Detroit feeds for every game I watch (I always watch the HD feed on DTV). What happened to Ryan Field. I actually like his delivery better than Keating. I also like that Canadian black guy... I forgot his name. Oh yeah, MO Cheese is annoying... loved trying to find orange hat guy and have yet to see knitting lady this year. Maybe the economy has kept them all home this year.

Red Wings place forward Darren McCarty on waivers

For some reason I was think he was too young then... thanks for reminding me though.

Red Wings place forward Darren McCarty on waivers

Great point! In fact the last 4 cups... one of the only guys on the team to win all 4 (Lids, Drapes, Malts & Mac). Hmmm, maybe the guy knows how to win and thrives in his role in a "team" atmosphere.

Red Wings place forward Darren McCarty on waivers

I'm telling you, Mac does play well defensively... he is not a liability in his own zone. He back checks and is usually in position. He is not the strongest skater by any means, but he knows the system and the limited amount of ice time the guy gets, he is not a liability. All that said, I would rather have Helm & Abdelkader up playing on the 3rd or 4th line, but I also see the logic in getting them tons of ice time in GR. Maltby is getting to the point where he is just slightly better than Mac... has Father Time caught up to that dude or what?

Red Wings place forward Darren McCarty on waivers

They obviously are planning to bring someone up or insert Cleary back in the lineup... DMac will clear waivers and go back to GR. I am bummed, because I feel like Mac has not been a liability at all. In fact, he is very responsible defensively and he even chipped in a goal. It also seemed like he was starting to get his fighting back into a groove. Last night's tilt was the best I have seen from him in a long, long time. Unfortunately on this Wings team the only way you will ever have a true tough guy who can drop the gloves is if he can contribute. That being said, Kops & Malts aren't exactly lighting it up. Kops is young and has some speed at least, but other than that, he is not that amazing either.

    Larry Aurie's #6

This guy either pissed off Mike or maybe he has some kind of horrible skeleton's in his closet... there is no way Illitch would just leave this guy out of the rafters because he is not in the HOF. There has to be a good reason for it... Illitch has always done what is best for this team and for the most part, the city of Detroit.

    Early reviews on Hossa

He has not looked great thus far... Too many cute passes and very little chemistry with Datsyuk so far. Not even close to Lang though.

    Stanley Cup Hangover

As everyone has mentioned, there is most definitely some kind of hangover or lack of effort through 4 games this year. They have been outplayed in 3 of their 4 games. They put forth a good effort in Carolina and Conklin played really well. The thing that was bothering me last night (in addition to lack of physical play) was all the dipsy doodling that Hossa does... shoot the friggin' puck Dude! He and Datsyuk have not really jelled in my opinion. On a brighter note, Helm is going to be great 3rd or 4th liner for this club...

Red Wings visit the White House

If only Bush sounded like that when it mattered... Lots of good stuff in there. It was nice to see D-Mac get a story in the speech. I also liked that Bush talked about how charitable these guys were with the Cup. Hockey players seem to be great people...

Is the Home Opener in HD on Versus?

DIRECTV also has LPGA on channel 604 VS HD. What the?? If the NHL is less popular than women's golf, I may need to move to Canada.

HA! HA! Too bad Bert... glad you were happy for your buddy Ozzy, makes you wish you had stayed in Hockeytown huh?

    Nearing July 1st..

I'm being real honest here... I'm not really sure what the big freakin' deal is. Some people here seem to take this whole thing a little too seriously. I know it must be such a pain to deal with people like me who don't live on these forums. I just come around once in a while and see what people are talking about and sometimes I even dare to make a comment... but it seems like inevitably I always see someone being made to feel like a total idiot if they posted something that has already been mentioned or doesn't live by the secret code of the "regulars" It's just a forum... I really like seeing what Wings fans are thinking and talking about and this forum is top notch, cream of the crop, but some people need to lighten up.

Anyone else interested in the Jackets' offseason?

The thing about the Jackets is, they have a great coach in Hitchcock and really they don't need to have a whole bunch of stars to succeed. He had them sniffing the playoffs with a really bad roster last year. Unfortunately, they are going to have to overpay for some guys. They are - as previously mentioned - in dire need of a couple of centers. I think they pushed pretty hard for Richards at the deadline, but just couldn't put something together. Foote bailing on the team and demanding a trade put them in a really bad position at the deadline too. At that point, they just dumped what they could to get picks. I am excited to see what Howson can do this Summer.
