Is anyone interested in Handzus? What would he cost us? I have to say, I have no idea how good or bad he is... I know he had potential, but other than that I just know he is big (6'5") and has only scored 25 goals once. Thoughts?

As much as Schneids "has an opportunity to win the Cup" with the Ducks, I like my chances a lot more with Nick Lidstrom on my team than with Pronger. It was mostly about the money... Scneids was not worth that much bank to us.

Hasek and Bert... not sure about Markov. Bring up some youth or pick up a mid-level D through UFA. Not sure how much $$ we have left, but I would love to see another decent forward too.

As much as people will say it gives him a good chance to win the Cup, he has had a good chance of winning it here. Really it comes down to $$ for a 38 year old offensively good/defensively okay defenseman. I know he lives in LA or whatever, but he wanted the dough... can't say I blame him, but $5.5/5.75 were too much for someone his age. Rafalski was a better pick up for the money.

I am really looking forward to seeing him in the Winged Wheel. He and Ericsson are the guys I really want to see come up soon. To me having Lids and Cheli around to teach these guys would be huge. Look at Quincey in the playoffs skating with Cheli had to be an amazing learning experience.

I don't want to correct your pirate grammar, but I think the phrase "me am" should really be, "me's," kind of like Popeye would say, "I strong to the finitch, cuz I eats me's spinitch..." As far as the UFA's go, I echo some of the others here in saying, Kenny has a way of always putting a competitive team out there, so I shan't worry until the Wings suck. In my mind, even if we only signed Hasek, we'll find some people to fill the holes either through FA, trade or in our own system. Our core is still good.

Does it seem weird to any of you that people like Cherry, Hull, Redmond, Shanny - - guys that played the game - - seem to agree with most of the ideas that we discuss, but Gary and the other big-wigs just don't get it? Obviously, that is the problem with today's NHL. Those in power don't listen to the people that matter. The players and the fans. Opie, I agree that it seems odd how some people in these forums feel the need to put people down or scoff at their ideas. I for one have stopped from responding or posting a thread because I'd rather not endure the abuse. After seeing that, I would take him as a mascot of sorts... maybe give him the role that Hudler had this year. Very limited ice time, but JR could provide some comic relief. Although, can Hasek and JR co-exist when they are both so out of there minds?

I totally agree that the Blues are a rivalry, but I think the Blues and their fans are way more jacked to play the Wings than we are to play them. Truth is, we are spoiled. We have had so much success that we don't really see a lot of teams as rivals. Again, I think Nashville, the Blues, the Hawks and the Jackets are all rivals, but the Wings do not have the same "rivalry" feelings towards those teams. Right now, they most likely have more dislike for the Flames and the Ducks.

Not sure I like this new tactic, but so far the Flyers and Preds have done it. Now Atlanta and St. Louis have done it and word is that the Isles are taking offers for the "rights" to Smyth. We need to get in on this "rights" bullsh*t! If Schneids won't sign, trade his damn rights to someone in the East. Get a few picks then trade the picks for the rights to negotiate with Smyth... I can't say I really like this new trend, but if it's the new way to sign UFA's in the NHL, Kenny needs to get in on it.

1. Messier 2. Larionov 3. Stevens 4. MacInnis I think Francis & Oates will have to wait. Claude may be in line for a while. Although, the guy did win in the playoffs, which a lot of true hockey lovers count as being hall of fame worthy. Can't wait for Yzerman's year... 2010 I think.
