can't wait for a new Eric Lindros game to start. The first was David Steckel. Who is next? I think Clarkson this season.

Babcock: "Do we want to be a good team or not?"
RusDRW replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
it is interesting point I would say... Either the team will magically find a way to work hard or someone will be traded and/or Babcock fired. PS I want the next seasons start ASAP. Something tells me we'll continue to "find answers in the locker room" -
Clarkson, Moen, Penner, Nyquist (that one in Dallas)... go after them instead of keeping Miller, Eaves, etc. Two trades may chenge the entire team.

Babcock: "Do we want to be a good team or not?"

Same stuff again. Why is he asking??? I think players clearly sent him the message a number of times this season. In addition, I tend to agree with Aussie_Wing concerning the lack of personnel. From my POV it is now Holland to blame. If you do not draft well (and this is the case with Red Wings) and wouldn't like to give your prospects a chance (Nyquist, Tatar) you need to go to the market and do whatever it takes to improve this team. There are always teams like Phily and Tampa who will trade you Boyle or Richards for spare parts. It does not happen very often but looks like he does not even try to explore these options signing Commodores and Brunnstroms instead. -
We have one of the most capable rosters in the whole league that can deliver in each and every game and all we get is clear lack of effort. I'm getting tired of all these after game quotes "We though we were prepared", "We just got beat, 7-1, so to start like that tonight, to me, is lack of preparation," "It was a disappointing effort. The coaching staff didn't do a good enough job; the players didn't do a good enough job." We've heard such things so many times during the last two/three years. Where are the consequences? I think the real reason is that everyone on the roster feel too safe. They known that no matter how bad they play they'll never be traded. Starting from 4th line plug Miller to "superstar" Zetterberg. When intensity of the game is rather low we often win on a pure skill, when it gets higher like in the last two games we simply give up. To me this is pure lack of effort. If Bertuzzi or Zetterberg don't like to compete in games like this scratch them and call up Nyquist or Tatar. PS For those saying that it is only two games (there are always a plenty of such guys) I recommend to watch some other teams. No team in this league gives up games so easily.

is the answer still in the locker room Kenny?

What surprises me more is the following Babcock's quote in that article Why players don't do that? Are they not listening to Babcock at all? All we saw last game are numerious passes during PP. Well, we had 3 PPs without a shoot on goal. Looks like the only player who shoots is Ian White and he is injured right now. Something is seriously wrong.

Mark How inducted to the HOF? Really? Perhaps it should be renamed to NHL HOF as it has nothing with hockey worldwide. In Sweden, Finland, Chechoslovakia and Russia and we so many defs that were WAY better than Mark Howe. 100 more that are not there. PS still I understand for whom the "product" is made.

I guess Stuart tries to up his price a little bit with that statement. I guess he still remembers four trades in 2 years SJS-BOS-LA-DET. If he is going to leave for any SoCal team it does not necessaily mean he is going to play for them for the whole duration of his contract. He may easily be traded once again just for shake-up purposes as no teams will give him NMC. I guess he understand the situation correctly. The only team where players where players feel safe even having no NMC is Detroit. I really like Stuart. He is pretty reliable fairly physical above average stay-at-home defenceman. I would miss him.

are you refferring to Dustin Brown as "elite scoring winger"?
-
A little bit higher than I expected. 4x4 would be fair deal. Still he is fairly good defenceman. Atlanta would be better with him on the blueline. Instead they got Zhitnik for 20 games
-
Definitely! Simply because we won't play him in NHL.

This is, perhaps, the best post so far in this thread. Our loyalty to our own players goes too far and the management missed the point when changes had to be made. We have a problem now so the management needs to respond somehow. I think some trades could a be good start. Trading someone like Franzen or Filppula or Hudler may send a message to other underperforming players. In addition to that I think we need to drop some dead weight in Miller, Commodore (yes, I know we just signed him), perhaps Eaves and call up Tatar, Smith and/or Nyquist to be regulars. I see no other ways to principally change the situation. And here I mean not to just stop this slump (it will stop eventually, anyway) but to change the way how this team is built.

Indeed... that was good acquisition. So that, one good trade at the deadline for Kenny in 10 years!
-
:) but I do believe we'll make something along these lines. I expect Andy Sutton from Edmonton! The last time we traded for something meaningful at the trade deadline was 1999 (?) when we got Chris Chelios. Edit: looks like I forgot Lazy Lang.
-
We'll get someone like Cory Cross.
-
I highly doubt our management has balls to do a trade. Any trade.
-
Good bye from the big league, Gustav! You would be definiitely playing if we weren't Red Wings.
-
Only Ryder and Kaberle.
-
I also hope for these lines.

Perhaps because it was old Red Wings tradition to put the amount of effort on the ice that is sufficient to win games. When intensity of the games was bigger we almost always adopted appropriately. When it was low we never forced the tempo relying on skill only. That was the case 17 years ago when I started following the team and that was the case even 5 years ago. Recently, (last three seasons, just after we won the last cup) we always look disinterested, absolutely no emotions. If a certain team brings their A game against us we lose. I simply thought something changed this season after the second dissapointing loss to San Jose, but no... same stuff all over again.
-
The reaction is pretty predictable... We are 5-2, no reason for panic, etc. I'm not satisfied with the quality of hockey not with the current record. If this team is not going to change somehow (via trades or changing mentality) during the year we will see yet another 2nd round exist. Red Wings have all the skill in the world. What the current roster lacks is some determination and willingness to win. We saw it twice in a row with San Jose when we simply forgot to start competing until it was 0-3. And yes uninspired play translates to the play-offs.

Same can be said about Kunitz. Wish Holland would be able to make deal like that. Will never happen, though.
