I could have made it to the NHL!

Since I spent my early 20's on tour and am about to graduate art school, it's fair to say that - 'I could have made it to the NHL if my upbringing had gone completely different'.

No, I don't either. I meant amongst the Bullet for My Valentine and Disturbed. Nearly totally off-topic: While their first two releases (full length EPs) were definitely death metal-influenced, they've been more or less a metalcore band for their entire existence. They've waned from the style somewhat, but especially with their most recent release - they definitely fall into the metalcore genre. The Shape of Punk to Come could be good, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rk6LHyUgik Conditions' End of Progression would be catchy intros.

Nice to see Underoath getting some love among all the nu-metal. Really, though - Underoath is great. Are you a fan of their early stuff? I know lots of people who have given up on them over the years. I've never really put any thought into what I'd like to hear the Wings come out to. I'd never expect them to come out to something I'd enjoy, really. Perhaps Arc Arsenal by At the Drive-In? Or Refused's Tannhauser / Derive?

I'm still in awe of this victory. The Tigers are finally playing well when it counts. I feel like this is the team I think a lot of us had expected or hoped to see when the season started.

What a comeback win. I went back and listened to the 9th inning and Dan just lost his mind. Huge win for the Tigers, could be an even bigger loss for the White Sox.

Winnipeg Jets' new jerseys for 2011-2012?

I was under the impression that the rights to the old Jets franchise belong to the NHL. Naming, likeness, and otherwise.

Yeah, sucks to not win that series - but a split is better than any other alternative. Plus, these teams with talent and nothing to play for in the standings will be working hard to play spoiler. Huge series starting this weekend with the White Sox taking over second in the Central, here's hoping the Tigers are up to the task.

He certainly is. I would feel pretty good about a 5 game series that starts with Verlander and Fister right now. I wish Scherzer could find his 2010 form, because that would be a scary 3-man rotation in the playoffs. That is, of course, assuming the Tigers make the playoffs. Twins win in Chicago, dropping the White Sox to 6 GB. I never thought I'd say this but, go Twins.

Red Wings coming to Grand Rapids

The Wings will host an intra-squad scrimmage at the Van Andel for their annual Red & White game. As of right now, the only way to get tickets is to purchase one of their packages. http://www.griffinshockey.com/pagebank/index.html?id=14214

    Expectations for 2011/12?

I agree that the problem with this team lies largely in the coaching staff. Looking at the talent that was wasted last year should be a testament to that fact. I'll still be at the games cheering them on, but I don't have very high expectations for this season.

Bless You Boys was making a similar argument, which I think is really interesting. I do agree that Verlander has been easily the Most Valuable Player we have. He's a skid stopper, a streak starter, and an anchor for the whole team. Unfortunately, it's not up to us.

The issue, though, that people keep bringing up is that a pitcher is only involved in roughly 35 games as opposed to an every day player. That said, I think Cabrera should have won it last year and am totally on board with the Verlander argument this year. Unfortunately, it probably won't happen.

Anyone know the name of this song?

Agreed. Good stuff. Also, I've gotta ask - lookalive - where'd you come up with your username? I have a hunch, but I'm sure it's wrong.

To take a page from cusimano_brothers: Verlander earns number 20. The first Tigers pitcher to do so in 20 years. He is something special. Even without his best stuff (far from it) he keeps the Twins' bats quiet enough for this offense. Nice that it was Delmon Young who gave the Tigers the lead for good, he's been an incredible pick up to this point. Tigers move to 14 games over .500 and 7 ahead of Cleveland in the Central. Here's hoping the Royals can put some good swings on Carmona tonight; but either way - this Tigers team is a lot of fun right now.

Real tragic end. Especially reading that he talked to his wife a few hours beforehand and told her he'd talk to her later. Heart-wrenching.

    NHL Re-Draft

That's what I was coming here to do, too. Haha. Interesting to see what guys were drafted to their actual teams. Howard, Miller, and Kindl are interesting choices.

Who will get the final bobblehead?

I voted Kronwall, on Facebook at least. I think AdBlock shut down the one on the Wings' website.

    Your Favorite Wings Lines Ever

Yeah, that's a line I remember liking a lot. Devereaux never looked as good as he did on this line, and Hull just got to float around and wait for someone to give home a one-timer he could bury from one knee. Shanahan - Yzerman - Anyone would probably be my top line. My two favorite Wings forwards of all time together plus anyone, especially someone with the otherworldly skill of Fedorov; but the skill and chemistry Shanny and Stevie Y had together was great. I'll always remember Shanahan burying that empty netter in '02 and breaking Yzerman's nose celebrating.

Unreal. Absolutely unreal. The A's staff should call Daniel Schlereth to see who he went with for their grief counseling. Another strong win for the Tigers yesterday. I would have been happy with a split, a series win (and near sweep) is great. Now we head to Minnesota where we don't have to face two of their most productive bats - since they're on different teams now. (Thome to the Tribe, Kubel to the Sox)

Yeah, I agree with this overall. That said, I listen on the radio so I didn't actually see it. Last play sounded like a tough play regardless. Sometimes these losses just sort of happen. Ultimately, they're playing well and I'd rather take a random loss like this than an absolute beatdown or a shut out. Plus, let's be honest - Scherzer didn't have his best stuff, or even his okay stuff last night and the game could have (and probably should have) been a lot worse. Of course, a loss sucks - but I'm happy to like at the bright side, too.
