Bettman just stated in the NHL State of the Union that the Capitals will have a home Winter Classic within the next 2-3 years.
-
That's all well and good, but man is that logo and uniform atrocious.
-
It's all about scheduling for TV. From what I understand back-to-back games were another real possibility, but given the completion dates of the Conference Finals - the schedule didn't call for it.
-
Holland had mentioned on Power Play that they were looking to get him signed. Didn't realize he meant immediately, haha.
-
Tardif is closer to departed than uncertain, isn't he? I seem to recall reading somewhere that he was basically gone.
-
Yeah, the Onion is purely satire. Toews didn't say that. I personally think that Carolina could use an entire overhaul on logo and jersey.
-
I think the whole 'instant history' aspect of them is cool. I just wish they were done to the same quality as the originals. That ad was awesome, though.
-
So are they sticking with that idea, then? Winter and Heritage? Odd, but I guess I can get behind it. Canada definitely deserves to do whatever it wants when it comes to hockey.
-
Please no. Buffalo's 3rd jersey design will be their primary next year.. Finally. Enough with the stylized buffalo slugs. Also, the color scheme that Vancouver employs now is from their original uni set, with the original logo on the shoulder. A better question is, why do they find it necessary to have their logo and their city name on their jersey? Who does that? Additionally, why wouldn't it at least say 'CANUCKS' when they're in Vancouver? Tradition dictates that it's city name on the road and team name at home. The Sharks uniform is better looking now than it has even been in their entire existence. Their colors were teal/black/grey/white for a short time and it was horrible. Why every early-to-mid 90's team had to include teal in their uniforms is beyond me.

Yeah, I do not understand the 2-3-2 concept at all. It isn't an advantage unless the series goes 6 games.

I've got nothin'..

According to Wikipedia, 5 times. Roger Crozier, Glenn Hall, Reggie Leach, Ron Hextall, and J.S. Giguere. Leach and Hextall were both members of losing Philadelphia Flyers squads when they won.
-
..Except for the back-to-back Cups the Bullies won.
-
I think that he's emergence in the absence of Boucher is a huge reason as to why he would take the Conn Smythe. Like has been said, at this point - he's arguably the biggest reason for their being in the Stanley Cup Finals. Whether or not the ECF was decided by the play of the Flyers skaters, you can't overlook 3 shutouts.
-
The situation is so much different, though. The fact that the Super Bowl is one game is what makes the whole neutral site thing work. A potentially 7-game series would be entirely too difficult to be done in such a fashion.
-
I don't know how many more times it can be stated that it's all due to NBC's scheduling, the NHL's desire to get on their games on national TV, and whatever events might be going on at the respective arenas. Sigh.

Phil Esposito was talking about this on Power Play yesterday. He said he would definitely ask Yzerman at some point why he chose to leave them off the team, but complimented Stevie for making the 'tough decisions' when it came to putting together the team. They also mentioned that Lecavalier was at the press conference. They're all professionals so I really doubt there will be 'bad blood' per se.
-
Yzerman will definitely not be there. He is no longer tied to the Red Wings organization in any way. He will be at the Lightning's pro-scout meetings.
-
Kenny Holland was just on Power Play saying all the usual things. They spoke heavily about Stevie Y's new job, but also about what the Wings do moving forward. He said that the clutch scoring we lost last post season ended up hurting us and that we'll need to find more scoring, also saying that Hudler is expected to provide a good chunk of that. When talking about Lids, he said that he's cautiously optimistic. He said he expects Nick to return but that 'anything can happen'.
-
See, I don't know if I take it as a diss towards the Wings. In my opinion it's kind of like saying, "What if Leino hadn't gotten his s*** together?" There's no denying the guy didn't have the drive to do anything but quit on plays and get flattened while he was here. If he didn't have the drive once he was traded to Philly he'd be in the AHL right now.
-
I thought he took his name out of the running? Say it ain't so, Stevie!

Quoted for truth. Also for, "ass, ass, titties, titties, ass and titties".

I have a hard time believing the 'Hawks wont win, but either way - I'm rooting for them. It's not like they went through us to get there. They're an exciting young team with a lot of talent and Chicago has suffered through a lot of garbage seasons. I know a lot of people hate them as our rivals, but it's been so long since they were relevant to us that I don't have that rivalry hate. Plus, it's not like they went through us to get there. Oh, and there is no one in the league I hate more than Pronger. So there's that.
