Should the 'Wings sign anyone this off-season?

I remember seeing somewhere back in March in a Detroit Free Press article that Holland expected Chelios to return next season.

WCF Game 6 GDT: Red Wings 4, Stars 1

Obviously the 'Wings were simply giving the Stars and their fans false hope, only to make their crushing victory that much sweeter. Go Wings!

Should the 'Wings sign anyone this off-season?

I agree, Osgood has been great throughout these playoffs. I just don't think extra insurance could ever be a bad thing. Suppose Osgood has a great season next year, and Joseph rides the pine all year long. So what? Ozzie gets fatigued, we put in Joseph for a couple days to rest Osgood. If Osgood falters, we put in Joseph until he gives us reason enough to take him out, just as we did with Hasek and Osgood this season. If it's the playoffs next year and Ozzie performs like he did this year, sweet; we don't have any reason to put in Joseph. But if he starts performing terribly and we're forced to throw Joseph in, well, that doesn't exactly hurt us either. In my eyes it's kind of a win-win situation as long as Joseph comes cheap enough.

    Norris Trophy Finalists

I'm pretty surprised Gonchar isn't in the running. He's among a handful of defensemen who have totaled 50+ points consecutively, and he had an amazing year defensively.

    Avery vs. Brodeur Battle Continues

I'm actually surprised people are making such a big deal out of this. My initial thought on the subject was, "Can anyone blame him?" I watched the video, and I agree that it looked pretty mutual. These guys have been battling it out like crazy all series long, and quite frankly, they must hate each other's guts (like Chelios and Bertuzzi in '02). I'm also a little baffled at those playing it off like Brodeur is a classless scumbag and Avery is an angel. Is this the same Sean Avery that shouts profanities at every opportunity? The same Sean Avery that taunted Theo Fleury about his problems with alcoholism? The same Sean Avery that has been known to spout off racial slurs? I'm not a fan of either of them, but Brodeur's level of class is head and shoulders above Avery's IMO. And on a side note, people should pay little attention to what these guys (professional athletes) do off the ice. That's their personal life, and I think it should stay that way. Focus on what happens on the ice.
  7. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedi.../content.1.html Not sure if this has been posted yet, but it's worth taking a look at. A lot of them are actually pretty close! I especially like the Ovechkin one.

    Your possible first round upsets?

Although it's unfathomable to many, I can easily see Dallas taking out Anaheim in the first round. Against Anaheim this season, Dallas went 5-2-1, and all three losses were by one goal. I think it's really up to Turco, and I hope he can pull it off.
