Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Canadiens still hot for Hossa TheFourthPeriod.com The Montreal Canadiens are actively trying to acquire a top-line winger and GM Bob Gainey remains on Marian Hossa's trail. Amid reports that the Canadiens were close to acquiring Hossa from the Atlanta Thrashers earlier this week, the two sides continue to talk. Montreal's La Presse reported that the Canadiens order custom gloves for Hossa, although it turned out to be his brother's, Marcel, who plays for the Rangers. The Habs are atop the list of teams interested in Hossa. Boston, Ottawa, Detroit, San Jose and Pittsburgh have all made inquiries. La Presse suggests the likes of Michael Ryder and Mark Streit could be packaged in a deal for Hossa, although TFP has learned that the Thrashers want Chris Higgins as part of a deal. Hossa, 29, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and the Habs would want to sign him to an immediate extension if they acquire him. In addition to Hossa, the Canadiens have expressed an interest in Calgary's Alex Tanguay, Tampa Bay's Brad Richards, Toronto's Mats Sundin, Chicago's Martin Havlat and Edmonton's Jarret Stoll. TSN reported earlier this week that the Habs could be working on a deal for Tanguay that would send Ryder and a draft pick to the Flames. In turn, the Flames would use the freed up cap space to acquire a top-line forward.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jim Matheson reports sources say Oilers GM Kevin Lowe may be pursuing Atlanta Thrashers forward Marian Hossa. Matheson admits it seems unlikely Hossa would agree to remain with the Oilers after this season but notes Lowe could tempt him with a big dollar contract, which would be easy to pay given new owner Daryl Katz's pledge to keep pace with the salary cap each year. Hossa's agent also likes Katz. SPECTOR'S NOTE: Anything's possible, but if one takes Hossa at his word, he's only interested in going to a Stanley Cup contender, as he wants to win a Cup within the next five years while he's still in his prime. The Oilers have promising talent but they're a long way from Cup contention.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

    1. That was said on RDS (Montreal station sim. to TSN) - you are supposed to know all hockey analysts??? WOW!!!! 2. Where did you heard/read this? Source? There is a lot of SF here - personal analys, thoughts and you can't find any source... main source is FACEBOOK s***... I'm not saying that Pednault is credible... have no idea - he said that Hossa is 29 yo / and he's looking for last contract of his career - longterm contract $9M to $10M... Is he worth it??? When you are looking at Briere and Drury - someone might give him that kind of money. I never said that I don't want to move Hudler, Flip... anything to make this team better - I'm for it...

Take out Sammy from you 2nd line... I see your point - Hossa is great player - but are we going to be able to resign Zetterberg next year (Holland is going to offer him a contract this summer). We need some upgrade on DEF also...

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

... and you have Tampa Bay # 2 ... great!!! We are not in 90's - this is a new (cap) era where you need at least 3 solid lines!!! Right now we have only 1 scoring lines... I would rather have 2 real 2nd liners... but that's me

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Hossa is great player - but tell why do you think that he get traded from Ottawa??? He never performed in the playoffs!!! How much money will he command??? $8M per season??? Look at Tampa - 4 players team... I don't want Detroit to do the same thing... I would rather have 2 good 2nd liners (please stop that s*** that Sammy is 2nd liner)... You can have Jokinen and Malone/Cleary for that amount - why pay Hossa that much??? Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer Malone - Jokinen - Cleary Maltby - Draper - McCarty/Downey Flip/Hudler (if they are still in Detroit) - Franzen (if he's still in Detroit) - Sammy (if he'S still in Detroit) Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Chelios Lebda/Quincey - Lilja/Quincey Hasek/Osgood

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Hossa offers need upgrade TheFourthPeriod.com Thrashers GM Don Waddell has received plenty of interest in star sniper Marian Hossa, but he tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution nothing is imminent. "The [Hossa] talks have started, but I can tell you nobody is stepping to the plate and saying 'I've got to have this guy right now,' " Waddell said. "Right now, there's nothing on the table that I'm considering." Sources tell TFP that Waddell is insisting on having an NHL-proven young player packaged as part of a deal for Hossa. The Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks are among the teams very interested in Hossa. It's believed the Habs are willing to move Chris Higgins and Kyle Chipchura, while the Bruins could deal Phil Kessel and Mark Stuart. The Wings have Valtteri Filppula or Jiri Hudler they can offer, while the Sharks could move Steve Bernier or Jonathan Cheechoo. It's also been reported that the Thrashers would be willing to give another team permission to speak with Hossa's agent once a competitive offer reaches Waddell's table. Despite Waddell's comments, Montreal's La Presse is reporting that a trade between Atlanta and the Habs is close to being completed. The paper notes Michael Ryder and Mark Streit have popped up as potential candidates heading to the Thrashers, but could not confirmed the speculation. La Presse claims the Canadiens have already ordered equipment to accomodate Hossa.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

http://thefourthperiod.com/news/mtl080220.html Various reports have claimed that Higgins could be packaged in a trade for Atlanta Thrashers winger Marian Hossa to Chicago Blackhawks star Martin Havlat. As I told yesterday - word here in Québec is: Plan A - Habs are going after Hossa Plan B - Habs are going after Richards Plan C - Habs are going after Tanguay (I don't see happening...) I read some BS here that Habs might trade Plekanec - it's completly stupid - why do you think Habs are going to break one of the best line in NHL???

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Waddel is going to trade him, not sure that he'S going to ask Hossa where he want's to go? I think that Montreal have a lot of young quality prospects to offer and they are going to have a lot of money to sign him...
  22. I agree with you but Kronwall is getting paid around $3M per season (40 games) Last 4 season he played 163 regular season games of 328 games. So he's playing like 40 games (average) per season... He's getting paid $6M per normal (82 games) season.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports the following: - The Canadiens, Sharks, Bruins and Senators are interested in Marian Hossa. Garrioch claims the Sharks could offer up either Patrick Marleau or Jonathan Cheechoo along with a prospect or pick and there's talk of the Bruins offering Glen Murray in a package deal. SPECTOR'S NOTE: No rumors yet as to what the Habs and Sens might offer. Considering the drop-off in production of Marleau, Cheechoo and Murray plus their expensive contracts they might not be enough to entice Don Waddell to part with Hossa.
