...and we lost to the team that was more physical than us, they put on the ice players like May, Thornton, Moen... and with all skills and finesse we lost... I'm not in love with Downey (watch him last season with Montreal - he was awful) but he's only player (that we can except) who will drop his gloves (Lilja can also drop his gloves and that's it) and "protect" his teammates. Do we need true enforcer - NO - do we need someone cheap who can play regular shifts, score some goals, be agressive but smart (no stupid penalties), fight. ... than the answer is YES - but there is no players like that (available). I still remember Rob Niedermayer's goal when he pushed Hasek in the net with the puck on top of him... Still remember Johnson when he crushed Hasek two times (in the same game)... still remember Pronger hit on Homer, Phaneuf going after Zetterberg, assholes like Perry and Getzlaf going after Datsyuk and Zetterberg... That's why we need someone to protect all those players...

I would take chance with Sopel - he's solid # 4 def. Downey - finished Cullimore - this isn't the same player that played for Tampa...

When we played against them Pronger was paired with Niedermayer vs. Datsyuk - Zetterberg line... that's one of the reasons why bab's splitted Datsyuk and Zetterberg... but yes you are right... I just can't see that we are not going to play Rafalski and Lidstrom together... Because of that they didin't played together??? How many RIGHT hand def. played with Lidstrom???

That's why: Pronger was paired with McInnis Pronger was paired with Niedermayer Niedermayer was paired with Stevens ...ETC... That's why: We signed RIGHT HAND DEF named Rafalski (at $6M) to play on the 2nd def unit... Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - *Sopel* Lebda - Chelios Lilja

You can't compare Homer with Sammy... please don't do that. We know what Homer brings to the Red Wings but I don't know what Sammy brings more than Cleary or Filppula or even Franzen... Don't get me wrong, all I'm saying is that with all opportunities (linemates, PP time...) that Sammy is getting he should be able to produce more. He should be more physical...

Only when plays with Datsyuk or Zetterberg... Let's not forget PP time that he's getting... he should be 40/40 guy... Who can't play well with Zetterberg?

As much as I dislike Burke - this is cheap shot... Imagine if Lowe signed Zetterberg to offer sheet 2 years ago when he was RFA for $7M/year for 7 years... I don't think that this is the right way to do it... Lowe is overpaying BIG TIME for Penner... Why he didin't signed Smyth last season to longterm deal? Desperation move... Lowe will be replaced this season as Oilers GM.

I think Souray was -7 on empty net goals last season... He was ON PP for 88 points combined for the HABS - and that doesn't count in category for +/-... I think that we got better OVERALL DEF in Rafalski (right hand shot ) but we still need one nasty, BIG, STAY AT HOME DEF...
