look for Islanders GM Garth Snow to offer either Dwayne Roloson or Mar
Dominator2005 replied to PROBIE4PREZ's topic in General
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/10/05/on_spec_oct5/# Os-Average Detroit GM Ken Holland has always believed in spending payroll on skaters, not goaltenders. Hs theory goes something like this: team’s reliance on goaltending diminishes in direct proportion to how good it is up front. After two losses to St. Louis in Europe however, the question becomes: Just how good does a team have to be to succeed if Chris Osgood mails in another poor regular season, with Jimmy Howard as backup? If Rick Dipietro gets anywhere close to healthy, look for Islanders GM Garth Snow to offer either Dwayne Roloson or Martin Biron to the Red Wings. http://spectorshockey.net/index.php?option...rs&Itemid=4 SPORTSNET.CA: Mark Spector recently reported if NY Islanders goaltender gets anywhere close to healthy to look for Isles GM Garth Snow to offer either Martin Biron or Dwayne Roloson to the Detroit Red Wings. SPECTOR'S NOTE: Of those two I believe Biron is the most likely to be shopped as he's younger than Roloson by 8 years and carries a more affordable $1.4 million contract. As to either being offered to the Red Wings it's a little premature to make that assessment. Let's see how Wings backup Jimmy Howard performs over the next four-six weeks. -
Need to change everything - same old story as last season... Last season: Def sucked - this season same old story, WHY Lebda is still IN??? How are we better def team than last season? Holland said that we are going to score LESS but we are going to allow LESS - You are wrong Holland. PK units sucked - same old story - nothing was done (in offseason) to improve our PK units. No BIG stay-at-home def, no Betts, Moen, Grier... PP 2nd unit - same old story - Sammy > ****** Williams - let'S be honest here, forward (with choice of forwards that we have) at point just doesn't work... Why not Montador or Boynton??? Energy line - gritty line - NOT IN DETROIT... Goaltending - I think (and I really hope) that Osgood will be better. He can be better and he need to be better. Need to support Osgood!!!

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=23086 http://www.toutsurlehockey.com/rumeurs-de-...cb16ada2d0e23cb Frolov rumor du-jour: Frolov to Chicago for Versteeg and Cam Barker. What has been holding it up is Chicago wants one of the Kings young D-man, and whomever that D-man is, Lombardi doesn’t want to part with. Don’t shoot the messenger!

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20..._fightward.html Forward Brad May hopes to fill fighter role with Red Wings By Ansar Khan September 25, 2009, 12:09AM AP File PhotoBrad May, left, had seven fights in 58 games with Anaheim and Toronto last season.DETROIT -- Not having a bona fide fighter in their lineup on a regular basis did not damage the Detroit Red Wings' record last season. But it helps to occasionally dress someone who, as coach Mike Babcock would say, "can keep the flies off." Brad May hopes to fill that role. The 37-year-old forward has joined the Red Wings on a tryout and will make his preseason debut Friday night at Joe Louis Arena against the scrappy Toronto Maple Leafs, his most recent former team. "He provides a physical presence. We don't feel we have much of it," Babcock said. "We've had the ability of having Aaron Downey in the past for a couple years. We didn't have any this year. Sometimes, it's a priority." The Red Wings had 11 fighting majors last season, by far the fewest in the NHL. Darren McCarty (five), Andreas Lilja (three) and Downey (one) accounted for nine. McCarty and Downey were not re-signed, and Lilja is out indefinitely with a concussion suffered in his last fight. May had seven fights in 58 games with Anaheim and Toronto last season. Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said a decision about whether to offer May a contract would not be made until after the team returns from its season-opening trip to Sweden, where it plays the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 2-3. The club currently does not have the salary-cap space for May. If he were to sign, it likely would be a two-way deal that would send him to AHL affiliate Grand Rapids for the start of the season. "I just have to be me, do what I can do," May said. "I still feel I have a lot to offer and provide value." The Red Wings have pursued May, a 17-year NHL veteran of 1,001 games, in the past. "I've pushed for him four years ago and never got him," Babcock said. "He used to thank me when we played against him. He'd say, 'Thanks for trying to get me signed.' I'd say, 'No problem.' " May was hoping for an offer from any team over the summer, but nobody called. So he skated with his son near his home north of Toronto. He has no qualms about trying out at this stage of his career. "There's so many great young players in the game coming up and you have to vie for your spot every year," May said. "It was a strange summer, not knowing what was going to happen. I haven't been through that before. I worked hard every day, was positive." After skating with the Griffins on Wednesday, May experienced his first high-tempo practice with the Red Wings on Thursday. "Whew! It's a little different than skating by yourself," he said. He noted the practices are detailed and fast-paced. "Probably the only guy I could keep up with was Todd Bertuzzi," he joked. The Leafs are averaging nearly three fights a game in the preseason. May said he is ready for them. "I was born ready," May said. -

Frolov to Chicago for Versteeg and Cam Barker
Dominator2005 replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
CHICAGONOW.COM: Mike Kiley posts a Los Angeles blogger is reporting a rumor that has the LA Kings dealing forward Alexander Frolov to the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Kris Versteeg and defenseman Cam Barker. Kiley doubts the Blackhawks would part with Barker without getting a quality defenseman in return. Agent Allan Walsh (via his Twitter account) said he's been told the Frolov rumor is "pure fantasy", adding "people should really be questioning "sources" and wonder how this BS gets started." SPECTOR'S NOTE: I think Walsh's response pretty much says all we need to know about this. I think the basis for the Frolov rumors is his UFA status next summer. If the Kings are out of the playoff race by the March deadline and if his contract talks aren't going anywhere with the Kings I could see Frolov getting shopped but not before then. http://spectorshockey.net/index.php?option...rs&Itemid=4 -
We are going to have more fights in preseason than season...
