Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
Dominator2005 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
He could move only one player like: Flip or Homer or Cleary (I hope not)... Holland should move Lebda and Maltby right now = +/- $1.5M -

Is it me or is this a contradiction??? -
Better than Campbell

Yes sir, he is worth $6.6M... I would trade Rafalski+Hudler+2nd draft pick to get him...

Very tough situation for Hossa... even if he's going to sign with another team - we should thank him on a great season and a sacrifice he took last year... he took less to play with Detroit - let's NOT forget that... -

Orr is a better hockey player than Downey. -

Orr is better skater (wich is not really hard to be) and fighter than Downey. My 1st choice would be Neil - but he's going to ask for $2.5M - I can see him in Toronto Orr is more logical choice - we NEED someone CHEAP to step-up in physical aspect and he's good choice... -
I would rather have Bouwmeester at $6.6M than Rafalski at $6M...

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
Dominator2005 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Update 7:23 PM: As for the conspiracy theories suggesting that Ken Holland has some sort of magical ace up his sleeve, and is just jerking Red Wings fans around? Nope. Hossa and Ritch Winter are mulling over the Wings' offer vs. opting for free agency. Ken Holland is not Brian Burke--if the Wings could have reached an offer with Hossa earlier, it would have been better for both their blood pressure and ours to sign him and move on to their other free agents. There is no magic cap bullet here. -

With that, let's take a look at the various Tuesday afternoon free agent previews. ESPN's EJ Hradek spoke to Sportscenter about Marian Hossa, stating that Ken Holland remains "not optimistic" about signing Hossa, and that he's probably headed to Los Angeles, in a 5:46 video (check the 4:28 remaining mark)... http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/06/ge...he_red_win.html GAME OVER!!!!! -
I wouldn't consider Higgins as a solid 2-way but he's a good offensive player... getting McDonagh is a STEAL...
-
GREAT TRADE for the Rangers... I can't believe that Montréal traded Ryan McDonagh... Can we send them Maltby/Lebda for P.K. Subban/Stewart?

June 30, Ottawa Sun: Hossa: The Wings offered him a 10-year deal, but haven't been able to lock up the winger. GM Ken Holland is toying with dealing his negotiating rights today. Detroit has major salary cap issues and needs to shed cash. Hossa wants to go to a winner. He is a close friend of Boston D Zdeno Chara, but the Bruins have money issues as well. The Habs, Wild, Oilers, Kings and Canucks are going to make a pitch if he's available. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/06/wi...ish_out_hu.html I guess it's GAME OVER... -

I think that they are going to sign him... $4.5M longterm deal would be OK... Hossa is looking for $5M / $6M (from the Wings) I'm pretty confident that Holland will do the right thing... -

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?...e=lebrun_pierre MONTREAL -- The Detroit Red Wings got a query or two this weekend from teams looking to acquire the rights to pending unrestricted-free-agent forward Marian Hossa. "Yeah, I have been approached about acquiring his rights," Wings GM Ken Holland told ESPN.com on Saturday as the NHL draft wrapped up. But for now, the answer is no as Holland keeps trying to re-sign the star winger. "But obviously if it appears that we can't get anything done in the next 48 hours, then … you'd rather get something than nothing," Holland said. "So right now, I'm just in a holding pattern." The NHL's top GM is in a holding pattern because there's not much else to say. The Hossa camp, led by agent Rich Winter, knows what Detroit can afford. "We've talked, he knows our cap challenges," Holland said. "They can probably do better on the open market than what we can do. There [are] teams out there with more cap space. I've tried to put our best foot forward. He's been talking to Marian, and they're going to decide whether they hit the open market or whether they're going to see if we can get something done." When reached via e-mail Saturday, Winter declined to discuss the Hossa situation. Meanwhile, Winter also represents Wings forward Tomas Kopecky, also slated for UFA status come Wednesday. "I talked to Rich Winter on Kopecky, and it appears he's going to hit the open market," Holland said. "I made an offer, but he's hoping to do a lot better than what we offered." Another pending UFA is veteran forward Mikael Samuelsson, and there's still hope on that front. "I talked to Samuelsson's agent a couple of days ago, and we're going to talk again by Monday," Holland said. "We'd like to keep Sammy. But again, it's all about the cap." If no deal is in place by today - Detroit is going to trade Hossa's rights to L.A. Kings

Who cares - we are still great team... Holland is genius - he will find someone (ala Cleary)...
-
I would like to add one thing: Last season, Toronto traded Sundin's rights to Montreal for conditional draft pick - Sundin didn't signed for Montreal but Toronto finished with Grabovski (RFA in the time)... To say that we can't get ClutterbUck is not 100% right. Maybe they will clear come cap space... Who knows, everything is possible... Pen's just won a SC... everything can happen...

Trade idea: Hossa (rights) + Lebda = ClutterbUck + 5th pick
