I haven't seen this posted anywhere since we're all so focused on the Sharks, but if we don't catch them we can still overtake the Bruins, which would be a major deal if we met them in the SCF. I think it's time to cheer for the Candiens tonight.

Wings 6 - Slugs 3 Let's go Wings!!! Squash those slugs and eliminate them from the playoff race! I DO NOT want to see those ugly jerseys anymore this season!! Knock them out!
-
You know how players will take less money to play for the Wings. I think we'll be looking at exactly the opposite in Toronto with that blowhard running the show. Who wants to work for a jerk like that?
-
It would be great to see the Blues make it in. I think that city really deserves to see their team in the playoffs and they're a really hard working team. Nashville or Edmonton wouldn't be a bad opponent either. Definately don't want the Ducks. The playoffs are too long to have even minor injuries in the first round. But, if it were to happen we've got the depth to make up for it. Thank you, Kenny. I think Minnesota is pretty much out of it. You can drop them from the list barring some sort of minor miracle.

I have to agree, the Wings are still the team to beat. Boy, Cal-GARY just made themselves a pain to play against. It's going to be an awesome stanley cup playoffs this year. Can't wait.
-
Anyone else hear the announcer say "Careful Bobby, that guy wears a helmet". Wow, so much was different back then. At least Melrose had the stones to fight those guys and got right to it.
-
I hope the February Wallpaper comes out soon. the one from January is causing system crashing on my computer.
-
I found this on Melrose. Just awesome. I didn't realize he was a tough guy. Wish we had someone like him now!! During his NHL playing career, he played 300 games, scoring 10 goals, with 23 assists and 728 penalty minutes.

Dougie Brown. Hard worker, scored a few clutch goals in the playoffs when we needed it. I forgot all about him until I watched some of the full games on the Red Wings DVD set.
-
I'd prefer they go after someone a bit less expensive, maybe a Manny Fernandez. That would be a good quality pickup. If Ozzie doesn't turn it around encourage him to retire or just buy him out. Manny and Ty (hopefully) would be the 1-2. Bring in Larsson every once in a while. Trade Howard.
-
I'm pretty sure they're waiting to see if the 'Yotes make the playoffs this year. They've been diligent about playing their young kids and developing into a pretty decent team. Remember when everyone was talking about contracting the D-rays and their horrible attendance, then they turn around and go to the World Series? Funny things happen when you least expect them.

It was pure joy to watch the Wings play in the Winter Classic this year. Living in Austin and not even having cable it was a dream come true. Only other time I've seen them was driving up to Dallas last month. We definately need more hockey on broadcast TV.

Shouldn't be an issue. they give the teams that play overseas extra time to recover and slack in their schedule to make up for it. Plus, I don't think it would hurt the team to shake things up a bit, do something different. There's so many Wings fans in Europe, especially Sweden. Maybe as a favor Bettman will let us go over the cap next season to keep players that were developed in our system.

I'm going to the game tonight. Hell yes!!! TX Wings fans unite!!!!! 5-1 Wings win. Flip with the hat trick - he hears me yell from the very top of the arena "SHOOT THE DAMN PUCK FLIP!!!!" and follows it up with a hatty and two assists.

I wanted to counter what Eva Zero said about my Franzen comment. I said Franzen has shown the POTENTIAL to be at that level. Anytime anyone breaks a club record that Gordie Howe held I believe that's enough right there to warrant his name being discussed. The next 3 years for Franzen will show if he's capable at playing at that high a level. This season he seemed to come back just as good as last year's playoff push and cup run. How can you ignore that?
-
I've heard the arguements both ways. Some people lean towards all time numbers like Wins or Points. 500 goals is used quite a bit as a 'minimum requirements' line. Then there's the players who are awesome for a relatively short period of time and their career gets cut short (like Cam Neely, he's in the Hall). It seems with hockey it can go either way, there are examples of each in the Hall. CuJo is 4th all time in wins, just ahead of Sawchuck. That's probably enough to get him in. I just looked at Raffi's stats for his career. If he keeps producing with the Wings and gets a few more all-star games he'll have a shot, but as of right now I'll stand corrected. I'm guilty of blatant homer-ism.
-
I expect Raffi is a lock as well. And don't forget CuJo. Just ridiculous. I'm in awe of the greatness this team has attracted. Franzen sure has shown the potential to be in there someday. I'd like to add Kronwall to that list, but I'm just not sure he'll raise his level high enough. Those awesome hits sure don't hurt his cause though.

My response is this: We shouldn't even be having this discussion. For a team like the Wings that is top notch on everything else, why in the world do we have an average enforcer!? It's not like enforcers take a big cap hit. Why not just trade for one, I'm sure we wouldn't have to give up much? Or just draft a guy who is clearly built for this kind of work? I think D-Mac's story and revival has been great. Love the guy. But, enforcers have a much shorter shelf life than other types of players. No reason to extend this out any longer than it already has.

Patty Wah was a pretty big guy, wasn't he? Hopefully we'll see a statue of liberty f-up again in the near future
-
That sucks. Good luck, buddy.

So when will we know if he cleared? I read it was 48 hours if it happens during the weekend, that time should be about up. Sometime this afternoon? Anyone know exactly when we'll find out? If he clears this will be a MAJOR coup for the Wings. I say just let him play out the season in GR if he clears. He'll get regular playing time and continue to improve. Then he could come up at the end of the year for the playoffs when he wouldn't have to go through waivers. I'm still amazed no team would give anything for him with some of the piss poor defensive efforts on some teams right now. Maybe we're thinking he's worth alot more than he really is?
-
Wings 6 - Leafs 1 Franzen (2), Zetts, Dats, Hudler, and Lidstrom with the goals. Luke Schenn minus 4 in his NHL debut and gets pushed around the crease by the Mule.

I just finished reading Bucci's Eastern Conference preview. Based on his assessment of the Flyers, I think that they would be an excellent destination for Quincy to go if he's traded. They're in a spot to compete for the Cup and need more solid defensemen. PLUS, they're in the Eastern Conference, makes a trade easier to complete. You read it here first, it just makes good sense for both teams, IMO. Philly could trade what they expect to be a late 2nd or 3rd rounder for him and would get better in an area they need help in for cheap. The Wings would get a pick they'd like and could make something of without messing with their core players.
-
? I hope you didn't come to this conclusion based on what's been said in this thread. Can you attach a link that proves this? If so then all the pieces are in place (Lieno stays up with Meech, McCarty on IR, Quincy being traded or sent through waivers, Ericsson sent down most likely). OK, I found the link about Helm on RW corner. http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/

I heard the announcers saying that everyone who either played in the finals or at least 40 games automatically gets on there. That leaves the following players that were on the expanded playoffs roster that are a question mark: Kyle Quincey - 6 regular season games Jimmy Howard - 4 regular season starts Jakub Kindl - 0 regular season games Jonathan Ericsson - 8 regular season games Justin Abdelkader - 2 regular season games Cory Emmerton - 0 regular season games Mattias Ritola - 2 regular season games Mark Hartigan - played 4 games in earlier rounds, 23 regular season games Do the Wings usually petition for all the guys on the expanded roster to get on or just a few? If I was going to add anyone that wasn't automatically on it would be Mark Hartigan. He's really had a long career, bounced btw AHL and NHL, hard working guy, and did contribute a fairly significant amount during the regular season. Everyone else on there is young and can win it when they're regulars. I'd let the young guys wait and petition for MH. Your thoughts? Who would you put on there?
