Downey did his job last night. You guys happy with what he's bringing? I didn't see the game, did it make a difference in the rest of the game that he smacked down McLaren?

I've been corrected/disagreed with by Toby many times. I always felt be explained his position well and didn't do it in a condescending way. That's what these boards are for - differing opinions and talking about it.

toby, you bring up a really good point about salary. I didn't mention salary, just the value of what guys like Drapes do. I agree, he's been a bit overpaid the last few seasons. If he made 1.25 mil a year for the next 3 I think that would be perfect.

This discussion has gone on many times in the last few years. People need to understand the following: you have scoring forwards and defensive forwards you have puck moving defensemen and stay at home defensemen the defensive forwards and defensemen will sometimes contribute on offense, like Draper does with his insane speed to breakout. But his move valuable contribution to this team is killing penalties and shutting down the other team's top lines. When you reach a level of play that's the highest in the world there isn't one guy who can do it all the best. You have specialists who are great at one or two things. All the other major sports have these people and their niche in the team is as valuable as any other. We need a guy like Draper who does what he does. Someday there will be some other guy doing the same thing, hopefully he will do it just as well as Draper.

Everyone got all pissed off about Downey for nothing. I have to chuckle about that. Get a Visa already, will ya?

Aaron Downey Maybe take the waivers situation into account if you want, but I'd say answer this from the perspective of who would be most helpful on the Wings roster. Add comments as you see fit. Hope this turns out right, I've never done a poll before I answered Grigs. He can get conditioning with the Wings during practice, get to know his teammates, build some chemistry, and work his way up the lines. It was a tough choice btw him and Downey, who would add more toughness. With Drake here already, I chose Grigs. Downey would be my first callup if we needed another forward.

Things are shaping up really well. This is a good roster, damn everyone who's trying to bury us at the start of the season AGAIN. Time to prove a bunch of a-holes wrong again.

Good point. I know Grigs can be sent down w/o going through waivers. Is Ellis in the same boat? If so, the decision may be made already. Sign Downey and let the other two play in GR again. Wait and see if any injuries happen and let that make the decision easier. Besides, Grigs needs another month to get in shape anyways.

This is just a big long waiting game. None of this matters except for one thing. Meech vs Sopel, which are we keeping. Dont' expect any other surprises here people.

Best of luck Burke. Always good to see a guy go out on his own terms. Any predictions who the next will be? There has to be a group of players still waiting on making the call. Hopefully it increases the chances of a guy like Cujo getting signed.

If they were offers he was happy with he'd have taken them already. It's just part of the negotiating process. I have a hard time believing that any offer from overseas could match what he'd make in the NHL next year, even if it's not as much as he hopes to make.
