4/5 GDT: Wild 2 at Red Wings 3

I think Conklin could possibly. I realize its an outside shot. But I am completely convinced Osgood cannot. I am not trying to be negative, it's just that I've watched every game this year and have no confidence in what my eyes are seeing in net.

Didn't you get the memo. Wings defense is only allowed to give up 5 shots a game. That should keep it around 1 goal.

Did you really not see the sequence where he mishandled the puck in the first place which lept the puck in the zone and then over played such that he was completely out of the net on the goal. OK - there is no reality for you guys. It was the defense.. fine. whatever. Maybe Ozzie will invite you to his golf game.

All started by Osggods crap handling of the puck. I really don't see how anyone can objectively watch this goalie and think this is the playoff goalie. I really don't.

What would be cool is the audio experience of being at the game w/out any announcers other than the PA guy.

why not both? That's gonna be our playoffs in a nutshell.

Another buzz kill of a goal. THis team will have to play twice as good as anyone else to get past the 2nd round.

Osgood says he is ready to lead the team in the playoffs

Agreed. And once the real season begins, I fully expect the wings to tighten up considerably as a unit. Unfortunately, I have no reason to expect the goaltender to do the same.

Babcock is pissed because he hasn't figures out how to manage and coach one of the most talented yet underachieving wings teams of all time. minus goaltending and there may lay the rub.

yeah, nice idea - but all the suspects have no-trades. Go figure.

It's simple. Everyone knows the wings look for the fast beak-out and to transition the puck quickly. That means your first puck possessor is on a bit of an Island to make the first pass. Teams have figured out that a 2 man pinching forecheck on the first D can yield results because a puck scramble turns to the forecheckers advantage and the Red Wing "cookie monsters" have to stay in the zone for a bit. In reality this team is poorly coached on the defensive end. I don't know why.

The road to success is always under construction.

He listens to WHAT! An .800 save percentage and a 4.0 GAA is fine, but thats the last straw.

Because I've watched every wings game this year except maybe 2 and I have noticed his positioning, rebound control, puck control and glove have been solid. I think he's a solid goalie. That was the point of the post. Yeah, sometimes he over-commits, but when compared to the other one it is pretty much night and day - and not just for a game or two - all season.

 And Conklin is perfectly capable of assuming that role.

My point was I don't give that much of a crap as to whether we finish 1 or 2 as to whether this team seems ready to approach the post-season. When this team plays in the manner of which the should be capable of, then success will come. In some ways this team is like 2002 - they have to be pushed to perform. If you remember that 2002 team sucked in the stretch as well. I'm cool with that to a point.... However there is a different wrinkle this year in that the goalie does not seem to have anyones confidence.

The term "fan" is short for fanatic. Fanatics come in all stripes. Some are overly pessimistic and some are overly optimistic. The dictionary.com defintion is: "a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal, as in religion or politics." I could add sports, but note the word "uncritical". Criticism can be viewed as negative but there are multiple definitions. The one I identify with is: "the act or art of analyzing and evaluating or judging the quality of a literary or artistic work, musical performance, art exhibit, dramatic production, etc." Therefore you are correct. I am not a true "fan" because I refuse to disengage my brain in favour of my fantasies, emotions, etc. I am not willing to abandon centuries of western rationalism to hope that Chris Osgood pulls his head out of his ass.

Not good ones... I'm a bit afraid of a repeat this year... Not a cup repeat, but a Bill Ransford like meltdown repeat.

Bill Ransford looking the other way and running sideways to get back in the crease. (I still remember that Colorado series.)

All we need is a middle of the road goaltender - preferably big, strong at grabbing loose pucks in front of the net. Conklin may or may not be that guy, but is painfully obvious for some time now that Osgood is not that guy and for all intents and purposes is done. Can you imagine this guys record on any other team? I'd rather have Manny Legace with a hangover or Tim Chevaldier on ludes right about now.
