There are alot of strange details to this one. - Why did he need to be waived to call up Hartigan? Don't we have 3 or 4 players on IR? Why does Hartigan need to come up anyway, we already had 13 forwards? It somewhat reminds me of MacDonald going on waivers last year. It's probably to open up a spot to acquire 1 or 2 players at the deadline without unseating a regular player. I really did predict he would get taken by a team like LA, they are most likely just adding him to have some depth after the deadline as they are most likely getting ready to unload a few players.

Based on what I've seen this year, it should be Drake being waived every thirty days instead of Downey. Who's going to pick up a older player that is -6 and has 1 assist in 16 games? I was so entertained with last nights game, thanks Downey.

Damn, I was too late... thx 96warrior.

Because it seems everyone is failing to see the point here, I will clarify... We have a near-geriatric(sp?) goaltender that is prone to injury, and aother one that isn't far behind and has been injured more than a couple of times since being re-acquired, this gives the team the flexibility to call up Howard just incase we lose Hasek or Osgood for a short (less than a week) period. We can send Downey for a short trip to GR and call up Howard. And like stated before, Downey is the most waivable player, in that he will most likely not be claimed. And yes, I would also be pissed if we lost him. He was on the radio with Ken Kal last night and he seemed really cool. He talked about when he knocked out Boulerice, and when he'd fight Peter Worrell and then go out for beer with him later.

At the moment, Detroits roster is full, and it's because Franzen is on IR and Howard is up. Depending on who's healthy first (if Franzen comes back, Hasek will go on retroIR, or if Hasek comes back, Howard goes back to GR.) This thread is interesting. I think seeing what we've seen from Ellis and Downey, may push for some kind of 4th line rotation between Kopecky-Drake-Ellis-Downey maybe even Hudler.

I bought 1 of the 8x10's they had available of each player. The one for Drake has him kicking Burish's ass. I'm decorating a room at the moment, and these will be sweet in it, once they are framed.

Remember after the lockout when Tkachuk came to camp out of shape? Thats right, he got suspended by the team, he didn't get a whole bunch of opportunities like Grigs has.

This is a tough one. I've been watching his progress since his accident, and I was extremely excited to know that he had signed and was coming over. I expected great things. However, when he missed the prospect camp, I had a hunch that it wasn't going to be all that great, and unfortunately my hunch was correct. He was out of shape at camp, and was for the most part BRUTAL in the exhibition games. He now has refused to play in the AHL, and my new hunch is that in 2 weeks he'll be playing for Salavat. Lets look at the variable's here. - He didn't bother to learn even the most basic of English, making him hard to train, coach, etc.. - Skipped the prospect tourney. - Came to camp out of shape. - Was outplayed in camp by Ellis, Downey, Ryno, Ritola, Mursak, and others, yet still had ground above them - Played some decent minutes in GR and registered no points - Is now back with the Wings, after Ellis has played phenominally, and Downey has also played over expectation. - He can return to Russia and make $1 mil. Now, how about you put yourself in his shoes? You can either: A. Play hockey somewhere where you can't even speak with people, on different ice, where the game is played differently. or B. Go back to where people speak your language, and play the game that you know and have established yourself to for the past few years FOR A %$%#$TON MORE TAXFREE DOLLARS.. Which would you choose.?

I did. It's the first one like this that I've gone to. I was freaking out when I got off work at 3:30 thinking they were out of wristbands. I got up there and got #76 out of 500....... I had to wait in line a little bit, but after 6PM the line moved awesome. I went from where I started to the tables in less than 10 minutes. The line was gone by 6:30, and people just kinda strolled in after that, I even had a friend show up at 7 and still got the signatures. Some guy rolled up with a Rafalski college jersey, I thought that was cool. On a side note, HTA is selling former Red Wings jerseys for $50 or $100 and have bunch of Schneider, Lang, Bertuzzi, and a s***load of Bootland jerseys.....

I think they just wanted to get a better feel for Ritola, as he was probably the biggest suprise at camp. He struggled last season in Sweden, and in the prospect camp, but was awesome in the Red Wings camp. If I were to predict these last 3 spots left, I'd have to say It'll be Meech, Ellis and eventually Grigorenko. I think for the first couple of weeks Grigs will be in GR as it will continue to help him inprove. I really enjoyed watching him tonight, and he has improved an assload since he arrived. Ellis has looked real good too.

This thread is retarted. In essence, you are whining about who you would rather see play half the season at 7 minutes a night..... Would you rather see Quincey sit in the press box, or play a ton of minutes in GR including on the powerplay. We already have 6 d-men ready to log most of the icetime. Moreso now that Sopel is out of the picture, Meech isn't going anywhere, atleast not till the trade deadline possibly. He'll play when someone gets injured, or give Chelios a rest once in a while. He's a decent defenseman. He looked good when he played for the wings last year, and he looked good this preseason. Relax. I mean if it makes any sense, I predict Meech will play some where around 41 games, maybe score 2 goals, and have a few assists.
-
Eh, I could take him or leave him. Obviously, you have to look at the positives, one being that we'll keep Meech, who I think has been great in the pre-season, and we save some cap space. Atleast now maybe 1 more forward will make the team.
-
Obviously Hasek. Some key points that it seems people have missed, that I have read - Holland has stated that with Rafalski he is done on D. That translates to Bye-bye Markov, and no Sopel. - Shanahan wants to stay in NY. No, that doesn't mean he is coming back to Detroit. Sorry. - It seemed everyone here really loved Lang (obvious sarcasm)!! Well, then you will all love Yashin just as equally. - Holland has stated he wants to wait to sign another forward. To me, it seems he wants to wait for all of the players that will probably be overpaid to be snatched up, and will probably pick up a decent affordable left over 2nd/3rd liner before camp. I'm taking a stab in the air, and saying that Holland wants to throw someone a $2 mil/1-2 year deal, to leave him with a nice trade deadline cushion along with Hasek's salary. I can definately see (From the list): Johnson, O'Neill, and Peca as possibilities. (Off the list) I could also see: Gelinas, Ekman, Bulis Also available with what I view as a smaller possibility: Juraj Kolnik?, Anson Carter, Josef Vasicek, Arron Asham..... Lindros if cheap. I also wonder about Vladimir Orszagh, I liked him when he played for Nashville. Unfortunately, he missed all of last year with an injury. Also, I didn't know if the list missed him, or they didn't want him on the list, but Jason Allison has also stated availability. However, I'm sure he's still comanding top dollar, and is essentially a slower clone of Lang. Who knows, maybe Holland is planning a surprise European player signing? Alexei Morozov?
-
Can anyone say Depth signings? Ference will take Norton's spot in GR I've read Meech will get the #7 spot. I have a feeling Berkhoel won't be the only new goalie for Detroit this summer. He and somebody else will compete for what Joey Mac's job, and the other will backup Howard in GR, with Pier-Olivier Pelletier taking Koopmans job in Toledo. To answer the question about Koopmans retiring, his developement with the wings has gone no where, because he's been hampered with injuries. He's only played 64 games in the past 3 years, all in the ECHL. If he returns, he'll either be back in the ECHL or he'll backup Howard in GR.
-
All of you calling for Howard: Please read this - http://www.redwingscentral.com/stories/200...pectsWatch.html I hope Hasek comes back.
-
Ponikarovsky? Antropov also had 11 points in his last 9 games last year.
-
Lets just hope that we have to play St. Louis in the first round next year.....
-
Sounds like a good deal actually. In my mind its not really overpayment, We get Souray AND some more capspace without Lang. He's a free agent next summer, and i'll bet some other team will offer up for him and he's gone. Atleast now we get something for him.
-
Thats exactly the problem, with the exception of Williams (who isn't taking up any capspace at the moment) Other teams dont need an overpaid forward on defense, an overpaid big slow lazy center, or a way overpaid 4th liner to clog up their cap.
-
I doubt anyone would take him, he is horribly overrated and overpaid. Along with Schneider, we are basically stuck with him. We traded for him because he was the NHL's leading point scorer, on an eventual virtually untalented Washington Capitals team. As much as I'd like to see him gone, we're STUCK with him.

http://www.hv71.se/nyhet.asp?sid=1124 http://www.nt.se/GEN_UtmatningSport.asp?Ar...eID=2&ParentID= I can't translate them, but according to eliteprospects.com, Jamtin has signed a 1 year extension with HV71, and Ericsson is rumored to be playing in Grand Rapids next year.

I think most all of the players you mentioned will get a look at camp. In goal, I'm very doubtful Howard will go anywhere next year. He needs a good couple of years in GR until he is a solid lock with the big club. With Liv coming over, there is no rush for Howard. And if worse comes to worst, Joey MacDonald is a pretty capable goaltender in GR and he could possibly fill a big league backup role. On Defense, Lebda is probably a lock for the #6 D spot on the big club. The fact that he played over Cross and Woolley has to say something. Quincey has a good shot at getting the #7 spot, but I think he needs another year in GR. I'm sure next year he will get more call-ups to Detroit. I actually heard somewhere that Kindl is going back to juniors for another year. I can't remember where I saw it tho.. On Offense, Ken Holland says its do or die for Hudler. He has tons of talent, but his attitude isn't always there. I'd imagine with this stipulation he'll have a real strong camp, and a spot on the big club next year. It was Filppula's first year in GR, he looked good, but I think 1 more year wouldn't hurt. Kopecky also had a good season in GR and may get a chance for a spot at camp. If Bootland has a strong camp, I'll bet that he will be a lock for Mowers 4th line spot, since I doubt he's going to be resigned.

Whoa there soldier... relax guys. I thought he was pretty good when he was with us. I was kindof bummed when he got traded, although relieved Kuznetsov was gone..... His off-ice shenanigans might not help, but he's showed he can produce in LA, and he's a gritty guy. I think he deserves a look.
-
I'll take him. Perfect fit for the Red Wings.
