Great D there!

If Cleary had shot immediately or controlled the puck for half a second more he would have had a gimmee. Hudler could have shot it, but it was a good play nonetheless, after getting in the right position. I'd like to see more.

Amazing how many opportunities Zetterberg has been killing lately.
-
Though he just served Cleary one up on a platter.
-
Too bad Turcos is not in... It would be about 5-2 Wings right now.
-
Lidstrom gives up a breakaway and ends up with the puck.
-
The fans abandoned the team during Wirtz's dollar-stretching days, how can they fault Chelios? That team was going nowhere.
-
We better win this, completely outplaying Chicago.
-
Still kinda weird seeing Ericsson looking like a pro out there.
-
Good news for the Wings! Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Franzen contracts keep looking better.
-
Last two games he has been making a difference. Keep it up, and he'll get the points.
-
Hudler needs to play like that all game long.
-
Great article! Nice to see the media fluff his feathers a bit now, to make up for officially declaring him "done" in November of 2009.

Heh. Zetterberg just does not have the hardware Datsyuk does... Hank needs to get another Conn Smythe or a Selke and some more Post-Season All-Star selections or get into the top 10 in points or goals again. Both these guys got started rather late, so neither of them is going to get in on accumulated points.

Datsyuk is on target for the HHoF, but Zetterberg definitely needs to pick it up.

There is a Detroit Red Wings Hall of Fame: http://www.redwingalumni.com/hallOfFame.html

12/13 GDT: Kings, Lots (5) at Red Wings, None (0)

I hate pinning a loss to individuals - but Stuart and Howard were pretty culpable. Ah well, it's one game. -
I am sure you are being sarcastic, but I always love to talk about the older players. Delvecchio has a much stronger resume than Osgood. A long-serving Captain with 3 Cups, he finished Top 10 in scoring 11 seasons - which is incredible. Yzerman and Fedorov, while both had higher peaks, only managed that 6 and 2 times, respectively. And in their mold, Delvecchio was very strong defensively and was a big penalty killer. Absolutely nothing wrong with him being up there.

It's really nice to see the recent drafting success after the cupboards were pretty bare for so long. It sucks that a lot of these guys will be waived/traded because of the glut in the system the Wings are getting. Would love to see Holland trade a few of them for a chance at a Top 10 pick one of these years.

Those 6 years were the highest peak of any goalie until Hasek in Buffalo. Sawchuk would have 3 Vezinas, 3 runner-ups, at least 1 Conn Smythe (one playoff run he had a .62 GAA), 3 Cups and led the league 5 times in wins. He had another Cup and a few more great seasons after that, but nothing approaching that stretch. Alcoholism was not his friend.

I keep wanting to start a grassroots effort to get Kelly's number retired... Actually talked to Ted Lindsay recently and he is all for it.

I'm always surprised at how much other fans hate Ken and Mickey. Sure, they are homers in the sense they obviously want the Wings to win, but I think they are actually incredibly unbiased in calling things as they are, praising another team and calling out their own. Besides, it's a freakin' local broadcast - who really wants completely neutral game calling for local broadcasts anyways?
-
It's certainly more exciting than him sucking in the WHL.
-
I think Osgood might literally be 1 win in 2009 shy of getting into the Hall of Fame - ensuring his jersey is never hung from the rafters.

Avery was on his best behavior when he was a Wing, but my understanding is he was traded simply because he was an expendable piece and I get the sense locker room problems were already rearing their ugly head with Avery. If it weren't for glaring problems with his own teamates, I would love to still have Avery on the team. He's not a dirty player. Maltby is pretty much the same, except his teammates actually like him.
