Who has the most career points as a Red Wing, without ever winning a Stanley Cup.
-
I like the idea of having a trivia thread... 6 players in Wings history have had 50 goal seasons, name them (Yzerman did it 5 times, and only one other player has 2).
-
Bingo! Probert broke Howe's 33 year-old record in 1988 with 21 pts. Fedorov got it in 1995, and Zetterberg holds it now.
-
Franchise record for points in a single post-season.... Howe held it for decades until...?
-
Nope!

Wrong

Yzerman in '89 - 65g 90a 155pts Most by anyone not named Gretzky or Lemieux, though Gordie Howe Would be up there if we account for era differences. Dionne and Fedorov topped out at 121 and 120 pts as Red Wings. One of my favorite Red Wings trivia question: Who broke Gordie Howe's franchise record for most points in the playoffs?

Hartnell taunting Hulk Hogan was hilarious.

Blues are a better team than they were two years ago, where they entered the playoffs full steam having the best record in the NHL the final 2 months or so and proceeded to get toasted in the first round - but they still largely lack playoff seasoned players. I'd be astonished if they won the Cup this year or even made the finals. If this is a championship club, you might see a deep conference run this year, with better results the following year(s) once the entire team knows what prolonged postseason play is all about. I never get too upset when the Wings crap the bed at the end of almost every single regular season, because they are loaded with veterans who do know to hold back before the big dance (as frustrating as that can be for fans), but inevitably are able to flick that switch on for the playoffs. Blues seem to have been in playoff mode most of the year - they very well could have more playoff success in the future with less regular season success. See the '95-96 Wings teams vs. the '97-98 teams.

Someone needs to tell them a lottery pick is out of reach.

If he is so injured I really am baffled why he has not been given any games off. Every one is right - there are simply more effective players right now than injured Cleary, and getting far less minutes. And if the injury is not that bad, that's even worse - he's just plain stinking it up then. A 100% Cleary is great to have in the playoffs... I just hope we see it, somehow.

I agree - love Babcock but I always seem to question his choices for on the ice in the final moments. It used to be Kopecky that I was screaming "why is he on the ice!!??"
-
Great... Looking forward to seeing how he fares. Already great defensively, with solid size and strength - would love to see his offensive game develop more.
-
Awesome... I hope I live to see something like that again with the Wings, without sacrificing winning.

I wish... I sometimes fear the mullet will never come back!

Helps and hurts. Detroit is a prime free agent destination, and will now be able to spend more liberally, but so will a lot of the other Cup-contending teams that were otherwise feeling a cap crunch. For instance Parise might prefer to not move far, now that the Rangers can now throw big money at him. The new CBA very well could reduce the percentage of revenue the cap is, so a rollback is possible, like after the lockout.

What do you guys have to say about Filpulla now?

Well, it'd be a pretty boring forum if all we did was slap each other on the back and toast every move made by Holland and Babcock. But anyways... You're awesome! Cheers!! -
Considering the Wings have had by far the worst drafting position in the NHL over any time period, anything better than dead last is great. No question the prospect pool is the strongest it has been in a long time. Smith, Nyquist, Jarnkrok, Tatar and Pulkkinen all have performed very well as pros (against adults) already. Smith and Nyquist are already AHL all-stars. Tatar was the youngest player in the AHL. Jarnkrok just finished 14th in SEL scoring (despite losing a fair amount of games to injury) and Pulkkinen recently broke Teemu Selanne's rookie scoring record in the Finnish elite league. Jurco and Tvrdon put up a ton of points with their junior teams, while defensemen like Oullete and Sproul exploded to become all-star selections at defense (at very young ages). Even huge, lumbering Nedomlel just tripled his scoring from last year. Mrazek was the World Junior Championship most valuable goalie. Then you have Sheahan and Jensen playing very well in college and defensemen like Marchenko, Backman and Almquist who could really surprise in the next couple years (my money is on Marchenko - who was made the face of Russian junior hockey and already playing in the KHL). The prospect pool is the best it has been in 20 years, and it's exciting to keep up with their accomplishments... I'm very optimistic for the future. Apparently a lot of teams were targeting Smith and Pulkkinen at the trade deadline.

Crosby was asked today during the Pens/Leafs game and said "Kronwall is exactly what is wrong with hockey today.. If the NHL will not do anything about it, it is up to the players. He'll look up one day and see my fists of fury" Actually, he gave some wishy-washy 'it could go either way' answer - I like mine better.

This is about the time of the year when the Wings get their asses whooped by the worst teams in the league... Though they have a tendency to manage that all year long, unfortunately. Ha, I'm actually giddy from this win - I saw Franzen working hard, Zetterberg tearing it up and nice contributions from the depth lines.
-
Total gut-check for the Wings. Impressed with how the team stepped up and beat a team they should beat, despite a lot of excuses. I like this team and feel optimistic for the playoffs.
-
But this was the Blue Jackets year!!
-
I remember when the trade deadline was exciting... sigh. Parity blows. I'd love to see at least trades for cash allowed again.

I expect slumps and outright bloodbaths this time of year. Last time the Wings finished the season strong the Coyotes took them to 7 games.
