This thread is a perfect example of the chaos that ensues from LGWers actually agreeing on something (Williams sucks). But for the swift degeneration into a fighting argument we may well have set off the apocalypse.
-
Who is in this "non-fight" crowd anyways? I know one poster on this board who legitimately does not care for fighting -- Reds4Life. That's it. Most posters here love seeing a fight, and would love to have the type of players you describe - but they simply do not let the lack of it ruin the experience of enjoying a good game and a winning team.

I'm holding my breath for $1.5m apiece!
-
And fat trainers make their players wear hats....
-
You're such an exhuberant downer you'd bring pom-poms to the Negative Nancy Convention. Sure, it sucks to see a Red Wings back down, take a dive, etc... no one is denying they aren't the Anaheim Ducks when it comes to physical play, intimidation and answering the bell -- but for goodness sakes, they have a lot of other great qualities, which you can't seem to mention without smearning s*** on them in the same breath. It's flat-out annoying. "Kronwall had a nice hit there... too bad he's too much of a ***** to raise the gloves afterwards" "Hudler has a ton of heart... too bad he's ugly and my neice could beat him up" "Konstantinov was a warrior... too bad he couldn't fight for s***" "Lidstrom is an amazing player... too bad he's a horrible captain" Do you do that with your wife? "Wow, that was an amazing dinner and I loved my anniversary present... too bad you've gained a few pounds over the years" "You look lovely tonight... just wish I couldn't see that mole from here" Your kids? "Great game tonight! ... too bad you got schooled by that girl once" "I'm so proud of you! ... except for the fact that you're short, obnoxious and can't stop picking your nose" Pure obnoxious behavior.

I would be pretty damn pumped if Holland managed to sign both. And just one would be great....
-
Heh -- so much for "waiting" until the arbitration hearing is settled. Though if they had waited, they would not have the excuse that "Hudler has no valid contract".
-
Right... you're just "peachy-keen" as long as the Red Wings dresses at least a fighter or two, huh? You'd never ***** about Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Franzen, Chelios, Hudler, Kronwall, Draper, Maltby, Samuelsson ... pretty much all the Wings roster and call them "cowards" and "*******" on a consistent basis at all. No, of course not... what was I thinking??? How could i ever throw such a malicious accustation your way? I swear, every third post from you is ripping on a Wings player... when you aren't praising the Ducks, Pronger or Crosby.
-
True. I despise Frank Zamboni... without him I could be enjoying elephants and monkeys with squeegees and cute hats.
-
I guess it wasn't just Penguins fans who bought into the 1980 Olympics allusions (Penguins - USA and Red Wings - Red Army).... or was it???
-
It's been a decade since the Wings have had over 30 fights in a season, and a far cry from when we saw 50+ or 100+ in a season. Learn what a strawman fallacy is before you throw the term around....
-
I agree - I wouldn't mind a lot of you finding another team to root for; as opposed to bitching nonstop about the way the Wings have played the game for the past decade - because things are not going to change anytime soon. Did you know the Grand Rapids Griffins set a record last season? For least amount of penalties in the AHL; ever. And that was with McCarty and Downey on the team. http://www.mlive.com/griffins/index.ssf/20...y_as_least.html Yeah, that should give you a lot of hope....
-
Yeah, I find it easy to take Hudler's words as the honest truth. His quotes condensed pretty much come down to: "I love Detroit; do not want to play for any other NHL team; I'm young; I can always come back; I'll get a leadership role and more icetime in the KHL; and heck, that's a hell of a lot of money; cluck cluck!"
-
Do players still attend their own arbitration meetings? Was it Belfour, or Ray Sheppard (in Detroit, the last time the Wings had an arbitration meeting), who said he came away from his arbitration hearing in tears, it was that brutal?
-
That was Doogie Howser you saw..... although I wouldn't be that alarmed - Williams still has a house here (which he rents).
-
There was actually another post a couple days ago where several posters were ragging on the Penguins -- you completely missed that one and failed to stick up for them there: http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60153 Just wasn't the same without you....
-
Wings can reject it in the coming days, but if they accept Hudler is pretty much their property if he ever comes back to the NHL (even past the age of 27). They of course can trade (or waive, buy-out, etc.) him at that time.
-
I was thinking $3 1/2 as well.... Not a bad deal if Hudler comes back in a couple years.
-
Burke will be inking Brett Lindros soon....
-
I hope that picture is framed in the Red Wings locker room for them to stare at all season.
-
God I hope not. But if the Wings can spend a total of $2.5m and get Williams + Grier... it's at least an improvement.
-
Because the Wings lost 1/3 of it's offense from last season. You can say Hossa was a rental and that is fine, but Samuelsson and Hudler provided very important offensive depth in 2008; both in the regular season and in the playoffs. Holland wants an offensive guy (plus a grinder) - so do many posters here. Why is that so hard to understand?
-
Now $1m is much nicer - I'd be all for that.
-
He's more comparable to a speedier, less physical Sammy than he is to Hudler. Hudler puts up more points with 3-4 minutes less in ice time.
-
The team needs an offensive player first and foremost -- and then a grinder so Abdelkader can hopefully spend another year in GR.
