Honestly, it's being reported every site I look. The Russian Ministry of something is who originally confirmed it and added his name to the list.
-
Salei has been confirmed on the plane and deceased. Lots of reports Galimov passed away - nothing confirmed. And this doozy: @SlavaMalamud Slava Malamud The crashed plane was forbidden to use the European Union airspace, deemed too unsafe by the European Air Safety Commission. - it looks like the KHL may be going through another severe s*** storm for skimping on expenses, like what happened when Cherepanov died. I've read that 8 of the 90 or so of these type of planes have been involved in crashes already.

I'd agree Jarnkrok, with his better consistency and all-around game, ranks higher than Jurco and Pulkinnen at this point.

Sweet, Wings are under dogs!

Amway Arena Makes me cringe - enough to hope the Joe remains open for the next century.

No doubt it is a stressful job - I consider hockey fighting more 'real' than boxing - it's bare knuckles and with no matt on the floor. I'm a laid back guy but I got serious shakes before and after the real fights I have been in over the years. Sure, they get paid well for it, but I can only imagine the stress involved in keeping that up for years on end, on a per-game basis.

So the Yzerman daughters somehow need to breed with the Lidstrom sons. Luckily there are many ways to facilitate this. I am also interested in a Gretzky's son and Probert's daughter union.

Yeah, seriously... There was a time when he could have his wife's head off for that!

It's ninjas. Someone is hiring ninjas to take out enforcers. I liked Belak a lot - I liked all these guys... This sucks. RIP

If I was as good of a hockey player as I was a swimmer I'd make the NHL. How lucky for me to be best at a sport where only the best dozen or so in the world can make any money from it

I don't mind Journey and Neil Diamond, but overall the music at the Joe is embarrassingly bad. You would think with all the legendary acts out of Detroit and you know... Motown, they could dip into that talent a little more.

The irony of the whole Cooke/Savard and Crosby + Lemieux outrage does not escape me, either.

Suter will not get $7.5m... Weber is much higher profile and was awarded that over a single year. Suter could be had on long-term contract, from a competitive team, for a cap hit of $6m, IMO.
-
If the cap drops due to decreased revenue share under a new CBA, current salaries would also be rolled back, like in 2005. Wings already have $6m in space, with possibly Lidstrom, Holmstrom and Bertuzzi coming off the books after this year. It seems possible, but I haven't started holding my breath yet.

Summer of 2012 - Wings welcome newest team members Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. Thousands of Wings fans change their pants.

Ryno is exactly who this reminds me of.

On a logical level I mourn the loss to hockey if a talent like Crosby is taken out too soon, but just to be honest, and also because I empathize with those who have taken a lot of heat for basically stating "Great! I hope he's out for good!", I'll state that: Career ending injuries happen in hockey - if I was to list the players I would most prefer it to happen to (I really do not wish it upon anyone, but for example - I would 'prefer' Corey Perry suffers a career-ending injury over someone like Datsyuk), Crosby might just sneak into my Top 10. Flame away!

I hear you, I really do.... But my opinion on this whole matter is: These guys are gladiators, only they do it voluntarily and they get paid vast sums of money to do so. Of course I want every precaution to be taken to protect them, but not at the cost of what makes this sport so enjoyable. I do feel sympathy for him not being able to physically play with his kids for more than a few minutes (that sucks, and he certainly does not deserve that), but at least he made millions of dollars securing his childrens' futures. He knowingly takes a high physical risk, but is extremely highly compensated for it. I have more sympathy for the soldier who comes home disabled and his family is stuck with GI Bills.

Detroit's recent drafting has really shot them up in the prospect pool rankings. Hockey Prospectus has Detroit first: http://www.hockeyprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=1024 Hockey Buzz ranked them 5th: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Dan-Spiegel/Thats-RightPanthers-are-1/93/37620 ESPN has them ranked 5th: http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/story?id=6853047&_slug_=nhl-florida-panthers-chicago-blackhawks-detroit-red-wings-top-2011-organizational-rankings&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnhl%2fstory%3fid%3d6853047%26_slug_%3dnhl-florida-panthers-chicago-blackhawks-detroit-red-wings-top-2011-organizational-rankings Hockey's Future has them 12th: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/nhl_organisation_rankings/?start=6 Considering other "win now" teams like San Jose, Vancouver and Washington are consistently at the bottom, this bodes well for the future.

Towards the end of summer a few hints come out as to who the Wings were targeting: Obviously Jagr: Wings were offering $2.5m (compared to the Pens $2.1m) Wiesnewski: Considering James went out of his way to trash Detroit and state they did not pay fair prices for players - I think it is fair to say he was targeted. Jovanovski: Apparently he was one of the first defensemen to receive offers from Detroit - for 2 years, but Florida offered 4. I wouldn't have minded if Holland had upped his offer to Jagr, but can understand why Holland pulled his offer: Jagr's agent was secretly setting up a bidding war for his client. I think Jovo and Wies ended up getting way too much $$$ and term, so I am not too disappointed Holland did not offer something comparable. Just curious if anyone else has heard of other Holland targets.

Saw it and loved it.

It was kinda embarrassing when Mule took a dive behind the net against the Ducks during the '09 playoffs and you could read Getzlaf's lips: "Get up you f'n *****". Ducks were getting away with things left and right in that series, though.

I have no problem with a loved one feeling anger over a suicide. If you are dependent on a person for emotional or financial support and they voluntarily end their life - how can you not feel anger over it? Depression is a disease like addiction, it can be fatal, but it is also curable.

I still can't believe the Wings picked Primeau right before Jagr. Grrrrrr...... And just to take it to ridiculous lengths of "what-ifs" the Wings came close to having during the 90s: Gretzky Yzerman Jagr Kozlov* Fedorov Bure Who cares Lidstrom Bourque Konstantinov* Roy Osgood * Without car accidents - Kozlov was incredibly hyped before his.
