Datsyuk is skating in the optional skate today: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...ces_during.html

Found one: Thu 6/4 7 Detroit Red Wings +1.5 -239 +123 OVER 5.5 -112 05:05 PM 8 Pittsburgh Penguins -1.5 +219 -133 UNDER 5.5 +102

Still states the ref or linesman has to make the call (back to the whole "intended to blow the whistle") -- nothing about it being a reviewable offense.
-
Great! Now we can re-commence bitching about Hossa's and Datsyuk's ineffectiveness together
-
Rule 74.1 says nothing about it being a reviewable offense in the case of a goal. Interesting -- here is a blog on what the NHL reviews: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=418327&...cmpid=rss-staff
-
Is it reviewable? I though goals coul be reviewed and waived in the cases of: High sticking, kicking or 'handing' the puck in, or simly whether a puck crossed the line or not. Interference is not even reviewable.
-
I've thought about that as well -- amazingly, Pittsburgh did not get a single shot on net during those 21 seconds. if the Penguins had scored, I really don;t think there is anything that can be done about it as long as the linesmen are not calling it.
-
My opinion is it has a lot to do with our players not blocking shots -- Lilja being out in the playoffs obviously furthers that.
-
... speaking of teams about to get blown up because of the salary cap. Boston had the perfect storm this year -- sort of like Ottawa years ago and Buffalo a couple years back. It sucks teams can not afford sign their own young talent once they break out.

All three goals on Ozzie were off deflections - two from Wings' defensemen. I agree - not a bad game at all.
-
Even if all he does is check Malkin - his presence will be a godsend!
-
I 100% disagree - especially if you consider a goaltender's play as part of the team. Osgood trounced Fleury in those two games. At the same time, Detroit was getting more pressure and traffic in front of Fleury. We have seen a lot of close games this post-season (including 9 one-goal games; 5 that would have been if not for empty net goals; and 4 over-time games). I do not regard those first two games as "close", let alone that they outplayed the Wings.

How many years before we go through this all again?

The original rule, stated to the GMs and also stated by Colin campbell (I can try and find the video if you really need it) was that players had to PLAY in the All Star Game in order to avoid suspension -- however, a few days before the actual ASG an 'out' clause was offered that the players only had to 'participate' in the proceedings. Coincidence that Crosby was injured and was already planning on attending the event and had admitted to being on the phone with Bettman himself? The very idea that being ok enough to hop on a plane and tromp around Montreal somehow 'validates' an injury is preposterous. While players who stay home with an injury for rest and therapy are somehow 'suspect' and deserve a one-game suspension. This article was actually written to demonize Ken Holland, but it actually confirms that the 'exception' to the rule was not offered until a few days before the actual ASG. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_dadd...?urn=nhl,137384 Just like Malkin's recent suspension (as well as Crosby's), the league could have waived Lidstrom's and Datsuk's suspension (considering their exemplarary service to the league). Instead, Lidstrom and Datsyuk were pasted all over newspapers as being spoiled, classless brats who cared nothing for fans of the NHL.

I'm waiting for someone like HillbillyWingsFan to pipe in with, 'We usually put down dogs that get squirrelly like that." Bettman has increased league revenues enough to line most of the fat-pocketed owners who employ him, but I often wonder how much further revenues the NHL missed out on during his tenure. Most of his "successes" were in fixing the very problems he created.
-
Dead wrong. the original rule stated you have to PLAY in the All Star Game - not merely play grab-ass with the media and corporate sponsors. The rule was not changed until a few days before the ASG - I wonder why?

Cute. Of all the posters on this site, and all the Wings' fans I know, you continue to have the worst things to say about this team - from top to bottom. Even worse than Mindfly. Ah, you ignored the biggest difference - the teams these two players had to work with. There is no comparison. Probert was a mess (the focus of your little rant here) - with some deep-seated psychological problems and demons. I am of the opinion Yzerman was able to get the best of him, while in many other circumstances Probert could have easily become another Bryan Fogarty (with a tenth of the talent). You may see it differently, and that Probert was not an unusual case. I said "feeling" because that is what it was. Should I have also included and "IMO" as well? Crosby as a captain seems to elicit more negative opinions across the league, than he does positive. Obviously he did not receive nearly as many votes for "best leader" as he did for "biggest whiner" - depite being one of the premier talents in the NHL and taking his team to the playoffs last year. Must all be jealous. Go ahead and list some legitimate reasons that compare with Messier demanding Vancouver hand over the captaincy to him (from Trevor Linden, who was very popular with the team and fans) and unretiring the number of a Canucks player who had died an early death. You do not even have to make it ten examples each - only a couple will do.

Bettman needs to continue to find ways to waive automatic suspensions for Pittsburgh players -- During the regular season, he exempted Crosby from the rule stating you must PLAY in the All Star Game or be suspended the following game, and Crosby came out that game wth 5 points. This time, Malkin get a "get out of jail free" card, from his automatic suspension for instigating in the final 5 minutes, and puts up 3 points in this game.
-
Osgood having a bad game in the playoffs is almost as predictable as him following it up with a shut-down performance.
-
All three goals against Osgood last night were off deflections - the first two off Wings defensemen. Pittsburgh has only scored two even strength goals this entire series. Sad.
-
Still masquerading as a Wings fan? Crosby has ten times the help Yzerman had in his first ten years - there is simply no comparison to this penguins team and the Wings' teams of the 80s. No captain can do it alone, though I agree it is usually a mistake to hand over a captaincy to such young players. There is also little comparison to the NHL of today to the 80s, when numerous players smoked and drank regularly and training and nutrition regimens were largely unheard of. Crosby has been uniformly recognizd by his peers as the biggest whiner in the league, and I have a feeling he played a large part (equal with Therrien) in the free agent penguins exodus during the last off-season. Messier had a lot of success, but was easily the worst and most self-absorbed and greedy captain in Canucks history. That chapter is a huge blight in measuring Messier as a captain and alone renders him out of the discussion with other great contemporary captains of the time (Yzerman, Sakic, Lemiuex).

Sweet 80s style save there Osgood!

Was it just me, or did Emrick just imply Detroit was leading in shots this period... because there have not been any power plays?
