He is great on PK, blocks tons of shots, is willing to drop the gloves and stand up for a team mate, isn't afraid to play the body, and when he plays within his abilities and doesn't try to be a hero is a solid defenseman. All of you haters out there need to look at the big picture. For the price and what he brings to the table, it is not a bad deal.

Jose Theodore to test free agent market
LIDDYGIBBY5 replied to Greatness=PavelDatsyuk's topic in General
The only way the Wings franchise should pay him is if he promises to re-sign with Colorado! -
He had trouble cracking the lineup for a cup contender. He will be a year older and have the same problems, unless he goes to a non contender and I'm sure he doesn't want that. That is just my two cents.

Not a bad deal for Tampa. Roberts is probably done playing, but for Tampa's sake, I hope they can sign Malone. Melrose needs lots of help!

Hossa did turn down a $7M/yr offer to see what else is out there. Doesn't sound like he really wants to take less cash to play with Pitt. ( or maybe any contender for that matter) It is gonna cost big $$ for anyone. Who knows what was said in the handshake line. Aaron Ward was the reportedly the first person Scotty told he had just coached his last game.

Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?
LIDDYGIBBY5 replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
If Feds wanted to stay, why did he take less money to leave? Turning your back on a franchise so you can be the #1 guy on a team doesn't get your number retired. That is just my opinion. -

Please tell me that you didn't just say that Draper doesn't make contributions to the team that make them successful. This team didn't start winning cups again until Yzerman decided to become a defensive stud. Players contribute in more ways than scoring. Draper has been key to the four Cup teams he has been part of. He centered the second most popular line in Red Wings history. He has been one of the best face off men in the league for a long time. He has been this teams best penalty killer for as long as he has played. There is more than offensive stats as a reason to retire a number. -
1-0 games are great unless it is played between two neutral zone trap teams. The trap is why so many people think that more scoring is the answer.

I hope that Meech gets his name on the Cup. He deserves it more than any of the others who will need to be petitioned.
-
He is an RFA this year if I'm not mistaken. Do you thing that someone will try to poach him from us? How much is too much to match on an offer from another team?
-
I don't know if all three retire, but I don't think any will be back with the team next year. I expect Drake to go out on top. He has earned it and deserves to retire a champion. I am 50- 50 on Hasek. I don't think that he will be offered a contract by the Wings if he decides not to retire. Chelli is a different story. Babcock decided that Lilja or Lebda would do more for this team than Chelios could in the final. I don't know if Chelli will want to stick around to be a #7 Defenceman and only play 30 games next year. This sport is a business and I think he is done in Detroit.

Amen to that. It's situations like this on that make me want to cry. Stay strong and I will pray for you and your family.

O'Hallaran - Default call is 'interference'?

GREAT QUESTION! That goes to the heart of this whole thread. It was a pure reputation call. I wish someone in the league office would ask that question. -

Can you think of a better way to share your schwantz with the world? I love technology. Should I use my phone to call 911 to save that bus full of nuns? No, I'll snap a shot of my gear and mail it to my friends. Sorry this thread got hijacked. Back to hockey. -
Has Kronwall Been Our Best Defenseman In These Playoffs?
LIDDYGIBBY5 replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I don't like the idea that he has been the best D-men because he hasn't had a major meltdown. There is a higher expectation for a team that is only three wins away from a championship. -

I agree with you to an extent. Take ESPN's NFL coverage. John Clayton knows a lot about the technical aspects of football. Buy Sean Salisbury always schools him head to head because he has been in the huddle and gotten knocked in the mouth. Same thing with Mike and Mike. Golic makes Greeny look foolish because of his experience on the field even though Greeny knows a lot about sports. That on ice/field experience gives you a perspective that those who don't/haven't played can't. Please don't take this as me saying that you have to play to have a clue about hockey, I by no means think that. -

I guess it is time to take tapping out of the game. Those damn taps will get you every time. Do you hear yourself think. TAP??? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt (even though I think you are wrong) and Holmstrom TAPPED him. Do you really want to watch a game when a goal is disallowed because of a tap. Not a two hand slash, not a charging check into a goalie, a tap. Remember the word tap was what you used not me. TAP -

Fleury initiated contact with Holmstrom's stick outside of the crease by trying to go down in the butterfly position on top of if. Holmstrom didn't put is stick between Fleury's pads. Fleury put is pads down on Holmstroms stick outside of the crease. Read the rule in the link I provided. -

Here is a link to the rule http://www.nhl.com/hockeyu/rulebook/rule78.html In order for the goal to not count. The offensive player must initiate contact which he didn't, and it must keep the goalkeeper from establishing position which it didn't. Fleury initiated contact and was able to square himself to the shot. But we could argue about this all day. What it comes down to is a call like this needs to be reviewed in Toronto. -

I disagree. Fleury came out of his crease and into Holmstrom's stick. An offensive player has to be able to play in the are outside of the crease. Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't this interpretation of the rule allow the goalie to come out and make contact with a player to draw a penalty? I almost never agree with commentators or Barry Melrose. They were right, I did not hear one TV commentator on Versus, NHL Network or ESPN say that it was a good call. They can't all be wrong, can they? -
I heard a couple of the Wings players refer to Osgood as the team's best player a few times in the Dallas series. It was in reference to the slash he took at the end of game two. Hearing players say that is good enough for me. Isn't it great to have multiple players that have legitimate reasons why they should win the most important individual award in the NHL. God I love this team!!

Can you believe this??? It's early in the third and Sammy has two goals like they predicted. I want them to pick my lotto numbers!!!
