    Datsyuk Contract Negotiations

I have to agree, I'm not a math major either, but my calculator says that you are correct. Dats has better GPG, APG, and PPG.

Door Number 5 or Calgary in First Round of Playoffs

Calgary can't win on the road and play very well at home. The Wings are excellent at home and not to shabby on the road. That doesn't add up to a series victory for Calgary when you play four road games. With Hank back in the lineup and the accusitions of Bert and Calder, I don't see why the Wings couldn't steal a road game and win in five or six.

    The refs hate us!

There is a reason that the Wings have been on the PK more. They are trying to play tougher and grittier. They are hitting more but they are looking for the hit instead of hitting when the oppertunity is there. This is causing them to be out of position and forcing them to take more penalties. This game is all about discipline and not be retarded when it comes to laying down the law.

Black eye for the NHL argument

No sport likes to have issues like this. The entire NFL was upset when that lineman stepped on the guys face. All of the NCAA was ready to suspend that kid who threw the elbow into that North Carolina's players nose. MLB is fighting the steroids battle like it is the war on terror. The NBA gave a huge suspension to Carmello for the fight he was in. All of these things happened in the most recent seasons of the respective leagues. No one wants things like this to happen.

    Vladdy

It is too bad that the Illitch family and the Wings fans are more committed to Vladdy than his wife is. I cired when he came walking in at Stevie's number raising. His wife will have to answer for her actions when her time comes.

    NHL Will Expand to Vegas

The league does need to expand to non traditional markets. It will be difficult and nothing is fixed overnight. But if the NHL is going to get stronger, it is going to need more and new fans. Teams will struggle with attendence at first, but they will grow. It might take a decade or more, but if it makes the game and league better, I am all for it. Rome wasn't built in a day, my friends!

    How does league expansion work?

You took the words right out of my mouth

    David Koci

I agree with you 100%. Too many people think that is just "part of hockey" and that " hockey just isn't hockey with out fighting" That kind of player serves no purpose in hockey, and that kind of fighting is not needed!

3/11 GDT: Bruins @ Red Wings

Why should this game be any different than the others. The Wings will play to the level of competition. Final score Det 3 (Holmstrom, Maltby)Bos 2 in a shootout.

    Simon pulls a McSorley

Simon has been suspended indefinitely according to the AP. Should the Islanders have taken so action and de-activated him after the game? What would have happened if some on the Wings did that? Would the team act?

    Bootland recalled from Grand Rapids

They have faced each other before and Bootland destroyed him. Tootoo didn' even land a punch. It was the lockout year I was at Van Andel and saw it first hand.

    What about this scenario?

Who do you suggest? On paper it doesn't sound like a terrible idea, but who are these hot shot players that can hit, shoot, and fight?

    Glen Murray

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/bos070218.html TFP is stating that Murray is available. He has two years left on his contract worth $4.15M/year. Should the Wings look at picking him up, is he worth that kind of money? If Datsyuk does leave in the offseason would he be a good gap fill?
  14. LIDDYGIBBY5

    Glen Murray

Lang and Maltby take up $5.244M and as of now the Wings are at least $2.5M under the cap. Murray would cost $4.15M leaving over $5M to play with. Datsyuk makes $3.9 and you could expect him (if he stays) to make $5.9M. That still leaves $3M to resign RFA's. (That assumes that we don't make any goalie changes that would save us more money) Murray is affordable!

    Glen Murray

Who can do the same for "cheap"?

    Glen Murray

From TSN.ca Assets Owns the soft hands of a natural goal-scorer. His wrist shot is a bullet and he uses it often to bury his chances. Skates very well for a 6-3, 225-pound winger. Flaws Could use his size more effectively in the offensive zone. Is only an average defensive forward. Career potential Top six winger. Isn't this something we are looking for? Big and strong, but not a thug. Offensive minded, and can shoot and score. We don't need him to be anyting but an average defensive forward.

I'm sick of the FLYERS playing on VS

VS. hasn't gotten the ratings they have this year by making good decisions.

Wings Willing to pay the price

In this day and age of the NHL you have to be willing to mortgage the future to win today. The cap keeps teams pretty even. Some teams underperform and miss the playoffs and some teams just seem to click and are favorites. To give yourself that little advantage, you have to be willing to be a seller in the near future to win now, and then rebuild. If your not willing, you will always have a good regular season team that is missing that last peice in the playoffs. (What we have seen the last couple of seasons) If you want to see another Cup here in Hockeytown, don't expect to do it without giving up someone really good.

Are we going to make it happen?

I would just as soon Holland make no deal than a bad one. There is no point givving up our future for a player that might give us a chance to win just this year. If there is a good deal out there, it will be made.
  20. LIDDYGIBBY5

    Maltby

His future he is set in stone if he is willing to play for $750,000/ year.

    Hudler

So a player has no value to this team unless he is a complete force along the boards? That is a very simple way to form a team! Keep the kid around because he can put the puck in the back of the net, and his still has tons of upside. I agree with a previous post that the only way he should be traded is if it is a deal that is too good to pass up, and is nothing but a win for Detroit.

    Vaclav Prospal and Ruslan Fedotenko

Both of these guys are rumored to be on the trading block and Prospal and his coach argued on the bench the other night. I don't know any players names but the rumor is the Wings and the Bolts are talking deal. I have a friend that lives in FL and someone he knows works for a newspaper down there. I know that this has very little credibility, but I thought I would throw it out there. Everyone loves to imagine. Thoughts???

    Shanahan seeking a 2-yr deal at $5M/season

That has to be a mis-print. God I hope that it was a mis-print. He did score 40 goals, but if Holland and Nill let him play that card for $4,000,000 I would be surprised/ shocked/ scared!

Eklund: Biron could get traded to the Wings

Franzen and Cleary are good on pk. A team can never have TOO MANY good pk. You need at least two sets of forwards to kill a penalty. Plus you don't want your top scorers having to kill lots of penalties. Blocking shots causes injuries and takes away from ice time they can play. It's hard to score goals when your tired from 8 mins of pk duty.

Rumor: Steve Thomas signs with Wings

I'm usually not one to complain about signings, but gimme a break. I sure as sh*t hope that this isn't true. Why waste money on him? Let a youngster from GR get some experience before you sign a player that is 7 or 8 years past the end of his prime.
