During a stoppage late in the third period, I switched over to a channel on Directv that show the most watched shows. The Wings game was second nationally to the Lakers/Rockets game 7. Does this mean that hockey is growing? Think of the ad revenue that the league can pull in if this is the norm and not just a one time thing.

Who cares about fair? You bring up the best player who will fill the necessary role. Leino is not a grinder and a checker, that was the type of player that was needed. Leino hasn't even been playing North American hockey for a full season. He is a very skilled player, but right now, is there anyone who you would take out of the lineup to put him in? I don't think one year on the farm is too slow for a player.

It seems like the puck needs to be in contact with the blade of the stick as the player crosses the line in reverse. Not just handling the puck, but actually have contact with the stick. I remember when that happened with Shanny. Mickey was adamant that it should have been offsides because he was handling the puck when he crossed and the stick wasn't in contact with the puck.

Considering the results of this franchise over the past 20 years, I say no. This has been a team of depth pre and post lockout. As long as this franchise continues to put an elite team on the ice year after year, I don't see anything to complain about. Lets go Red Wings!

I actually hope this is a close game. If the Wings start to blow this game open, someone is going to get hurt by a cheap shot. It started a little late in game 5. What are we going to go to, a best of nine, a best of eleven? If they are going to do that they will have to eliminate an entire round of the playoffs or extend the season until the beginning of July. The series would last at least four more days for one that goes the distance in a best of nine format, which there is usually at least one in each of the first two rounds. This means more travel which will cost teams mega dollars to fly. (especially western conference teams) Free agency would have to be pushed back so teams in the conference finals and Stanley Cup finals would have time to qualify players/negotiate with there own FA's. This is a terrible idea. Make the game more palatable and there would be more $$$.

I hate Pronger more than a kick to the grundle!

How about we just keep Franzen scoring goals and not worry so much about the fighting. Or maybe we can bring in players like Rivet and Carcillo for no other reason than the fight mentoring and then really f-up the salary cap!

Please don't use the word grit when you mean a fighter. Those two things aren't the same. This team is very gritty! The further you go in the playoffs, the less effective a fighter is. I wouldn't take a single player out of this lineup for someone whose job is to fight, and not much else!

I could put the sticks in alphabetical order by players last name if they need me to!

There is a reason why Stuart has played for so many teams. He has the talent to be wanted by another team, plus moving him generally has upside to the team he is signed with.

Franzen making 2/3 of what Hank is making seems to fall in line. So many people talk about how this team needs a tought power forward. When Holland locks one up people complain about the price. Johan could have signed a five year deal worth $5M plus on the UFA market, but decided to sign here for less. Piss and moan, piss and moan!

I guess I don't see why they would need to cut $8M to give Franzen $3M more and Hossa $1M less per season.

If I'm not mistaken, the avg. salary is counted against the cap if the player retires before the end of his contract. I don't have a link, I'm just going off of memory. Take it for what it is worth.

I believe that all incentive pay counts towards the next years figures.

Why is that? It's the cap hit that is important.

A split squad game is the only answer. The game must also be played at a neutral site so there is no advantage to the home team.
