Did they just say 16,000 career saves for Ozzy? That just sounds impressive!
-
It looks like the cost is another thread committed to this. See the other 12 and post in there.

They did all of those things and look at what came from it. More of the same lazy play. What is the one constant? Coaching!

The only thing that has changed from this year to last is McCrimmon. Occam's Razor. You explain to me why things have gone to crap. I don't think it is just the defensemen, but the defensive play of the ENTIRE team.

If we were going to sign Franzen for $2M signing Hossa would be so much easier. I would expect Franzen to get $3.5M -$4M in Detroit and closer to $5M on the open market. (Cap Hit)

You have to pull the goalie early! It takes some time to score all of those goals. You can't just wait until 90 seconds left and hope to net 3 or 4 goals. When you are down that many in an elimination game, what do you have to lose?

I just call 'em like I see 'em when I am reading the posts.

Oh please, no more even strength points vs. total points. I seem to remember pages and pages of ranting and raving about this in the not to distant past!

You are taking the fast track from argumentative to dick. Take it back a notch and accept the fact that people are going to differ in points of view.

Sports talk and reporting has been comparison for as long as I can remember. Who will be the next Michael Jordan. Lou Gehrig's unbreakable record; was Cal as good since he played more games played in a season? Who will fill Gretzky's shoes? Comparisons are just the norm when sports fans talk about players with other sports fans.

MLB GM's are reluctant to have their players play in an international tournament during the PRESEASON, let alone stopping the regular season for one. There is a lot of money invested in these players and you can ruin a teams post season run with a major injury. Plus, what do you do with the guys who don't play in the Olympics? You can lose a lot in 17 days of no games.

My problem w/ Val isn't really with him personally, it is with his contract. I just don't see him being worth the $3M cap hit. Hopefully he will be worth it next season, but to be honest, I don't see that either. I think that it is great that he seems to be finding a hot streak. He is shooting the puck more and playing with confidence. What needs to happen is for this to not just be a hot streak. He needs to have the confidence no matter what. Wouldn't it be great if you put Sammy's willingness to shoot into Val's head.

He was learning first hand that good things happen when you put the puck on net. Imagine how good he could be if he shot as often as Sammy!

I would rather play a team that we might not match up as well against that is in our back yard, then start off the playoffs making two cross continent flights. Considering that If the Wings are to repeat, they will more than likely have to make multiple trips out west in either the second round or conference finals or both.

GM's want to give 10 minute misconduct penalty for fighting
LIDDYGIBBY5 replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
The way that the game is played has changed. The way the players fight has changed, maybe the way the rulebook reads should change too. With the addition of face shields, a new "hugging" style of fighting, and just a plain "little *****" style of enforcing has forced that these changes. You have players that instigate fights and hide behind a piece of plexi-glass so they don't get hurt. Now the "in thing" of fighting is to grab the other guy by the collar and hold him as far away from as possible and then short shot him with that hand. Then you add the players who chop at the top of opponents skates or cross-check after the play and then turtle. Fighting has always been part of our game, but so was gentleman like conduct. ( as much as can be expected by a guy you are trying to pummel and vice versa) Now what do we have? -
Sure, why not! If you can't get what you are looking for at home, move to a new one.

IMO, 5 Things the Wings need to work on for next game
LIDDYGIBBY5 replied to spyder's topic in General
Things need to be shaken up if you ask me. Sitting Ozzie is the kind of thing that the whole team needs. Now you can't bench everyone, but the entire team needs to be called out publicly. Bench Lidstrom and Zetterberg, not because it is their fault, but to show the team that play needs to be better. Make an example out of the leaders on the team. I know that this sounds kind of like a cliche, but do you have a better idea? The only other idea I have is public flogging! I think that the NHLPA would probably win that grievance. -
Who is the most improved Red Wing from last season?
LIDDYGIBBY5 replied to Yzerman191's topic in General
I see where you are going with this. I guess that is just the best part of playing for Detroit. You get to pad your stats a little because you get to play with teammates who are so committed to winning, that they will take less $$ to do so! -

You show my a player who will thrive in this league w/o some sort of supporting cast!. A great player with out any other talent around him is a waste of salary. -

I'm going to have to be a Lebda defender this time. After his terrible start, he has been very steady. He is fourth in defense points and fourth in defense +/-. He is playing about 13:30 per game. Those numbers aren't too shabby for a number 6-7 defenseman. I wouldn't call him great, but I would say that he is doing the job that is expected of him. -
Thomas Vanek, Chris Kunitz, and RJ Umberger They played at college rivals and I still can't get over it.

ha ha ..... mute!

Especially with all of the room that has been created by Stuart on LTIR. It wouldn't break my heart to see Sammy leave, but I have to say, this is an Eklund rumor. He has already shown us why his logic is flawed.

Move a mid-teir player for an RFA. Qualify him and hope that he signs an offer sheet. If that player is a goalie, maybe it would work, but it is a lot of risk.
