Did the Wings screw this up or is it too early to tell?
LIDDYGIBBY5 replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I didn't realize this was the official Kyle Quincy crystal ball discussion. I don't remember saying that I would stone cold lock anything. If what I say isn't enough of "putting it on the line" for you, then ignore all of my posts. s*** or get off the pot? You talk like there is a bet or something. I stand by what I said, but I wouldn't be surprised. -

I didn't say my projection, I just said I wouldn't be surprised. If the Kings can stay healthy he absolutly can put up those numbers. Why don't you add that to your sig too. -

I also wouldn't be surprised if his numbers were 11g 30a 41p and -3 -

This is one of those situations that you hope you aren't right about. Unfortunately I was. I yelled and screamed on this board about losing Quincey for nothing. All because this team needed to make sure there was room for a former great who is now only a number 8 defenseman who is trying to come back from a chipped bone in his leg. This pill is hard to swallow. He might not have gotten 20 mins a night here this year, but he would have in the future. Now we will never know what he might have brought to the table. I supported Ken Holland before it was cool to, but this was a bad decision. -
This is my first year with Center Ice and it is so sad to say that you are 100% correct.

Not every single call is black and white. There is some gray to a lot of the calls. There is a human element. To expect perfection in over a thousand games a year is crazy. Unless you go up to the booth for every single call and wait for a slow-motion replay to decide if a play was a penalty or it just appeared to be one at full speed, then there will be some bad calls. What needs to happen is consistency. We wouldn't be having this conversation if a penalty was a penalty no matter who the official is, what period the game is in, or what the score is.

You mean like a salary cap to guarantee that every team turns a profit?

The 4th line in general hasn't been good this year. Maltby has been ok this year, but I really don't think that he has been anything special. A 4th liner is a 4th liner unless they bring something else to the table, (PK) any of them are expendable. Draper brings top 6 PK forward. Kopy brings size. (maybe sometime he will use it) Maltby brings being the most consistent on an un-cohesive 4th line logging very few mins a night. That is why I'm down on him and want to see Mac in his spot.
-
Helm and Abdelkader bring both of those things. My point is that Maltby isn't as fast or as sharp as he used to be. He isn't even in the top five of PK on this team. Why not scratch him? At least Kopecky uses his size from time to time. Maltby is at best a middle of the road defensive forward on this team, a non threat on offense, and not the pest who can draw penalties like he used to. Let him watch from the press box instead of taking 7 mins a game away from someone else.
-
What is it that Maltby brings to this team that someone else can't. Pleases don't say leadership and experience because this team's cup ( no pun intended) is overflowing with both w/o Maltby in the line up.

Come to think of it, I have never seem them both in the same place.

Take it for what it's worth. Quincey's name isn't listed on the Red Wings official website in the team section. I don't know if he was previously listed but now he isn't. Ericsson's name was there if that means anything.
-
We wouldn't have been in position to have to move someone. Other GM's aren't stupid. They aren't going to give up a pick for Quincey if they can get him through waivers for free. Signing Cheli caused the logjam that forced a decision to be made. Detroit could have gone through the whole season carrying 8 D and traded one if they wanted to.

I think that it means that the front office is loyal to a fault. Don't get me wrong, I love that loyalty is so prevalent in this franchise, but there comes a time when it hurts the team. In this situation, it cost draft picks. We all know what these scouts can do with mid to late round picks.
-
If he isn't good enough to make the team I have no problem with trading him. The Wings had no choice but to try to move him because of a logjam created by the signing of Chelios. The problem that I have is that we are going to lose him and get nothing back in return. All because Chelios had to be re-signed to be a #8 defenseman.
-
If you want to keep Chelios for educational value, hire him as a coach!. There is no reason for him to take a spot that forces this franchise to lose a solid young defenseman for nothing.
-
Was signing Chelios worth losing Qunicey for nothing? I'm not a happy camper.
-
He must not have been too impressive. He didn't put put himself into a position to be "too good to not make the team."
-
Give me a reason why I should believe you?
-
Why carry Helm or Leino if they are just going to sit in the press box on most injury-free nights. Let them get time in GR. Both are very good players. But they have lots to gain from playing lots of minutes in Grand Rapids. Don't slow their development just to sit and watch games.
-
It's classless to say that about an opposing player let alone one from a team you claim to be a fan of. I wish that you would leave.

Conference Quarter Edmonton Conference Semi Dallas Conference Final Anahiem Stanley Cup Pittsburgh ( I really want to see Cindy Crosby cry)
-
Should we be sending players down to GR just because they can without clearing waivers? Why not let the best players play and let the others find homes where they may? I think that most players would clear waivers both ways if we sent non exempt players down to make room for younger guys. I say put the best talent on the ice!

I kind of ran a couple of thoughts together. I don't like shots to the head. I think that the equipment makes those hits worse. The NFL has a policy that doesn't allow any shots to the head of someone who is defenseless and I'm not opposed to that in the NHL. I don't think this hit was malicious, dirty, or there was an intent to injure or anything like that.
