The reason The Wings shipped Mike Commodore
Majsheppard replied to Wing Across The Pond's topic in General
I had discussions about this with Malik... The Wings could have signed him to an Amateur try out contract which would have allowed him to play with the Griffins the amount of games they had left and sent a clear signal to sign with us. Getting him under contract for this year is only a big deal if he had interest elsewhere. If he is so closely tied to us, he might wait anyways. He is not allowed to play in the playoffs for us, even if he was ready. I think we are getting Danny, but I don't think the Commodore move was anything more than us doing right by a veteran and giving him a chance to keep his career alive. Players signed post deadline who aren't already property rights of a team cannot play in the playoffs for that team. This too. They would go with Janik, and Excelby before Danny. Remember, at this point there was no injury problems. Plus, check the rules. He could play regular season games for us, but not playoff games. Abs could do it because he was drafted property of the Wings. -
Congrats! don't park on the street!

He is coming soon. He will have his first legitimate chance next year to make the team.

I already have Sproul in the untradeable catagory. He just physically is something needed on the Wings and somethign that is rare enough to be given extra chances in development. So far he doesn't even need the extra chances. I will be keeping an eye on him. With the uncertainty of the future at D, he could be in GR next year.

I would just like to point out, sportscenter only put this as their 7th top play of the evening. Right behind a diving catch in Centerfield in spring baseball... you know the same play you will see on top plays at least three times a night until October.

I heard the opposite. I read that there was a possibility that they would roll the cap back 20-25% in the new CBA along with a 50-50 revenue split which would cause the cap to go up slightly slower and provide relief to stupid teams by rolling back salaries as well. I got excited when I read that earlier thinking it would make Zetter and Franzen stupidly sick steals. I didn't think anything was set in stone though, because there will be fighting over this CBA. Which I hope doesn't really get heated. I do think the last CBA was the best and most fair of any sport ever in history.

A recent tweet reveals that the new Hockey News Future watch has a weak forcast of the Wings farm system. Brian Costello @bcostellothn #RedWings have C+ rating and 4 prospects (Smith, Jarnkrok, Nyquist, Tatar) among top 75 in THN's upcoming #FutureWatch Interesting...

I think we should talk about Joakim. He struck me as defensively as competent as Emmerton or Homer. I wouldn't mind thinking of Emmerton as expendable due to Joakim.
-
Teemu remains the most likely goal scorer in the entire farm system. I just think he is in the donught hole where he isn't new enough to be shocking, and isn't old enough to be dominating and at the top of the prospects list. I think he is WAY better than Sheahan.

The Detroit Griffins are ready to play... Oh wait, aren't the Griffins basically terrible? Ruh-roh. Jk btw no need to flip out.

I agree with your statement to an extent. four points: 1. Every single top prospect in our system does seem to have a lower value than our top guys on the team. I do think this is common for all but the worst teams in the league, and even they rarely have anyone to replace their superstars. Even Columbus couldn't replace Nash with their farm, and they draft pretty high. I would say that you don't necessarily replace the top guys directly, nor do you have to within a certain time frame. 2. While I believe Tatar will be a top line sniper, Nyquvist will be a top six set up guy, Jurco will be a top line dynamic player, and the rest of the prospects can project to very big roles... I might agree with you that there might be no one that can be true superstars. I just also look back and see the projections of Pavel and Hank. Neither was thought to be superstars, and at some points they were thought of as 50/50 type players to make the team eventually by outside scouts. (with Zetter getting a much bigger vote of confidence early on by outsiders) I would even suggest that Zetter, while being a super-star in his own right, is in no way a replacement for Shanahan, Federov, or Yzerman. Yet he brings his own skills to the team and you make do with what you have and he has a lot. I can believe that Jurco, Pulkinen, Tatar, Calle and maybe someone we aren't focused on right now can deliver the same sort of ability. 3. I look at our farm (ONLY AT FORWARDS RIGHT NOW) and see in my mind six sure fire top six forwards. I see at least 12 more that could make the team and three of which I suspect should definately be on the team and maybe even be tweeners that could play top six but would likely fill a role (sort of like Cleary, Abs, Helm, Mursak could in my mind.) This is all without any further draft choices or free agent signings. I just find that there is the possiblity that we will have more talent then we have spots, and while some will underperform (anyone say Hudler???) We still would have many players of quality and maybe a few that step up beyond expectations. 4. People like Nugent-Hopkins were included in these rankings, so I understand a few A+ bluechip prospects would throw off the curve, yet a normal team is only supposed to have one of these guys in their organization and a great supporting cast to be championship caliber. We forget that only a few teams really end up having two elite level players on a team period let alone in the forward stables. I just assume that you don't rest on only those types of players in the system. Bonus point: The Kings have supposedly had the best prospect system in rankings for years now and they haven't capitalized upon it. They can't find goal scoring and the biggest cornerstone of their franchise was a top end pick that went straight to the NHL. So we can take it all with a grain of salt.

I don't get the ratings at all, I just read the flyers got a b- with no prospects in the top 75? It just stands to reason something is wrong with their concept.

Grabovski has just signed a 5 year 5.5 a year deal with Toronto. I think this might be what Filpula will ask for now. Whoops forgot to finish the title, could a moderator add the bit about the extension? Sorry, and thanks.

Both LA and SJ would make it in as of 3/7 instead of Winnipeg and Chicago, and Chicago would have right to be mad, losing a spot despite having 5 more points than both teams.
-
I find it more interesting that as of right now... six teams in our proposed division would be in the playoffs this year, and only four of them could be in next year. Two teams theoretically would be massively screwed. (Winnipeg and Chicago as of 3/7)

I love what he said about not thinking this would happen in Detroit, but would never wear a Wings jersey in Chicago. This is my sentiment on it: With all the times you can hear 20k worth of people yelling Detroit sucks at their arena you just know there is some sort of ill will. 20k worth of people screaming something stupid like that means likely a small percentage of drunkards will attack someone. I am not at all surprised that an escalation has occurred. I am not justifying it or making excuses. I have never felt the need to berate a team or a city because of a sporting event. I hate when Chicago fans just chant something dumb like that, and I generally welcome 98% of all fans into our building and only get upset when they act a fool. Assuming this kid didn't act dumb, which there is no indication he did. I would put everything on the attackers and it might be because of any number of run ins with Chicago fans in the past or ill will combined with booze. Again, there is nothing to justify it. I just wish everyone in all cities would just confine all the emotions of the game to the game itself. If you need to blow off steam, come to a message board and collect -1's.

The Kronner hit seems to just scream, put me in this montage of hits that were clean of intent.

link.

It wouldn't be a replacement of anyone but Pearce.
-
I am surprised no one has brought up the fact that we could Garth Snow the Bruins here. If Howard's injury is any sort of severe we could steal him right now off of waivers. I don't know if I would want that, considering how much it pissed me off when the islanders did it.
-
I remember the Malik updates. I mean, he seems like he is embedded in the organization... but I don't think he would be much more than Excelby replacement. And oh, working link.

Ummmm, Ouelette is having an amazing season and might be the best Defenseman in the system after Smith. Sproul is playing well, and Almqvist likely will be a third line paring guy... If the Wings can swing Suter, or Weber the following year... the blueline should be pretty well packed but thin requiring some Commodore like signings. I wouldn't say they are nothing to write home about.

Hockey parent uses laser pointer to "blind" opposing goalie
Majsheppard replied to Gizmo's topic in General
Agreed, and I am surprised this doesn't happen more often. I hate people. -
Exactly the same situation as the Smith suspension. If you are going to protect them... okay, but the hitter shouldn't be blamed when you put your head out there to get hit. Just saying, Smith got the book thrown at him...

Such a shame, especially when tonight was such a great play by play by Ken Daniels in his 1000 game. It literally tears me up to think about how great of a guy he is, and how lucky we are to have him. Best game I have seen in at least two years. All around.
